getting ISO week
Hi all, Is there a simple function already implemented for getting the ISO weeks of a Date object? I couldn't find one, and so wrote my own function to do it, but would appreciate a pointer to the "default" way. If a function is not yet implemented, could the code below be of interest to submit to CRAN? Best Regards, Gustaf --------------------

Can you recover default argument values of a function?
Hi. Maybe this is a stupid question. If so, I apologize, but here goes. Suppose I have a function f1(x,...) that calls a function f2(y1,y2,...,yn) in the following way: if x satisfies a certain condition, then I want to call f2(x,y2,...,yn); otherwise I want to use the default value of y1, if there is one. I could do something like the following: v <- ifelse ( is.null(x), f2( , y2,...,

plot 4th variable contour lines on filled.contour
Hello, I have a dataset with 4 variables, each consisting of a vector, all with the same length. I start by interpolating the first three variables using the function "interp", and plot the interpolation successfully using "filled.contour". I then interpolate the first two variables and a fourth using "interp" again, but when I try to overlay the contour lines

profiles?
Sometimes a user logging in takes a while. I suspect the time delay is due to the size of a user's profile. Where is the profile data kept and how can this data be scrubbed or compressed? Mike

system vs shell wait command
Dear All, I try to invoke a second program (called "gencont") within a R script. However this second program needs some time to finish. After finishing the output should be read into R and used for further calculation. Under windows, it perfectly works: result<-shell("gencont < yn.txt",intern=TRUE,wait=TRUE) # R waits untill the program finishes (apporx 3 min) and

Webgeb 0.5.x possible in Windows XP?
Hi Colin, I think fcgi is only required for testing. I do without it and directly open the output files in my browser. Maybe try saying no to ramaze or whatever depends on fcgi? Samba Breaks with ACLs
Hello, We are running Samba 3.0.23c on Debian. Over the weekend, we updated out file server to Debian's kernel 2.6.18. We had previously never run a kernel with ACL support enabled. Since the upgrade, we are seeing very strange permission behavior. It appears to be related to POSIX ACL support in Samba. It seems that what's happening is this. We have a number of files that are

persp plot
I have a set of data in the form x1, y1, z1 x1, y2, z2 ... x1, yN, zN x2, y1, z(N+1) x2, y2, z(N+2) ... x2, yN, z(2N) ...and so on... xM, yN, val(M*N) I have been trying to figure out how to get R to use this data in a persp plot. So far the only thing that I can figure out to do is to break the data file into three different files. The first file contains the x-coordinate data: x1 x2

substr not by position but by symbol
Hi all, One of my variables looks like this: .7_-.3_-.2_.9 And this is a character variable. I made this by combining four different number like .7, -.3, -.2, and .9 using paste function. Now, I want to go back to original format from this one combined character variable. For instance, I want to extract 3rd number, -.2, from this character. I know I can use substr function, but each position

Latest version of kate editor
I have installed the kate editor on Centos 6.7 but it seems to be a very old version, 3.3.4, installed as part of kdesdk. On Centos 7 I can simply run 'yum install kate' but, alas, not on Centos 6. What is the recommended way of updating kate on Centos 6? Thank you.

Matrix inversion
I cannot find what is the function label for matrix inversion in R. I have found 'ginv' for the moore-penrose in the MASS package, but there is probably a simple inversion operator in the base package. Where can I find it? ____________________________________________ Yvonnick Noel, PhD. University of Lille 3 Department of Psychology F-59653 Villeneuve d'Ascq Cedex (+33) 320 41 63 48

how to do multiple responses in a linear regression
Hi, I have multiple responses y1, y2, .., yn, and would like to do linear regression for each of them with x1, x2, ..., xm. Instead of doing regression n times, it it possible to do it all at once? I tried lm(y1+y2 ~ x1 + x2 + x3) and lm added y1 y2 and then did the regression. thanks Jeff

cor() on sets of vectors
suppose I have two sets of vectors: x1,x2,...,xN and y1,y2,...,yN. I want N correlations: cor(x1,y1), cor(x2,y2), ..., cor(xN,yN). my sets of vectors are arranged as data frames x & y (vector=column): x <- data.frame(a=rnorm(10),b=rnorm(10),c=rnorm(10)) y <- data.frame(d=rnorm(10),e=rnorm(10),f=rnorm(10)) cor(x,y) returns a _matrix_ of all pairwise correlations: cor(x,y)
