Sluggish server with big array
Hi! I am experiencing strange behavior with my new CentOS 6.3 installation (system up to date). I have a big 11 TB EXT4 array mounted on /home/data. The server is a Tyan 2U (TA26-B3992-E) with Dual Opteron 2216, one cpu has 4 Gigs RAM and the other has 8 Gigs (so 12 Gigs total). The server uses 8 x Seagate 2TB SAS hard disks (7200 RPM) and all the disks are grouped together to form 1

[Hardware] Good Server I/O on-the-cheap: ASL Monarch 811x with CentOS 4.2 ...
Since good server designs have come up in the past, I wanted to point out a "low-cost" server option that has good I/O, and the vendor offers _your_choice_ of not only Fedora Core or Red Hat Enterprise Linux, but _also_ CentOS _shipped_ with it! IN-A-NUTSHELL ... Starting at just over $750, you can get a single Socket-939 Opteron 1xx (dual-core is an option) system with up to 4GiB of

iptables patch-o-matic
Hi, I am trying to install some additional iptables modules on a CentOS 5 Box (imq, tarpit, geoip). Can anyone recommend a version of patch-o-matic-ng that works well with the CentOS 5 kernel sources (2.6.18-8.1.4)? The most current version (patch-o-matic-ng-20070521.tar.bz2) does not compile. With patch-o-matic-ng-20061128.tar.bz2 I could at least get tarpit working but geoip and imq seem

[LEARNING OUTCOME] Wi-Fi WPA Hacking Tool is Totally Useless on New Wireless Routers
Hi, I am sharing my learning outcomes. Recently I downloaded Kali Linux 64-bit Version 2018.1 and ran it on my HP laptop with the integrated Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260 Wireless Network Card. I wanted to test if I could hack the Wi-Fi WPA password on Ruckus R700 Access Point (AP) and the Aztech DSL8900GR(AC) Wireless Router. So I started using the Reaver WPA cracking tool. I understand

Serverworks HT1000 chipset drivers (Supermicro H8SSL motherboard)
Anyone using boards with this chipset? I've gotten some dual core single cpu boxes along with the physical dual cpu boxes I just received and they're using the Serverworks HT1000 (Broadcom 5785) chipset. My CentOS 4.2 DVD doesn't want to recognize the chipset so I can't see any of the SATA drives in the integrated SATA ports. Drives on 3Ware cards work as expected, but I

NFS filesystem recommendations please (and problems with XFS)
Hello all, I am implementing a new mail server into our environment consisting of three machines - two Dell Opterons that will act as load balanced Postfix servers, and a 1.5TB RAID10 NFS server. All three machines are running CentOS 4.5. Since the NFS is going to be used for only mail, I was kicking around the idea to use XFS. I have CentOS installed on an ext3 partition, and with the

Installing to other than "/" label
I have a system with Fedora installed on the partition with label "/". Can I install CentOS on a new empty partition (/dev/cciss/c0d3p1), or do I need to remove the "/" label on the Fedora partition and change Fedora's fstab to mount by physical partition? I'd like to keep Fedora as a fall-back OS until I have CentOS completely up and working. My Fedora fstab:

[FreeBSD] Fix for ServerWorks HT1000 in upcoming 7.1?
Hi, I have a server (Dell PowerEdge SC1435, ServerWorks HT1000) on which I'd like to try installing FreeBSD. I've already failed to make 7.0 work on this box and was wondering if you have information about the behavior of the upcoming 7.1 on this hardware. I've been following the "HT1000 chipset errata saga" thread, and the commits by sos@ to CVS (around Jan 2008), but have

Suggestions for partition
The recent thread on Anaconda and RAID10 made me start to think about how to partition a server I'm about to set up. I have two 146GB SCSI drives on an IBM x3550. It will be used as a build system. As such, there is no critical data on these systems, as the source code will be checked out of our source control system, and the build results are copied to another system. I usually

[patch]: qemu-xen: pass-through: pt_reset_interrupt_and_io_mapping(): use hw INTX
This fixes a few things that I missed in previous patches: * Use the hw INTX rather than INTA in pt_reset_interrupt_and_io_mapping() This is consistent with other uses of pci_intx() * Remove now inaccurate "/* fix virtual interrupt pin to INTA# */" comments * Use PCI_SLOT() Signed-off-by: Simon Horman <horms@verge.net.au> Index: ioemu-remote/hw/pass-through.c

"INTx fd" busy error on VM startup at boot, subsequent startup okay
Hey all, I'm getting an error starting a libvirt managed qemu/kvm VM at physical host boot time, but manually starting it afterwards works fine. This is on a Ubuntu Wily i7-4790 box running Linux 4.2 and libvirt 1.2.16. There is a legacy (5V) PCI card being passed through to the VM, the error seems to relate to that. The error that always appears at boot in

Re: "INTx fd" busy error on VM startup at boot, subsequent startup okay
Hey Mike, did you ever have any success figuring out this issue? I am having the same problem (on CentOS 7) with a custom data acquisition PCI card. It seems like the solution might have something to do with delaying the start of libvirtd in systemd until the PCI card (or vfio?) is ready, but I don’t know how to do that. Can anyone else offer assistance? My output: 2016-03-29T18:29:26.191010Z

Tigon3 (tg3 - NexTreme) linux-2.6-xen.hg
Hi all I''m trying to get Xen running on a Tyan MB, having 3 NICs (1 e100 and 2 tg3''s). Using linux-2.6.hg on a dual Opteron. Compile was OK, and using the e100 as eth0 everything works as it should, great thing. when having one of the tg3''s as eth0, Dom0 works ok, but when starting a DomU, the network in as well Dom0 as DomU stop (as in ''completely
