SCO & R
I apologize if this has been addressed before;
recently
I read an article in Forbes which discussed how SCO
was going after companies that have been using Linux.
The article made the point that the ideas behind GPL
are under attack precisely because no one is making
sure
that the code being put into the freely avail.

Here's my question: Is R

newbie R question
I'm sorry to bother everyone with a stupid
question but, when I am at an R prompt in Windows,
is there a way to see what packages
you already have installed from the R site so
that you can just do library(name_of_package)
and it will work.
I've looked at help etc but I can't find
a command like this. Maybe there
isn't one which is fine.

need help with renaming a variable
Hello.
I am new to R, so my question/problem might be very basic, but I cannot
figure out how to solve it.
So, I would really appreciate your help.
I would like to rename a variable in a very large file (181GB) called
"2013.xdf" that is saved on my external hard drive.
I tried running the following code to rename variable # 2 in the file and
save this change, which produced some

Wild cards in "shorewall add" command
Hi
I am looking at converting a Linux terminal server box to iptables
using Shorewall 2.0. (At the moment it uses ipchains).
The server currently has scripts which are called as each user logs
in which run a series of "ipchains" commands to set the access
rights for that user (and again to cancel them when the user logs
out). My plan is to replace these scripts with ones that call

dovecot-lda and vpopmail
I'm setting up a new box with Dovecot 1.0 beta1 and vpopmail. Normal
operations works like a charm, i.e. vpopmail virtual can log in
sucessfully using TLS.
However, when trying to test dovecot-lda out of CVS, it is not locating
the user:
> *** Starting dovecot-imapd service...
> dovecot: Info: Dovecot v1.0.beta1 starting up
> dovecot: Info: auth(default): master in: USER 1

Deliverm, vpopmail, and valias
I'm in the final stages of testing my e-mail server to come and I seem
to have hit a roadblock.
One option of current vpopmail is to store all aliases in a valias
table, that looks like this:
+-------------+----------+------+-----+---------+-------+
| Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra |
+-------------+----------+------+-----+---------+-------+
| alias | char(32) |

xfig device - depth
Hi,
I hope this is the right list for my posting, since I've never posted
to any R list before.
I'm quite extensively using the xfig graphics device and as far as I
figured out this
device writes all the objects into xfig layer 100 (based on what I saw
in the devPS.c
file -if this is the file to output to xfig format - depth 100 is
hardcoded). Are the any
plans to implement xfig layer

Why using hist when setting the parameter probability=TRUE does not create probability plot?
Hi All,
When carrying out hist(samples,breaks=50,probability=TRUE), the column
values are considerably greater than 1, which seams very unreasonable. The
plot is attached.
I think the column value of the hist plot should correspond to
x$counts/sum(x$counts)
(x=hist(samples,breaks=50,probability=TRUE)). The size of data is a
little bit larger, causing failure of uploading. If you need the

Lost messages with Mozilla and dovecot 0.99.x
I have just moved our corporate e-mail over to qmail/dovecot and am very
happy with the performance. However, I have had two reports of messages
going missing which may or may not be directly related to Dovecot.
I was able to observe this in action this morning:
1) I got the user out of their e-mail client (Mozilla 1.7.2) and forced
an email to be delivered. It showed up in Maildir/new.

installing 2.14.0 on fedora
Hi: Does anyone know of instructions for installing R.2.14.0 on
fedora-linux ( I'm using f14 ) using only the tar.gz file. I don't think
it's available at the fedora repo so I can't use yum. I've look at the
R-installation instructions but I didn't get very far with that. Even just
an internet link is appreciated. Thanks.

PhD Quantitative Analyst Roles
We are currently in the process of developing and expanding our quantitative
analytics function. Led by commitment from the Head of Global Markets and
senior management across all asset classes, the function was centralised in
June with the view that the quantitative analytics platform should be
omnipresent and part of the decision making process throughout the bank. As
a result the focus and

Blurring behind windows
It is a common request and I think it can
be useful. The problem with beryl blur is
that it is way too slow.
I haven't poured through all of their code
but I strongly suspect that there is some
intensive code to work out where to blur.
I would be happy with just a basic blur under
transparent windows.
Is there anything that can be done in the core
to make effects underneath transparent

simulating stable VAR process
Hello all,
I looking at package dse or vars or mAr
I know how to simulate a VAR(p) process, my problem is that most of those
processes are unstable (not weakly stationary).
Do anybody know how to generate a random VAR (or VARMA even better) process
that is weakly stationary?
Thanks

Learning advanced R
See Hadley's advanced R along Thomas Mailund's books. I haven't gone
through them carefully but they both
seem (from what I've looked at ) to be the best ones for that. Mentions of
others are appreciated.

Arimax with intervention dummy and multiple covariates
Hi
I'm trying to measure the effect of a policy intervention (Box and Tiao, 1975).
This query has to do with the coding of the model rather than with the particulars of my dataset, so I'm not providing the actual dataset (or a simulated one) in this case, apart from some general description.
The time series are of length n=34 (annual observations between 1977 and 2010). The policy

state of blur plugin
I forgot to give everyone an update on this.
The blur plugin is in a reasonable state now. It requires an OpenGL
implementation with an accelerated CopyTexSubImage2D path for usable
performance and that's likely not going to change sometime soon. One
major performance improvement can still be made, which allow us to avoid
the CopyTexSubImage2D path whenever the area behind a blurred region is
