Slashdot: Building A Web-And Mail Server With CentOS 4.3
I may not agree with everything they say, such as
ISPConfig (I prefer webmin) but this tutorial offers a
"step by step opportunity for newbies". Does this
indicate that CentOS is now a "mainstream" distro?
(Technically speaking its not CentOS 4.3 but CentOS 4
Update 3 but we are not into semantics).

Newbie question on Rsync on Solaris
I want to replicate between two Solaris hosts. The source is Solaris 2.6
and the target is Solaris 2.8. Using rsh, the basic program seems fine (not
running in daemon mode), but I have a problem.
The directory tree is about 150,000 files, with about 5 gb of data. I
tar'd the directory and moved it to the other side, but when I run an rsync
against that directory, it still wants to move

xyplot() with segments() superposed?
In the hypothetical example below, how do I add two segments() into
the two panels, respectively? Say segments(x0=5, y0=10, x1=5, y1=20)
on the left and segments(x0=15, y0=-10, x1=15, y1=-2) on the right?
Many thanks in advance,
Yuelin Li.
ps. part of the code came from a solution given by Deepayan Sarkar.

R-helpers,
I recently submitted a help request for the predict.drm function found in the drc package. I am still having issues with the function and I am submitting reproducible code hoping that somebody can help me figure out what is going on.

"No previous versions" - GPFS 3.5 and shadow_copy2
Hi all,
At some point recently my customers can no longer see GPFS snapshots under the Windows Previous Versions tab. It simply says "No previous versions available". If a fileset is exported with the flag "force user = root" then Previous Versions *are* displayed.

R2HTML Report number format, or Better Way?
Here I am again with question I'll feel foolish for asking, when I
see the answer.
I'm trying to produce a report and here's where I get stuck:
How do I get R2HTML to produce the same number format?
Particularly remove the decimal places for Par and Sal.
Are there better methods to produce this type of report?
Thanks,
L.A.

R_using non linear regression with constraints
I ran the following script. I satisfied the constraint by
making a*b a single parameter, which isn't always possible.
I also ran nlxb() from nlsr package, and this gives singular
values of the Jacobian. In the unconstrained case, the svs are
pretty awful, and I wouldn't trust the results as a model, though
the minimum is probably OK. The constrained result has a much
larger sum of squares.

líneas sobre un mapa
Gracias Emilio y Jorge.

rgl install problem on Solaris 10 X86
Hi,
Could you help me to install the rgl package on Solaris 10 x86?
I tried and got the following error messages.
When I compiled my R as 64bit, I used the SUN ProW compilers.
However, gcc seems to being used below as well as missing some information.
Thank you in advance,
Dongseok

R_using non linear regression with constraints
I am using nlsLM {minpack.lm} to find the values of parameters a and b of
function myfun which give the best fit for the data set, mydata.
mydata=data.frame(x=c(0,5,9,13,17,20),y = c(0,11,20,29,38,45))
myfun=function(a,b,r,t){
prd=a*b*(1-exp(-b*r*t))
return(prd)}
and using nlsLM
myfit=nlsLM(y~myfun(a,b,r=2,t=x),data=mydata,start=list(a=2000,b=0.05),
lower = c(1000,0),

R_using non linear regression with constraints
https://cran.r-project.org/web/views/Optimization.html
(Cran's optimization task view -- as always, you should search before posting)
In general, nonlinear optimization with nonlinear constraints is hard,
and the strategy used here (multiplying by a*b < 1000) may not work --
it introduces a discontinuity into the objective function, so
gradient based methods may in particular be

combining xYplot with map
I'm using xYplot to create a bubble plot of values that I'd like to
visualize on top of a filled-in map of the coast, but I'm too much of a
lattice (which I understand xYplot is built on) and mapping newbie to
figure out how to begin to make this happen. Below is some sample code
that doesn't work but illustrates my goal. Any pointers anyone has
would be much appreciated.

R_using non linear regression with constraints
I am not as expert as John, but I thought it worth pointing out that the
variable substitution technique gives up one set of constraints for
another (b=0 in this case). I also find that plots help me see what is
going on, so here is my reproducible example (note inclusion of library
calls for completeness). Note that NONE of the optimizers mentioned so far
appear to be finding the true best

R_using non linear regression with constraints
I've seen a number of problems like this over the years. The fact that the singular values of the Jacobian have
a ration larger than the usual convergence tolerances can mean the codes stop well before the best fit. That is
the "numerical analyst" view. David and Jeff have given geometric and statistical arguments. All views are useful,
but it takes some time to sort them all out and

set a different default gateway in an isolated network
Hello,
I would like to set a specify default gateway for my VMs. However I’m not succeeding
Here after is the isolated lan, where I added the statement <route address='10.0.0.0' prefix='8' gateway='10.10.0.7’/> where my aim is to route to the 10.10.0.7
What should I do , to make it works ?
Thanks
