sampling and testing
Hello everyone,
I have a dataset in the following format:
col1 col2
# #
# #
# #
# #
# #
# #
What I want to do is:
loop a random sample 10 times, and for each time it is sampled I want to
run a correlation between both columns. What I have so far is this:
>feb <- read.csv("corr.csv") # where the dataset is for February
>attach(feb)
>for(i in

How to loop on file names
Dear all,
I need to do the same procedure on several files. But I don't know how
to refer to the file name.
Here is an example of what I am trying to do.
List of files: file1(A,B,C, D1...Dn), file2(A,B,C,E1,...,En),
file3(A,B,C,F1,...,Fn)
Procedure I want to apply on each file:
dft <- melt(df,id=c('A','B','C'))
dft$X <- substr(dft$variable,1,3)
dft$Y <-

Retain parts of a matrix
Hi all,
I'm working to apply a function that will generate a matrix of results only
when a specific criteria is met.
I want my final results to be a matrix with both the values that meet the
criteria (the results of the function), and those that to do in the same
positions in the matrix (the original numbers).
Here's a sample of what I would like to do:
t.mean.1.c <- c(-15, -20,

RandomForests Limitations? Work Arounds?
Greetings,
I want to inquire about the memory limitations of the randomForest package.
I am attempting to perform clustering analysis using RF but I keep getting
the message that RF cannot allocate a vector of a given size. I am
currently using the 32-bit version of R to run this analysis, are there
fewer memory issues when using the 64-bit version of R? Mainly I want to be
able to run RF on

Installing rgdal in R: correct -configure flags for GDAL install on Linux Redhat
Hi, I'm installing rgdal but I keep having failures because I have not been
able to find a good source of information for the correct configuration
settings when installing GDAL.
My error from the R install.packages("rgdal") is below.
Can someone point me to a good source to tell me how to set after
./configure when installing GDAL?
I'd like to be able to work with raster

Timeseries Data Plotted as Monthly Boxplots
Hello, I'm trying to develop a box plot of time series data to look at the
range in the data values over the entire period of record.
My data initially starts out as a list of hourly data, and then I've been
using this code to make this data into the final ts array.
# Read in the station list
stn.list <- read.csv("/home/kbennett/fews/stnlist3", as.is=T, header=F)

Ranking and term proximity
Hi,
I was reading an article recently about how google ranks results
(among many other things of course) based on the proximity of the
search terms in the source documents. In addition, the position of
the search terms in the search query string itself is also taken into
consideration when determining how important each term is.
Does Xapian do something similar - at least for the first part?

OT: US city proximity search
Does anyone know where I might be able to download/purchase a database of US
cities and their longitude/latitude coordinates? I''d like to provide a
search option on a website that allows users to search by city but include
cities in the surrounding area.
Thanks,
Carl Youngblood

Proximity searching in rdig ferret
Lucene has a syntax "foo bar"~10 for finding foo within 10 words of bar.
Does ferret support this feature? (the ~ is used for fuzzy queries) Does
rdig?
This could be a deal breaker for me ''cos I really need proximity
searches

Proximity Detection: Motorola Q + Bluetooth + Asterisk
Hi,
Can anyone tell me if the Motorola Q has its Bluetooth always on like
the IPhone? I want to use the Motorola Q in a Proximity Detection setup
like that described on nerdvittles.com. I know the Treo 650 does not
work well since the display must be on for the bluetooth to be on and
this eats power.
Thanks

about randomForest
hello,
I want to use randomForest to classify a matrix which is 331030?42,the last column is class signal.I use ?
Memebers.rf<-randomForest(class~.,data=Memebers,proximity=TRUE,mtry=6,ntree=200) which told me" the error is matrix(0,n,n) set too elements"
then I use:
Memebers.rf<-randomForest(class~.,data=Memebers,importance=TRUE,proximity=TRUE) which told me"the error is

Memory limits for MDSplot in randomForest package
Hello,
I am struggling to produce an MDS plot using the randomForest package
with a moderately large data set. My data set has one categorical
response variables, 7 predictor variables and just under 19000
observations. That means my proximity matrix is approximately 133000
by 133000 which is quite large. To train a random forest on this large
a dataset I have to use my institutions high

Unsupervised RandomForest
Dear all,
I am trying to calculate the proximity matrix for a data set with 16 variables
and 6804 observations using random forests. I have a Pentium 4, 3.00GHz
processor with 1 GB of RAM. When I use the command
randomForest(data.scale,proximity=T)
I get the warning message
Error: cannot allocate vector of size 361675 kb
Is this because I have reached the limit of what my computer is

randomForest crash?
I am attempting to use randomForests to look for interesting genes in
microarray data with 216genes, 2 classes and 52 samples. My data.frame
is 52x217 with the last column, V217 being the class(1 or 2).
When I try
lung.rf <- randomForest(V217 ~ ., data=tlSA216cda, importance=

the GUI crashes.
I am running R-1.6.2 under windo$e98, and most

How to choose the proximity between search words
Hi,
I'd like to know how we can choose the distance between two words that we search
in a text. I know there is an "op_near" operator but I don't know how I can
specified that the number of words between the two specified words should not
exceed 10 or 20 or x words.
I'm really sorry for my terrible English, I hope I'm understandable!

RandomForest tuning the parameters
Hi Sacha,
On second thought, perhaps this is more the direction that you want ...
X2 = cbind(X_train,y_train)
colnames(X2)[3] = "y"
regr2<-randomForest(y~x1+x2, data=X2,maxnodes=10, ntree=10)
regr
regr2
#Make prediction
predictions= predict(regr, X_test)
predictions2= predict(regr2, X_test)
