terribly naive question
Dear R-Representative: I am very new to R and I have to admit that I am not the cleverest of users. So, please bear with me. I have installed R on my Mac OS 8.6. I am interested in eventually using the packages -- many useful ones have been downloaded with the basic R software. I have looked through some of the manuals, however, I have not yet found how to access the commands in these packages.

Grouping by interval
Hello, I have a dataframe of say 20 lines with one line per individual. I want to group these 20 individuals by length class (eg. of 5cm) and get the mean value of all the other variables (eg VarA and VarB) for each length class My dataframe is as follow: Length <- 10:30 VarA <- seq(1000,1200,10) VarB <- seq(500,700,10) Data <- cbind(Length,VarA,VarB) And I want to get something

help on sampling from the truncated normal/gamma distribution on the far end (probability is very low)
Hi, guys, I am trying to sample from a truncated normal/gamma distribution. But only the far end of the distribution (where the probability is very low) is left. e.g. mu = - 4; sigma = 0.1; The distribution is Normal(mu,sigma^2) truncated on [0,+Inf]; How can I get a sample? I tried to use inverse CDF method, but got Inf as answers. Please help me out. Also, pls help me on the similar

importing spreadsheet data - linera regression - panel data
Hi everyone and thank you for the help you could give me. My data is in a spreadsheet. The 1st column identifies the firm (with the fiscal number), the columns 2 to 11 have the variable value for 11 years. I have many variables (files like this). Each file has about 40.000 firms (rows). I transformed all the files in txt files. The data is a panel data, like this: firm revenu2007 revenue2006

Searching for terms in free-form text
What is the best way to search a (possibly long) string of free-form text (like, say, an email) for occurrances of some set of key phrases of interest? Fuzzy or not; I''ll take what I can get. Thanks in advance! -- Sonia Lyris | slyris at gmail.com

sample a matrix with one element to be 1 from wishart distribution
Hi, I am not sure if this make sense at all. I'd like to sample a matrix, which follows a wishart / inverted wishart distribution. However, the (1,1) element of this matrix should always be equal to 1. How can I handle it in R? Any suggestion is greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot. Sonia [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Exclusive oplock left by process
Hi all, We have a HP-UX 11i server running as a samba server. Users use Windows 2000 boxes with Service Pack 4 to connect to the samba server. Several days ago, we upgraded samba server from 2.0.7 to 3.0.5, and we started to experience the following problem: The general connection and access to the samba server is ok. However, under the samba share there have been some directories mounted from

[LLVMdev] Question about PTXFrameLowering
Hi all, I'm learning the PTX backend and confused by the following problem. In the constructor of PTXFrameLowering, StackAlignment and LocalAreaOffset are assigned 2 and -2, respectively. Since PTX has neither stack frame nor stack pointer, why StackAlignment and LocalAreaOffset are needed and where does 2 and -2 come from? Any explanation is appreciated. Thank you in advance! Yours

[LLVMdev] Legalizing truncating store using atomic load.
Hi, Our target only has native support for i32 and f32 types. For data types smaller than these, I have to custom lowering truncating store using two atomic load instruction (which have the same semantics as ISD::ATOMIC_LOAD_AND and ATOMIC_LOAD_OR, respectively). I run into a problem during the legalization process, where the legalizer complains that ISD::STORE and ISD::ATOMIC_LOAD_OR (generated

[LLVMdev] [TableGen] How to specify multiple types to one register class.
Hi all, In our architecture, there is a set of general purpose registers which could be used to store integer and floating point numbers. My problem is how to correctly specify the type of this register class. For now, its type is specified as i32, and it is problematic if it is used in floating point instructions, since tablegen cannot correctly infer the type information of such a pattern. Here
