tips for looping over a category for beginner
hello, I am very new to R. My current data set is a mix of values and categories. It is a geoscience data set, with values per rock sample. Case in point, each sample belongs to a lithology class, and each sample has several physical property measurements (density, porosity...). I want to be able to plot these physical properties for all samples in each lithology class. this is how i'm doing

spatial markov chain methods
Hello, can any one point me to R-packages (if available) which include spatial Markov Chain methods? My second question is more general but hopefully not OT: Currently we are using the software TPROGS, which let people simulate property distributions in space by some Markov Chain approaches. We face some problems due to the lack of information between distances of samples along borehole path

Categorical variable in a custom nonlin function with gnm
Hi all I want to construct a generalised nonlinear model (binomial family) using gnm, of the form: Response = a + b variable1 + c variable2 + d variable3 - d b variable4 - d c variable5, with the parameters b, c, and d appearing more than once. Hence, I think I need to use a custom nonlin function with gnm. One of my predictor variables is categorical, so I have created a dummy variable for

create a new dataframe with intervals and computing a weighted average for each of its rows
I need you help with this problem, I have a data-frame like this: BHID=c(43,43,43,43,44,44,44,44,44) FROM=c(50.9,46.7,44.2,43.1,52.3,51.9,49.3,46.2,42.38) TO=c(46.7,44.2,43.1,40.9,51.9,49.3,46.2,42.38,36.3) AR=c(45,46,0.0,38.45,50.05,22.9,0,25,9) DF<-data.frame(BHID,FROM,TO,VALUE) #add the length DF$LENGTH=DF$FROM-DF$TO where: + BHID: is the borehole

replace NA
Hello all   I have a geology map that has three level, bellow   <-geology lithology    landscape   landform     landform level is used as covariate (with codes=1,2,3,4,5) for training of neural network, but this level has missing data as NA. I want to replace the missing data of landform level with 0 (zero). Finally, landform will have codes  0,1,2,3,4,5.   please help me   Thanks alot.

Nesting in Cox proportional hazards survivorship analysis
Hello, My advisor and I have been working on some survivorship analyses in R and we are hoping to get some feedback on a particular issue involving nesting. We are interested in patterns of food discovery by ant species. Our observations consist of time to discovery by an ant for three different food types, each of two different sizes. These data were collected at 6 plots located in each of

Brown-Forsythe Test
Hi, do anyone know which statistical software have the Brown-Forsythe Test for differences of numerical continue data groups wich variance heterogenity? not ofr evaluate the homogenity of variances, for evaluated the differences between groups as ANOVA. thanks Jos?? MLE Estimation of Gamma Distribution Parameters for data with 'zeros'
Greetings, all I am having difficulty getting the fitdistr() function to return without an error on my data. Specifically, what I'm trying to do is get a parameter estimation for fracture intensity data in a well / borehole. Lower bound is 0 (no fractures in the selected data interval), and upper bound is ~ 10 - 50, depending on what scale you are conducting the analysis on. I read in the

Is Java insecure ?
Hi Everyone I am considering learning Java. There have been well publicized Java security incidents recently that make me not want to learn it. However it's in Centos and I trust Centos, are the concerns in the media blown out of proportion ? -Patrick
