procmail as a content_filter with dovecot
I am using Mac OS X Server. OS X Server uses postfix with dovecot set as mail_transport.
I want to add procmail to the mix. I cannot use the (typical)
mailbox_command = procmail -a "$EXTENSION"
because
mailbox_transport = dovecot
overrides any mailbox_command parameter and it is NOT Possible to change, remove, or otherwise vary the
mailbox_transport on OS X server.

writing an MDA, help me avoid corrupted indexes
Hello.
First, I want to thank those responsible for Dovecot IMAP as it was a
real treat to implement in comparison to my mostly-failed attempts with
Cyrus. The passwd-file authentication was exactly what I needed as I
really didn't want to have to deal with PAM or LDAP but where I am
setting up a server with virtual accounts.
I'm using Postfix as an MTA, and it quite handily passes

Replication for Pigeonhole ManageSieve
Hello,
I currently have one machine running postfix SMTP server as MTA along
with dovecot IMAP server for email. Although it only supports a handful
of users, email service is important to us all; so I'm looking to make
this a more fault-tolerant / highly-available system.
To that end, I'm planning on configuring postfix to use
deliver/dovecot-lda as my MDA (using procmail at the

mail without mta
Dear list!
I'd like to know if some-
one has experience with system
running no mta (aka sendmail).
I have single comp, not server,
not lan. Yes! Sendmail is nice,
but it is too big for simple
tasks I have for it.
My intention is to use apps
small as possible. This letter
gone from mutt directly to
ssmtp, that processed it to my
isp. (Setting option for

dovecot, spamassasin and lmtp
Hi,
Ok, so I got rid of my procmail in favor of dovecot lmtp as my MDA.
However, I lost the ability to tag the emails as SPAM or not. Before, this
is done by procmail. Filtering is done by the Evolution client.
Is there a way to do something similar now? I still want my filtering to be
done by the Evolution. So I need something similar what procmail is doing
i.e. altering the email header and

On RHEL5, dovecot 1.0.7, I have set up sendmail to use `deliver` for
my local mda. It keeps giving me this error for the root user though:

Planning a dovecot deployment: issues and questions
Hi folks,
I am currently evaluating Dovecot for deployment to ~200 software
engineers (so, heavy email users); I'm hoping this list could provide
wisdom about how best to do the configuration, evaluation and deployment,
and what testing folks have done to determine whether dovecot is right for
their site. Below I've listed the diffs between the dovecot-example.conf
and our config.

newbie question
Hello all,
just managed to install dovecot as imap server on a Suse Linux box. Now running fine with mbox format. A question regarding maildir or mbox. The MDA (in my case sendmail, Mlocal = procmail) stores mbox format. Do have to modify the local mailer to store maildir format or does dovecot convert automatically from mbox when I tell dovecot to use maildir format?
Thanks, for any hint.

No 'from' in messages
Hi all,
Over the weekend, we've migrated our old mail environment to Sendmail and
Dovecot:
- Dovecot 1.0 stable
- Sendmail 8.13.3
- Procmail 3.22
Procmail is MDA for Sendmail and it delivers mail to Maildir boxes. Email
clients
like Eudora, Thunderbird, Outlook and mutt are working OK. When using Outlook
Express and Pine however, in the message list the 'from' or

pop3_lock_session question
Hello, I'm preparing to convert from qpopper + UW-IMAP to dovecot.
So far testing has gone very well. One problem we haven't figured
out is that long-running POP sessions keep the mailbox locked, so that
the MDA times out while trying to deliver. We're using "maildrop" as
our MDA if that matters.
We don't see this issue for dovecot IMAP sessions. During long-running

Maildir, procmail, and locks
I'm using procmail as the local delivery agent for Maildir style
mailboxes. I discovered that I was able to send mail to other users but
was unable to send mail to myself. Examples from verbose procmail log:

Procmail + Dovecot
I have been trying to set up procmail but I am running into some issues
with using deliver. I am running Debian Etch with Dovecot 1.1.8 compiled
from the Debian Experimental source package.

SHELL="/bin/bash"
SENDMAIL="/usr/sbin/sendmail -oi -t"
