Request for advice on character set conversions (those damn Excel files, again ...)
Dear list,
I have to read a not-so-small bunch of not-so-small Excel files, which
seem to have traversed Window 3.1, Windows95 and Windows NT versions of
the thing (with maybe a Mac or two thrown in for good measure...).
The problem is that 1) I need to read strings, and 2) those
strings may have various encodings. In the same sheet of the same file,
some cells may be latin1, some

[LLVMdev] Backend : What am I missing here
Hi,
While working on adding newlib to my backend I hit the following assert :
Assertion failed: BestRC && "Couldn't find the register class", file
TargetRegisterInfo.cpp, line 112
The following llvm causes this :
define void @specialBreak(i8* %out) nounwind {
entry:
%out.addr = alloca i8*, align 4
store i8* %out, i8** %out.addr, align 4
%0 = load i8** %out.addr,

[LLVMdev] Is r174746 broken on ARM?
Hello Hal,
I have a strong suspicion that your constant folding optimization
introduced at r174746 is broken on ARM. There is a bug about it:
http://llvm.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=15581
There is no such issue with 3.2, and reverting r174746 on top of
r178740 also fixes the problem. I'm trying to fix it myself, but
still have no good ideas; so it would be great to have an advice
from you.

I am encountering a cyclic dependency error when running R CMD check on an R package I wrote (R version 2.6.1, Mac OS X 10.4), see the error message below.

Hi all,
I've discovered and (hopefully) fixed a bug in the stars function I wrote

Pearson correlation with randomization
Hello,
I will be very obliged if someone can help me with this statistical R
problem:
I am trying to do a Pearson correlation on my datasets X, Y with
randomization test. My X and Y datasets are pairs.
1. I want to randomize (rearrange) only my X dataset per row ,while
keeping the my Y dataset as it is.
2. Then Calculate the correlation for this pair, and compare it to
your true

Re: [PATCH virt-v2v] v2v: Allow temporary directory to be set on a global basis.
I finally got access to the container. This is how it's configured:
* / => an overlay fs.
There is sufficient space here, and there are no "funny" restrictions,
to be able to create the libguestfs appliance. I proved this by
setting TMPDIR to a temporary directory under / and running
libguestfs-test-tool.
There appears to be quite a lot of free space here, so in fact the

Dear friends:
Forgot to include three more data files:

Thank you again.

Questions about AGI and Wildcard boards
Hello all :)
I've just been handed a project that I need to get working pretty quickly.
Basically I have four "analog DID trunks" for incoming only calls coming in.
I know that these are Loop start with Wink start, and that after wink they
send a 4-digit id number. Is this something that the Wildcard boards are
able to handle and that Asterisk could interpret? The digits

Seperating Forground from Background
One thing I have noticed when encoding VCDs is that often videos with
complex backgrounds don't compress nearly as well as those with simple
ones. Part of the problem is that TV cameras seam to have the focus so
that the entire image is clear rather than focusing on the foreground (and
blurring the backgrounds). The result is that a good number of bits are
wasted trying to perfectly

VM Creation Timestamp
Hello,
Is there any way to query libvirt, ideally through virsh CLI utility or
similar, to get a timestamp of when a VM was created.
Or to put it another way, a timestamp of when a domain's UUID was allocated.
Many thanks,

Default Hidden Disk Shares
Windows automatically creates an Admin level disk share as \\server\volume$
<file:///\\server\volume$> .
Can anyone tell me if Samba automatically does the same without having to
define these in SMB.CONF?
Thanks, Robert.
