mhtplot?
Hello All: I was wondering why many plot options are not working with mhtplot. I could not find much info about this function on the web too. Any comments, any detailed manual ... Thanks, MJK [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

numbers on barplot
Hello all, I have this simple barplot code: ifn <- "id.dat" dat <- read.table(ifn) ofn <- "id.png" bitmap(ofn, type = "png256", width = 30, height = 30, pointsize = 30, bg = "white",res=50) par(mar=c(5, 5, 3, 2),lwd=5) par(cex.main=1.6,cex.lab=1.6,cex.axis=1.6) names(dat)<-c("NumberOfPeople","Average")

problem with putting text in outer margins (mtext outer=TRUE)
Hi there, I'm trying to get some text in the outer margins of my plots and am having trouble - the margin text is overlapping my plots, even though the outer margin I'm trying to put it in is very big. I've simplified my problem down to this: ------------------------- X11(width=7.5,height=10) par(mfrow=c(6,1),oma=c(20,0,20,0), mar=c(0,3.1,1,2.1)) for (i in 1:6) {

plot error -- figure margins too large
Hi, I am trying to plot my dataset, consisting of one column with numeric values and one column with group IDs. The set is similar to the following df. df <- NULL for ( i in 1:20) { tmp1 <- runif(1000,0,5) tmp2 <- cbind(tmp1,i) df <- rbind(df,tmp2) } Now I would like to plot the numeric column, stratified by the group IDs, in a single figure. First, I partitioned the frame

array question
Hello All: If I do have: x = (2, 4, 5, 5, 6, 4, 5, 2, 1) y = (9, 11.5, 12.5, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 22) I wanted to find a simple function in R which calculates the averages of X and Y for every 4 unit increase of Y. The results should look like: x = (4, 6, 3) #where (2+ 4+ 5+ 5)/ 4 = 4 and ... y = (12, 14, 20.5) #where (9+11.5+12.5+13)/ 4 = 12 and ... Thanks, Mohsen

Barplot2 using for loop, how to adjust margins?
Hi R-users, I inted to make multiple plots using for loop. The question is how can I adjust the left hand side margin of the plot according to the names.arg argument in barplot2. In every plot I have different annotations in the y axis and they vary in length. Now when I have fixed margins opar <- par(mar=c(3,15,0,2)... I get the same margins in all of the plots. That leaves lots of white

Histogram
Dear all, I want to design a histogram and I need to have the frequency at certain points. For example I have the following 2 columns: *X Y* 0.1 25 0.4 22 0.45 11 0.55 21 I want the chart to have 4 columns. First column is from 0.0-0.1 (on X) and frequency is 25. Next colum is wider and form 0.1-0.4 with 22 frequency. Next column is narrow with 11 frequency and the last column is

size of graphs when using multiple figures by row
Hi all, I have a basic question concerning graphs in R. I?m using the par() function and I?m working with multiple figures by row (mfrow) but my the hight of my figures become compressed. I have 4 rows and 2 columns (because I want to plot 8 histograms (freq = FALSE ) on it. I know I can adapt my margins with for example ?oma? and ?mai? but I don?t know how to choose the size of the figure? I

reading a string
Hello All: I am having the following data file named "data.dat" Number of people Number of pets Age of trees ifn <- "data.dat" dat <- read.table(ifn) colnames(dat)<-c("Variables") I want R to read all these in a string but when I ask R to read these, it gives me error because there more than one word in each line. Any comments to solve this problem?

Par() Variables, Timing, and Resizing
Hello, R-help, Although this is my first post to the mailing list, I have been a subscriber for a while now, and have found all of the posts to be very informative in my quest to attempt to master R. Thank you for that in advance. This question involves the use of the par() variables pin, oma, and mar to resize "sub-plots" in an output window. I am aware from ?plot that the use of

Wrinting integers in a matrix faile
Hello everyone, I am using the following program to get the p-value of some numbers (column 'LR' of the data.dat file). I want to write the 1st and 2nd column of the output file (data.out) as an integer while the program change them to double. Could anybody please tell me how I can write the code which writes the values of the first two columns as integer? Thanks library ('MASS')

Write text in the
Hey Felix, So basically what you want is a figure containing a block of four plots, with a main title for the figure? If that's the case then something like this should work: # BEGIN CODE # par(oma=c(0,0,1,0), mfrow=c(2,2)) for(i in 1:4){ plot(NA,xlim=range(0,10),ylim=range(-5,5)) title(paste("Plot ",i,sep="")) } par(mfrow=c(1,1), oma=c(0,0,1,0)) mtext("Main

Spacing and margins in plot
If I use the following command to plot points: plot(c(1,2,2,3,3,3), type="p", pch=20, ylab="Y Label", xlab="X Label", xaxt="n") there is a large amount of space between the label "X Label" and the actual x-axis. If I change the xaxt="n" to xaxt="s", the label "X Label" don't move at all. Is there a way to get

Multiple plot margins
Hello I'm plotting 6 graphs using "mfrow = c(2, 3)". In these plots, only graphs in the first column have titles for the y axis, and only the ones in the last row have titles for the x axis. I'd like all plots to be of the same size, and I'm trying to keep them as near each other as possible, but I'm having the following problem. If I make a single call to par(mar =

Re: Universal legend in plot
Dear R-users: I asked a question on how I can have a universal legend in a plot and received the following result. I tried using "layout" but I can't seem to work on the "empty" plot (where I have to have the legend). I tried "oma" but I couldn't improve the quality of the plot, and that I didn't know how to specify all the line types using the

Chi-Square test
Hello all, I am doing a Likelihood Ratio (LR) test in my simulation and I have a vector LR values (each with 1 degree of freedom) at the end of my simulation. Can anybody tell me how I can write a 'R' code which gives me the p-value for each of those LR values. Thanks [[alternative HTML version deleted]]
