Rsolnp package: warning messages
Dear,
I am using the solnp command (package Rsolnp) for a problem with
equality and inequality constraints.
I am not getting convergence for my problem but apart that I get 1
warning per iteration saying: ?In cbind(temp, funv) : number of rows
of result is not a multiple of vector length (arg 1)?.
I checked for equality and inequality functions and they seem fine to
me. Where this

Nonlinear programming problem
Hello useRs,
I'm using the command "solnp" in package "Rsolnp" to solve a general nonlinear programming problem. But I got an error that " the leading minor of order 15 is not positive definite
". Can anybody tell what may cause this error? Does it have something to do with the starting values?
Thanks a lot!!!

slight documentation error in "stats" package "arima"

Standards for delivery of GPL software in CRAN packages
I wondered if there were standard practices in CRAN for delivery of R source implementing functions in R packages. I has encountered a couple of packages where the gzipped version of source contains very little, primarily the Help files describing the functions in the package. In some cases I can find the source as the value of the function name.
Given that these packages are released as GPL,

connecting to remote database using RMySQL
Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask. I'm not aware of a
mail list devoted to database interfaces. Please direct me if
so.
I am trying to use TSMySQL. It loads RMySQL, and apparent the
CRAN version has an .onLoad script which seeks out the local
MySQL server. If that fails, the package fails to load.
Thing is, I'm trying to access a MySQL database on a remote
machine for which

choice of an HMM package
We are trying to build a human respiration model.
Preliminary analysis of some breathing signals has shown that humans breathe
through switching among
a finite number of patterns.
Hidden Markov seems to be the right approach. Since most of our code is
written in R scripting language, finding an R package implementing an HMM
that we can use for our prototype would be very helpful.

recovering value of scalar from false color map and image
I have a JPEG map of temperature data, coded using a given legend where
blues are cooler and reds hotter. Is there any preexisting R magic or
package which might let me recover the value of the scalar quantity so
represented given the RGB values at each point in the picture?
After processing, I'd also like to push the results back through the
translate to get an RGB JPEG again.
Thanks for

depmixS4+transition
Dear helpers,
is there any possible that transition (in depmixS4) is in scale of two
variable, e.g transition=~scale(x1,x2)?
If it can be, how transition of two variable (covariate time) can be worked
in depmixS4-hidden markov model for time series.
Many thanks,
nglthu

DepmixS4
Hi I am trying to use depmixS4 package. Based on the documentation, it seems
that depmix allows one to fit an HMM model based on a training data with
time-varying co-variates. However, I did not find any routines which can
help test the accuracy on the fitted HMM model on out-of-sample data.
Can someone confirm if that is indeed the case?
Also are there any alternate packages for the same?
Thanks

RExcel issues
Hi -
For a while I've used RExcel without problems to run a repeating portfolio optimization problem where I solve for a portfolio allocation targeting a particular risk, then solve for a different risk, etc. I call the commands with (e.g.) rinterface.Rrun "(R command)"
Recently that macro started blowing up, returning #RErrors, and when I try to trace the error I find that it is

depmixS4 prediction
I am getting started with using the depmixS4 package. First, I would like
to see I am very impressed with its speed and flexibility.
The question I have is regarding predicting on new data. I want to fit the
model on some sequences with observed responses, and then make predictions
on the right end of the sequences where the responses are not observed. I
see no prediction functionality anywhere,

depmixs4 standardError() issue
Hello,
I've been enjoying using the "Mixture and Hidden Markov Models in R" by Visser & Speekenbrink to learn how to apply these analyses to my own data using depmixS4.
I currently have a fitted 4-state mixture model with three emissions variables and one binomial covariate (HS). I am trying to compute confidence intervals using the following code, where fmms4s is the model:

Hidden Markov Models in R
R Community -
I am attempting to fit a model as described in Hampton, Bossaerts, and
O'doherty (J. Neuroscience) 2006. They use a bayesian hidden markov model
to model the Reversal Learning data. I have tried using HMM and depmixS4
with no success. My data is a Reversal Learning Task in which there are 3
sets of patterns over 3 blocks. The participant receives incorrect or

constrained optimization
Dear list,
The task view on optimization does not reference a package for non linear
constrained optimization problems. Stefan Theussl told me to look at the
Rsolnp package, but unfortunately it is not very clear what method is R
ported. (The authors ported the matlab code of Yinyu Ye
