Newbie help with Sweave
I think I've gotten my Emacs/Sweave/R system set up correctly, thanks to
Vincent and Jim, but I haven't been successful getting my first document
produced. I'm trying to use one of Friedrich Leisch's examples,
http://www.ci.tuwien.ac.at/~leisch/Sweave/example-1.Snw. I cut and
pasted the text into a document sweaveexample.Rnw in Emacs. It seemed to
be processed successfully with R:

Sweave and sideways
Hi there,
I'm rying to 'turn' an Schunk in an .Rnw file(Xemacs-21.4.13, ESS-5.2.8,
R-2.1, miktex-2.4.1705).
Has anyone got the isorot package to work with Sweave?

how to use \Sexpr{} with sweave
I'm trying to learn Sweave. So far things are going well with the chunks of code identified by << >>=
But I'm having trouble with the in-line text use of \Sexpr.
Here is a short example .Rnw file:
\documentclass[12pt]{article}
\usepackage[margin=1.25in]{geometry}
\usepackage{graphicx}
\usepackage{Sweave}
\begin{document}
<<test>>=
pnorm(1)

arrays of arrays
Hi All,
I want to have an array/ matrix that looks this
x<- 0 0 1 1
1 3 5
4 4
7 -1 8 9 10 6
I hope this makes sense. So basically if I want x[1,3] it will access 0 and
similarly x[4,2], -1.
Thanks in advance,
Sachin

comma separated format
Hi All,
I'm trying to create labels to plot such that it doesn't show up as
scientific notation. So for example how do I get R to show 1e06 as
$1,000,000.
I was wondering if there was a single function which allows you to do that,
the same way that as.Date() allows you to show in date format on a plot.
Thanks,
Sachin

switching only axis off in plot
Hi R,
In the following code my x-axis is formatted in month format. Which Im
happy with. The y-axis is what I want to re-format with something else. My
question is, is it possible just to switch off the xaxis in plot function
(see below). If not how do you get the months to show up as FEB-YYYY,
MAR-YYYY and so on, so I could fit a label on x-axis.
Thanks,
Sachin

date conversion and plot
Hi All,
I have a date in the format of yymmdd (without any of the backslashes, eg.
100731). How do I convert this into a Rdate and plot it? I don't want the
number of days from 1970's showing up as my date (Its the date I require).
Thanks,
Sachin

parallel for loop
Hi all,
Just following on from a previous thread (for loop). Is there a parallel
'for' loop like matlab (parfor maybe?). I know there was a Nvidia GPU
version for blas somewhere. But is there a CPU or a GPU version of the for
loop?
Thanks,
Sachin

trouble with plotting data- possible bug?
Hi all,
When I write out some values and then use 'plot' and 'lines' respectively I
can get R to plot me two lines. However when I get the data from a csv file
and run it I only manage to get one line running (whichever was invoked
first). The sample files are attached below and I've reproduced the code
below with the suspicious part marked as #??? (not even sure if thats

plot options including formatting axes
Hi All,
Currently my plot shows the y-axis in scientific notation (1e07 and so on).
I want to be able to display this in dollars such that it shows $10,000,000
(including the commas). How do I do this.
Also with the xlabel and ylabel. I've specified: 'title('Cash vs
Time',xlab='Period',ylab=''); Im hoping that this will also not display
anything on the y-axis.

drilling down data on charts
Hey all,
Suppose a=b^2 for starters. I want to be able to create a graph that
displays a initially and if i was to click on 'a' to show 'b' on the chart
itself. Does anyone know if this is possible in R?
Also as an extension (not necessary as yet) to output the above into a
'html' file.
Thanks,
Sachin

cannot see the y-labels (getting cut-off)
Hi All,
When I run the following code, I cannot see the entire number. As opposed
to seeing 1,000,000,000. I only see 000,000 because the rest is cut off.
The cex option doesn't seem to be doing anything at all.
y<-seq(1e09,5e09,1e09);
plot(1:5,y,ylab='',yaxt='n' );
axis(2, at=y, labels=formatC(y,big.mark=",",format="fg"),las=2,cex=0.1);
Any thoughts?

Running R on a server
Hi All,
I am trying to run R scripts on a server rather than my own machine. The
biggest reason being that the data can be 3GB+; more than my RAM can
handle. Anyway is there a way to do this.
I am trying to find a SAS alternative.
In SAS you can do (keyword) rsubmit; and get things running remotely on a
server. Is there something similar on R. Couldn't find a comprehensive
answer online.

Questions about sweave...
Evening all:
I'm taking a little time to experiment with R, Sweave, and Miktex/LaTex but
I've run up against some problems and -well- I hope that there are some on
the list who might have some suggestions. This will be kind of wordy as I
will include the complete files involved as I'm just not sure what I'm
looking for. Apologies at the outset.

Sweave and X11 on OSX 10.3
Hi -
I'm running R 1.8.1 (compiled from source) on Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther). I
find that, if Apple's X11 application is not running, Sweave gives an
error when it wants to create a pdf or eps figure. E.g., in the package's
own example-1.Snw file a boxplot is created at chunk 2:
<<fig=TRUE,echo=FALSE>>=
boxplot(Ozone ~ Month, data = airquality)

formula parsing, using parts ...
I am writing a little abstraction for a series of tests. For example,
I am running an anova and kruskal.test on a one-factor model. That
isn't a particular problem, I have an interface like:
my.function <- function(model,data) {
print(deparse(substitute(data)))
a <- anova(lm(formula,data))
print(a)
if(a$"Pr(>F)"[1] < 0.05) {
pairwise.t.test(???)
}

Sweave problem with greek text
Dear Sweave and R aficionados,
I am using R and Latex for many years, writing texts in greek. I tried
to combine them with Sweave, but without any success.
Could you provide me with any help?
Usually my LaTeX files are like this iso-8859-7 encoded .tex file:

which happily produces

Sweave PDF files show plot symbols as "q"
I'm guessing this is a FAQ but I can't find it and that it is probably
not exclusive R related but relevant so I thought I'd ask:
When I view the PDF output from Sweave (e.g. Example 1 from the author's
web site at [1]) on a Linux system using the standard PDF viewer [2],
the circles for the outliers in the plot [boxplot(Ozone ~ Month, data =
airquality)] show up as the letter

LaTeX output for summary.lm object - while displaying the information outside the table
This seemed to me to be basic, but I can't seem to find a solution online,
so I wondered what I might be missing.
I wish to include the output of an lm summary object inside an Sweave
(.Rnw) document. I can either output the summary.lm as is, or use the
xtable/Hmisc packages (through xtable or latex commands).
Is there something like xtable that also gives the summary information
which is
