Math characters in column heading using latex() in Hmisc
Hi Everybody I want to print a latex table containing math characters in the column heading These are the formulae I want to use as column headings. It prints OK from TeX $\sum_{i}\sum_{j}C_{P,i,j,y}\times\mathit{FC}_{i}$, $XU_{alt,y}$, $n$, $\bar{C}_{P,y}$ My plan was to create a character vector with these and later rbind the values to them. When I create the vector like:

Can't install Sweave
Hi there! I tried to work with Sweave, assuming that it is part of the standard installation - which it was not for my system. Trying to install, it gives me this error message: > install.packages("Sweave") Warning message: In getDependencies(pkgs, dependencies, available, lib) : package ?Sweave? is not available My system data are: > sessionInfo()

Replacing several rows of a matrix at once
Hello Folks. This must be a silly question with a (not) obvious (to me) answer. Consider this: tmp <- matrix(1:200, nrow = 20) vec <- 300:309 tmp[9,] <- vec # replacing one row works fine p <- c(3, 11, 17) tmp[p,] <- vec # replacing multple rows pastes the values down a column and recycles vec. What I want to do is replace multiple rows simultaneously at once. I suppose I can

\Sweaveopts error
I have a file 4lmetc.Rnw, intended for inclusion in a LaTeX document, that starts: \SweaveOpts{engine=R, keep.source=TRUE} \SweaveOpts{eps=FALSE, prefix.string=snArt/4lmetc} The attempt to process the file through Sweave generates the error: > Sweave("4lmetc") Writing to file 4lmetc.tex Processing code chunks ... 1 : keep.source term verbatim Error in file(srcfile$filename, open =

object not found whilst loading namespace
I've been updating a package and, when installing a local devel version, I get an error "object 'confusionMatrix' not found whilst loading namespace". Looking around online, it appears that this might be related to loading a specific RData file, but it doesn't seem to be the case AFAICT. I've installed the devel version in the last week without issues and the

qplot in ggplot2 not working any longer - (what did I do?)
This is the first time that I have tried to update packages with a tinkered around with .Rprofile. I start R with R --vanilla and it does not load my .Rprofile, but when I issue the command update.packages() R downloads the packages as expected, but then seems to load .Rprofile before compiling the packages sources. What am I doing wrong? kindest regards, Stephen Sefick see- Session info

I'm plotting matrix elements: Z [i, i], and I'd like to put that as label.

Grid newbie: aligning & scaling viewports
Oh Knowledgeable Ones: I'm working on a project using grid graphics (for the first time). A toy example is given below, run it simply with >foobar() I am wondering why the pink dot and concentric circles are not centered on the 3-color axis system. Further, I feel like the concentric circles don't have the intended radius - if my math is right, the outmost circle should touch the

R 2.12.0 and JGR
Since upgrading to 2.12.0, I'm having trouble getting the JGR to start under Windows 7, but I'm not quite sure what's happening. When I try to run the JGR.exe stub, the dialog says can't find Java R interface jri.dll. As nearly as I can tell from a Google search this is to be a part of the rJava package which seems to load fine with the library(rJava) command from the Windows R

Error in calcCurveGrob(x, x$debug) : End points must not be identical
Hi All... I haven?t found mention of this error anywhere. I'm trying to draw spline curves using grid graphics. Most of the time, I have no problems, but I have some data sets that give the error in the subject line. I'm not sure which end points are identical, but the end points passed to the function are definitely not identical. Any assistance appreciated! Bryan tst <-

Debugging segfault in foreach
Hi, I'm using R-2.12 on a linux 64bit machine. When I run a chunk of code inside a foreach() %do% { ...} or %dopar% {...} (with doMC backend) I keep getting a segfault. Running the *same* code within lapply(something, function(x) ... ) doesn't result in any segfaults. I'll paste the output below, but I'm not sure it would be helpful. I'm more curious how to go about smoking

Passing data to aov
Hello Again Gurus and Lurkers: I?m trying to build a very user-friendly function which does aov without having the user type in a formula (which would be tedious in this case). The idea is to take the response from a PCA score matrix, and the factors from a list. A simple example is the function given below, along with test data and a sample call to the function. I'm certainly having

Gathering different data types for aov etc
Hello List Folks. I?m trying to do manova using a function which assembles the response (LHS) and factors (RHS) from different sources. When I do so, the model routines complain that I'm passing a list for the RHS when I don't think I am. Here's a toy example: r <- matrix(rnorm(30), ncol = 3) # toy data td <- list(d = rnorm(10), f1 = sample(c("A",

Dotchart showing mean and median by group
Given this example mean.values<-colMeans(VADeaths) mean.values<-apply(VADeaths, 2, mean) median.values<-apply(VADeaths, 2, median) dotchart(VADeaths, gdata=mean.values) dotchart(VADeaths, gdata=median.values) is it possible to ?combine? a single dotchart showing both the mean and the median for each single group (with different plotting symbols)? ?is it that possible with the use of

dotplot: character size of labels
Dear R users, using dotplot (R1.2.0, WinNT4.0), I am trying to change the character size of the labels of the points: > # example > data(VADeaths) > dotplot(VADeaths, main = "Death Rates in Virginia - 1940") > # I'd like to have smaller character size of the labels (for age and population groups) > ?dotplot > # for argument "cex", this says:

how to create data.frames from vectors with duplicates
Hi R users, suppose I have two vectors, > x=c(1,2,3,4,5) > y=c('a','b','c','a','c') How can I get a data.frame like this? > xy count a 5 b 2 c 8 I know a few ways to fulfill the task. However, I have a huge number of this kind calculations, so I'd like an efficient solution. Thanks -- Best, Zhenjiang

Plot window - save as Postscript question
R 2.4.0 for Windows The following plot appears as a squared window (as all r-plots) Not all subtitles are visible, but all subtitle will appear, when changing the aspect ratio of the plot window with the mouse to a wide format. But does not work when using the save as postscript menu item from the plot window. is there any solution for that? opar <- par(mfrow = c(2,2), oma = c(0, 0, 1.1,

Help with STL function to decompose
Hi everyone. I'm having some troubles with STL function to decompose some data. My issue is that I have monthly data from September 2005 up to August 2010 i. e. 60 observations. I define it in the following way: *u<-read.csv("C:/CELEBREX.csv",header = TRUE) u.ts<-ts(u, start=c(2005,9), frequency=12) * The issue is that when I try to use stl(u.ts, 'per') Then the

Sporadic errors when training models using CARET
Hi. I am trying to construct a svmLinear model using the "caret" package (see code below). Using the same data, without changing any setting, sometimes it constructs the model successfully, and sometimes I get an index out of bounds error. Is this unexpected behaviour? I would appreciate any insights this issue. Thanks. ~Kendric > train.y [1] S S S S R R R R R R R R R R R R R R R
