How do tzdata changes get made?
Hi All, I guess this is a political question rather than technical. New Zealand is probably extending daylight saving time with a bill currently being drafted. It will (most likely) change the end data of dst by pushing it out ~3 weeks. My question; AFAIK CentOS/whitebox/et. al. should not make any changes to tzdata - it is an upstream issue, but how do we ensure that 'upstream'

Replay mail to test MTA + filtering
Hi All, My kit : Centos4.4 + Postfix + SA + ClamAV (not that its relevant) General question - Does anyone know of a product which can take a folder / mbox of mail (spam, ham, virus infected stuff, scam mail and hoaxes) and "replay" it back against a test server to determine the servers ability to filter? I have looked at some low level (IP) packet replayers, but i cant really find

hostname setting
Can someone with far more knowledge than me help here? I have a co-worker with a question; " Where should i set the server's hostname? There seems to be multiple places and i don't understand the differences. 1. # hostname mailserver.mydomain.com 2. # echo "127.0.0.1 mailserver mailserver.mydomain.com">>/etc/hosts 3. # vi /etc/sysconfig/network, add

wget not in minimal install
Hi All, I used to always do a minimal install with v4.4, and wget (and other tools) was included. With v5 if i untick *everything* in the installation (incl "base") so that i can install from 1 cd, wget is not included. I couldn't make sense of any of the xml or xml.gz files on the installation cd. (/dev/cdrom/repodata/*), although they do mention wget as 'default'

HP (compaq) RAID - How to get alerts?
Hi All, Background: I have HP RAID setups (Smart Array 5, shows up as /dev/cciss/c0d0) on my DL380s, and they run great with CentOS. I have had a drive failure (HDD lights up amber), so I pulled the HDD, replaced it and the RAID controller rebuilt the array in a jiffy - no probs. My question: I cant find anything in the logs to alert me that a drive failed - this makes sense since the RAID

pptp, ipsec and vpn
Hi All, This is a general VPN question; PPTP VPNs seem to be very easy to set up with CentOS as the VPN server and the built-in windose client, but how do list members feel about the security vunerabilities reported with the MS implementation? Specifically the 6 problems reported here : http://www.schneier.com/pptp-faq.html or maybe im being paranoid? Would any of you roll this solution out

Sorting through all of the discussions would be difficult, as the ideas have morphed over the years. Also, some of the discussion took place offline at various LLVM dev conferences. I can summarize the main points here: The biggest improvement in GC would be to allow SSA values to be declared as GC roots - currently only alloca values, that is, values in memory, can be GC roots. This means that

rpmforge repo for centos5
Hi, I just downloaded and installed the rpmforge-release rpm file for centos5. Ftp isn't working here, so it went http, but the http mirrors are giving me error 11, connections refused. Is this a problem with the particular mirror? Also, how do i query a specific repo to find out what packages it contains? Thanks. Dave.

want to ban XP Home Edition
Just for sake of curiosity: Is that possible ? I'd like to support XP Pro *only* and to ban any other Windows OS (no 2000 server or 2003 server machines in here).
