Hi, I've got a new server with a 3ware 9550SXU with the Battery. I am using FreeBSD 7.0-Release (tried both 4BSD and ULE) using AMD64 and the 3ware performance for writes is just plain horrible. Something is obviously wrong but I'm not sure what. I've got a 4 disk RAID 10 array. According to 3dm2 the cache is on. I even tried setting The StorSave preference to

I know there are a few 3Ware fans here and I was hoping to find some help. I just built a new server using a 3Ware 9550SX-4LP with four disks in raid 5. The array is fully initialized but I'm not getting the write performance I was hoping for -- only 40 to 45MB/Sec. 3Ware's site advertises 300MB/Sec writes using 8 disks on the PCI Express version of this card (the 9580 I think.)

I have the latest kernel with the drivers for my 3ware 9550SX built in. Where can I find the tools and monitoring apps for this card? Are there rpms hiding somewhere, or do I need to build it from source? -- Bowie

I am planning to build a server based on the SuperMicro X7DBE+-O motherboard. This server will have two dual-core Xeon processors and a 3ware 9550SX raid card. All, I have a problem with a new Seagate hard disk. The problem occurs when i go to install CentOS, i insert the cd and start the boot up process, when it gets to the section where it detects the hard disks, the driver is seems crashes, the message it produces complains about no one caring about a interrupt on IRQ11. I have a CentOS 7 server that I want to use as an audio source for our hold music. It does not have a GUI installed, so I am looking for a program with a command line interface that will let me play a folder full of mp3 files on a continuous loop. Hi, Is it possible to create one raid volume of 3.3 TB (9550SX-8lp X WD5000YS - 8nos) and create a file system with ext3? (CentOs4.3 64bit) The maximum I am getting is 1.24tb and fdisk returns no more space available. But when I say fdisk /dev/sda it list full size of 3.3 TB. System: Supermicro H8DA8 with 2 x Opteron 250 2.4GHz and 4GB RAM installed. 9550SX-8LP hosting 4x Seagate ST3250820SV 250GB in a RAID 1 plus 2 hot spare config. I suspect it''s probably not a good idea but I was wondering if someone could clarify the details. I have 4 250G SATA(150) disks and 1 250G PATA(133) disk. Would it cause problems if I created a raidz1 pool across all 5 drives? I know the PATA drive is slower so would it slow the access across the whole pool or just when accessing that disk? Now that I've been enlightened to the terrible write performance of ext3 on my new 3Ware RAID 5 array, I'm stuck choosing an alternative filesystem. I benchmarked XFS, JFS, ReiserFS and ext3 and they came back in that order from best to worst performer. I'm leaning towards XFS because of performance and because centosplus makes kernel modules available for the stock kernel.

I've been planning to build a dual Opteron server for awhile. I'd like to get people's suggestions on a suitable motherboard. I've looked at the Tyan K8SE (S2892) and K8SRE (S2891) but would like to find more Linux-specific experiences with these boards.
