warnings from hist(): parameter XXX couldn't be set in high-level plot functionN
Hello - This is not a real problem, just an annoyance. Sometimes, but not always, I get a set of strange warnings from hist(). Example follows. ############################ #Produce a histogram of start dates for a set of field measurements. # I didn't reproduce all the dates, because not sure it's relevant, but here's a sample. # Note the invalid date in the fifth element. >

Predict when regressors are passed through a data matrix
Hi everyone, this should be pretty basic but I need asking for help as I got stuck. I am running simple linear regression models on R with k regressors where k > 1. In order to automate my code I packed all the regressors in a matrix X so that lm(y~X) will always produce the results I want regardless of the variables in X. I am new to R but I found this advice somewhere so I guess it is

lattice levelplot axis ticks labels
Hello, I've searched for help a lot and think I am close, but an still not able to place ticks and labels how I'd like in lattice's levelplot. I've come up with general reproducible code that gives the same problem as I'm having with real data: heat <- array(1:24,c(3,8)) require (lattice) ##basically I want a graph like this. depth y axis doesn't have ticks and

X and Y axis labels on a barplot
Dear all, I have produced a barplot and wish to alter the axes a little. In place of the variable names appearing on the x-axis, I'd like to have the numbers 1986 to 1995. I have tried using the argument xlim=c(1986,1995) in the barplot command but receive: "Error in plot.window(xlim, ylim, log = log, ...) : invalid 'xlim' value" Also, on the y-axis, the values are

How to best divide table by table
Hi all, how can I divide two tables of the same dimension so that all names are preserved, ie do not become NA? I have "tab1" and "tab2", each having names in the first column. I want "tab3" with the same names and values "tab1/tab2". Thanks, Serguei

automatic SI prefixes as ticklabels on axis
i want to plot values with frequency on a logarithmic x axis. similar to this example that i found in the web: http://www.usspeaker.com/jensen%20p15n-graph.gif I would like to convert long numbers to si prefix notation like in the example (200000 to 200k, 35000000 to 3.5 M) Of course i could create labels by hand, but i have many files so i need some automatic function. Has anyone done that

All Day Events
I must be stupid because this cannot be this hard. I''m trying to build an all day calendar event. In most clients it shows up as an entry at the top of the day rather than blocking out the whole day with an event. I have a bit of code that looks like this... cal.event do dtstart DateTime.parse("#{startDate.year()}-#{startDate.month()}-#{startDate.day()}") dtend

weibplot (Weibull plot) for R
Hello, The following script allows for Weibull plots using R. Its output is similar to the output of the wblplot function (or weibplot function) in MATLAB. As opposed to the previously mentioned function it does not require proprietary software. Instead, it is based on R. My code also allows for a graphical visualization of weibull fitted data. In particular, data can be represented by a

Understanding date_select naming conventions
I am using the date_select helper to generate date select elements in a form. I notice that the generated HTML shows that these selects have the following names: Month: current_job[StartDate(2i)] Day: current_job[StartDate(3i)] Year: current_job[StartDate(1i)] I''m assuming that the Xi identifiers somehow specify the appropriate date part from a date or time value. Can anyone

odbcConnectExcel2007
Hi sorry if this is really basic but I am just starting on R. Can anyone point me at how to write R objects into Excel 2007 files. I have seen how to set up a connection to a file through odbcConnectExcel2007(xls.file, readOnly = FALSE, ...) but it doesn't say anything on how to write data Thanks _____________________________________________________________________ The

Date in dataframe manipulation
Hi, I have a dataframe with many columns, including date and I want to keep only a few of the columns including date column. I used the following command: with(FireDataAppling, cbind(STARTDATE, County, TOTAL, CAUSE) It works, but the date becomes days from Jan 1, 2001. FireDataAppling$STARTDATE[1] gives [1] 2001-01-04 00:00:00 1703 Levels: ......... After the cbind command, the entry

POSIX problem
I am having trouble with creating a POSIXct object. If I create a variable of class Date first out of the date part of my data, I am ok, but if I just paste the date and time parts together and try and create the POSIXct object, I have problems. Here is a toy example created from the actual data which caused the problem. I am using R 2.0.1 on Windows XP. > # Data frame with dates and

plotting every ith data point?
Hello, fellow R enthusiasts. Ok, I've been racking my brain about this small issue, and between searching the help archives and reading through the plot-related documentation, I can't figure out how to achieve my desired endpoint without some ugly, brute force coding. What I would like to do is make a plot in which only a subset of my data are plotted, but in regular intervals, such as

Exclude holidays in a subset of dates?
Hi All, I am iterating through dated materials, with variable start and end dates, and would like to skip procedures everytime I encounter a weekend or holiday. To do this, I thought the easiest way would be to create a TRUE/FALSE vector corresponding to each day where it is TRUE if a workday, and FALSE if a weekend or holiday. So far I have been able to do this for weekdays: startDate <-
