R-alpha: Logarithmic scales
Here are another three problems with logarithmic scales:
1) segments() does not work with logarithmic scales. I suggest to change
lines 962-973 in "plot.c":
for (i = 0; i < n; i++) {
if (FINITE(xt(x0[i%nx0])) && FINITE(yt(y0[i%ny0]))
&& FINITE(xt(x1[i%nx1])) && FINITE(yt(y1[i%ny1]))) {
GP->col = INTEGER(col)[i % ncol];

colored rasterImage()
Hello,
I have been exploring the possibility to transition some code that
currently uses image() to use the new rasterImage(). To date, I
haven't been able to specify a color look-up strategy that works. For
example...
nx <- 100
ny <- 100
m <- matrix(data = rep(seq(0,1, length = nx), ny), ncol = nx, nrow =
ny, byrow = TRUE)
plot(1:nx, 1:ny, type = "n")

strange interaction between rasterImage and Grid graphics
Dear all,
This may be specific to Mac, I haven't had a chance to test another
platform. Consider this,
plot(1,1,t="n")
rasterImage(matrix(1),1,1,1,1)
library(grid)
grid.rect(gp=gpar(fill="grey"))
The grid.rect covers the full device window as expected. However, when
I resize the window ever so slightly (interactive device) the rectGrob
is suddenly clipped to the previous

Using rasterImage on a CairoWin device prevents adding further elements to device?
I was pointed to the Cairo package for plotting PNG images on a
device. I've been playing around with it, but found that after I use
the rasterImage function, I can't add anything any more to the device,
eg :
img <- readPNG(system.file("img", "Rlogo.png", package="png"))
r = as.raster(img[,,1:3])
r[img[,,4] == 0] = "white"

using rasterImage within image
Has anyone yet tried incorporating rasterImage into the base image()
function? It seems to make a *huge* difference, with
a very small number of added/changed lines of code. (Of course I have
barely tested it at all.)
Is there any reason this *shouldn't* go into the next release?

hang-up with log="x" and segments (PR#1030)
I experienced the following problem with R 1.3.0 which is probably a
bug. The program hangs-up if 1.) a coordinate of segments is outside the
ploting region and 2.) the option log="x" is used.

colorbar legend for image()
Hi,
are there any plans to add a colorbar legend to image()?
Or such a possibility already implemented which I just haven't
discovered yet. Anyway, I will be willing to spent some time on the
implementation if there isn't anyone working on that already.
Thanks
Thomas

draw a 5cm x 3cm rectangle
Hi I want to draw sth in a pdf file with a predefined defined size.
Say a 5cm x 3cm rectangle (a ruler):
pdf("rect.pdf", paper="a4")
plot(c(1,5,5,1,1),c(1,1,3,3,1),asp=1,axes="n")
dev.off()
but how do I fix that one unit is 1cm?
Thanks

Character height & width in user co-ordinates
Is there an equivalent to the S-PLUS par()$cxy in R?
Also, is it possible to get notice taken of some
equivalent of \n in R when using text()?
For what it is worth I am using RW-0.64.1.

barplot: border color when stacked
Dear R-users,
I am using R version 2.10.1 under windows.
In a barplot, I want to mark one of the bars with a special border color.
For example:
barplot(c(3, 7, 11), border = c(NA, "red", NA))
But how to do this when the bars are stacked?
for example:
barplot(matrix(1:6, ncol=3)) # border of second bar (i.e. the one with total height = 7) should be red again, I try:
barplot(matrix(1:6,

stats::line() does not produce correct Tukey line when n mod 6 is 2 or 3
Seriously, if a method gives a wrong result, it's wrong. line() does NOT
implement the algorithm of Tukey, even not after the patch. We're not
discussing Excel here, are we?
The method of Tukey is rather clear, and it is NOT using the default
quantile definition from the quantile function. Actually, it doesn't even
use quantiles to define the groups. It just says that the groups

slavishly, but it would be nice at least to

Incorrect positioning of raster images on Windows
I am working on dumping raster data from R into PNG files using
rasterImage(). I am working with a test matrix from the rasterImage()

# From the example for rasterImage(). A 3 pixel by 5 pixel b/w checkerboard.
testImage <- as.raster(0:1, nrow=3, ncol=5)

Hi,
I was hoping someone could help me with this problem. I’m trying to produce
what can be referred to as L’Abbe plots, where a character (my preference
is a circle) is plotted at some specified co-ordinates and the size of the
character is proportional to a weighting variable. I’ve tried this
plot (x, y, type="n")
size <- weight/mean(weight)
for ( i in 1:length(x) ) { points

Add png image outside plot borders
I am trying to add a copyright disclaimer outside the plot borders of
some images I have created. I can use mtext() to add the written
portion, but I would like to have the Creative Commons license image
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Cc.logo.circle.svg) before the
text. I've found that I can plot a .png image inside the plot
boundaries using rasterImage() but I can't figure out how to

What is the threshold for `useRaster` of graphics::image()?
Hi R-help list
What is the threshold for the `useRaster` argument of graphics::image()
to decide whether a grid is "regular" or not (i.e. the usage of
useRaster=T is allowed or not). My
`dev.capabilities("rasterImage")$rasterImage` is "yes".
I could not find this information in the internet. I also could not find
the source code of the graphics::image() function (I

Raster images and saving with original pixel dimensions in tiff, jpeg, or png perferablly.
Hello R-Help,
I want to be able to read in a raster image, plot it with grid.raster
or rasterImage and save the image with one pixel per a pixel element
from my array. Saved preferably in a common image format.
The real goal of my question is to eventually read in images with text
on them, manipulate them with my controlled functions, save them
without changing the image dimensions, and perform

add a color band
Hi all,
I would like to ask your help to add a color band (Ι am not sure regarding the right term, this color band at the right of the plot "describing" values with their corresponding color.
For now I have only this code

plot(test,axes="FALSE")
axis(1,at=c(0,1),labels=c("a","b")) #

readPNG gives warnings and doesn't execute sample code from help files
Dear all,
I noticed in the latest R version (R.2.12.1) that the readPNG gives
following warning when running the example code in the help file (or
when using any other png for that matter) :

No picture is shown, and code I used to be able to run, doesn't run any more.
