mtext in trellis-loop & colorkey
Hello, I would like to create a sequence of plots (using a for loop). I read in the FAQ that print() has to be used in order to obtain any output. This works perfectly fine as long as I only consider one function call in the loop, but I would like to add mtext() to the each plot in the loop. Unfortunately, this did not work. Any suggestions? As you can see from the provided example,

Alignment and Labeling of a color key in a xyplot?
Happy New Year to all R users! I have two short questions concerning a xyplot with a color key: 1) How do I properly place (align) the color key beside the xyplot? As you can see from the code listed below, the placement of the color key is not correct. I would like the upper and lower end point of the color key to be perfectly aligned with the upper and lower line of the xyplot. Adjusting

how to print a colored plot in black/white?
Dear expeRts, shouldn't this... x <- 1:10 myplot <- xyplot(x~x,col="red") trellis.device(postscript,color=FALSE,file="plot.ps") print(myplot) dev.off() ... give a black/white plot? Cheers, Marius

How to put text outside an xyplot?
Dear R-users, I have a plot created with the code below. I tried to put some text to the right of the color key. I worked with grid.text and also viewport(), but couldn't achieve this. I know this should be simple, but I just couldn't figure out how to do it. How does this work? Cheers, Marius library(lattice) library(grid) myvec=1:10 data=data.frame(x=myvec,y=myvec)

lattice: how to "center" a subtitle?
Dear expeRts, I recently asked for a real "centered" title (see, e.g., http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/e13/help/11/01/0135.html). A nice solution (from Deepayan Sarkar) is to use "xlab.top" instead of "main": library(lattice) trellis.device("pdf") print(xyplot(0 ~ 0, xlab.top = "This title is now 'centered' for the human's eye",

How to suppress plotting for "xyplot(zoo(x))"?
Hi, I found the thread http://r.789695.n4.nabble.com/Matrix-as-input-to-xyplot-lattice-proper-extended-formula-syntax-td896948.html I used Gabor's approach and then tried to assign the plot to a variable (see below). But a Quartz device is opened... why? I don't want to have anything plot/printed, I just would like to store the plot object. Is there something like "plot =

lattice splom: how to adjust space between tick marks and tick labels?
Dear expeRts, how can I decrease the space between the tick marks and the corresponding labels in an splom? See here: library(lattice) U <- matrix(runif(4000), ncol = 8) splom(U, axis.text.cex = 0.2) # => space between the [small] tick labels and tick marks is/seems to be too large I checked ?panel.pairs but could not find an option for that. setup trellis.device to color=F inside the xyplot function
Hi, it is possible to setup trellis.device(color=F) inside teh function xyplot? I try to use > xyplot(ocup~tempo| nitro+estacao,col="white",ylim=c(0,0.7),par.settings=list(color=F)) But dont work, the only way that work for me is call the function > trellis.device(color=F) before the xyplot, but in this way it open a new device for each run. I like that is use the same

Set panel background color in a multi-group trellis plot
Hi everyone, I am trying to change some of the default colors in a multipanel-multigroup lattice graphic, but when I change the panel color to white, the only group that is plotted is the last one, as panel.fill overwrites all the previous ones. Is there any way to set the panel background color for the first panel to a color and keep the rest transparent? My code looks like this: #first set

Color on trellis device
Hi, I try to make a xyplot withou colors. I try: pdf(file="test.pdf") trellis.device(color=F) Depth <- equal.count(quakes$depth, number=8, overlap=.1) xyplot(lat ~ long | Depth, data = quakes) dev.off() the graphic is showed without colors in a X device but it dont work saving directly on pdf device. How I made to put color off in trellis device? Thanks Ronaldo -- 2ยช lei - Na

lattice + plotmath: how to get a variable in bold face?
Dear all, How can I get a bold "1000" in the title? I would like to use a variable (as opposed to putting in "1000" directly). library(lattice) N <- 1000 xyplot(0~0, xlab.top=list(label=as.expression(bquote(bold("foo" ~ .(N) ~ "bar"))), font=2, cex=1.2)) ## => "font=2" is ignored (of course) Cheers, Marius

trellis.focus with postscript device
Hello. First: R 2.3.1 on Windows XP. I am trying to add information (sample size) to the Trellis strips which I am successful using the trellis.focus function with the default Windows device. However, I typically use the postscript device as I use LaTeX and \includegraphic for incorporating graphs into stat reviews. Here's some example code (apologies for the lack of creativity and

Trellis settings get lost when printing to pdf
Hi all, I've got some problems when changing the trellis settings for the lattice plots. The plots look exactly as I want them to when calling show.settings() as well as when plotting them in the graphical window. But when printing to a pdf file, none of the settings are used!? Does anyone know what might have happened? Because the when changing the trellis settings, these should remain in

How to write a new "top-level" Trellis/lattice function?
Hello, I am trying to write a new "top level" Trellis/lattice function. By "top-level", I mean a function like 'xyplot', 'histogram', 'bwplot', etc. These functions all call 'trellis.skeleton', which I am unable to call; an attempt to invoke the function that does so yields the error message: ----- Error in do.call("trellis.skeleton",

lattice: how to "center" a title?
Dear expeRts, As you can see from this example... trellis.device("pdf", width = 5, height = 5) print(xyplot(0 ~ 0, main = "This title is not 'centered' for the human's eye", scales = list(alternating = c(1,1), tck = c(1,0)))) dev.off() ... the title does not seem to be "centered" for the human's eye [although it is centered when the plot (width)

lattice, trellis.device, dev.off() within a condition (seems t o be a bug)
Hi, I have a strange issue under W2K; consider these two code extracts: 1) if(condition a){ trellis.device(png,filename = filename_a,... xyplot(... dev.off() } 2) if(condition a){ trellis.device(png,filename = filename_a,... xyplot(... } dev.off() In 1), The png file is generated, but empty; in 2), where I've taken the dev.off clause out of the condition block, my plot is

splom, plotmath: how to add three lines of information with alignment?
Dear expeRts, I would like to create a scatter plot matrix with splom(). The lower panel should contain some additional information about the samples shown in the upper panel plot, see the splom() call below. Now two questions came up: (1) The lower panels show "tau" and "alpha" on top of each other. How can I plot *three* expressions on top of each other? I tried several

trellis graphics in loops
I have this awkward problem with trellis (lattice). I am trying to generate some plots through loops but the .eps file is empty. When I generate them in a list and print them outside the loop all is fine. this is an example below:( nothing shows up in foo.eps, but all show up in foo1.eps) R vesion 2.0.1, lattice version 0.10-16, on a debian 2.6.8-1 kernel. X <- data.frame(x=rnorm(10000),

trellis.par.set and grid : how to set by default that I want a grid on my graphes ?
Hello all, I want to draw a grid behind my graphes, using lattice package. I manage to do it with instructions like this one : xyplot(Sepal.Length + Sepal.Width ~ Petal.Length , data = iris, allow.multiple = TRUE, scales = "same",type="l", panel = function(...) { panel.grid(h=-1, v= -1) ; panel.superpose(...) } ) I was wondering if there were a way to do it

contour lines for levelplot
Hi, I would like to add contour lines to a (trellis/lattice-) levelplot. Sure, there is the "contour=TRUE" argument, but this uses "cuts=..." (which is usually chosen very high for my plots. I guess cuts=99 is the best you can do (?)) for plotting the contour lines. Furthermore, I do not like the numbering of the contour lines this way. Therefore, I tried to add a
