Writing R Library
Hi there, I'm trying to write an R library (for Windows version) when I encountered this problem. I put in a dataset called mussels into a sub-folder, data (I saw this is how it is done in other libraries). However when I load the library in R and typed: data(mussels) it complains it cannot find the data set in the library. Everything else works fine (so far), am I missing something

plotting two variables with a third used for color
I have a problem where I have two columns of data that I can simply plot using: plot(wV[0:15,3],wY[0:15,3]). This produces my desired plot. Now, say I have a third variable that I would like to introduce and use that variable to set different colors in the plot In this case, say I wanted values greater than 0 to be "blue" and values less than 0 to be "red" Basically, my

help with winbugs glm
Hi, I am running a model with count data and one categorical predictor (simple model for me to understand it fully), I did in R a glm like this: glm(Recruitment~Depth, family=poisson). I get the coefficientes and confidence intervals and all is ok. But then I want to do the same model with Bayesian stats, here is my code: model { for (i in 1:232) { Recruitment[i]~dpois(lambda[i])

Loop
Hi all, Assume the following function that generate a random number. z1<-function (n, eta) { wv <- runif(n) wz <- (-1/eta) * log(wv) wz } y <- z1(100,4) mean(y) I want to run this function say 1000 times and I want to count if the mean(y) outside the following range 0.20 to 0.30. How do I do it in R? Thanks in advance

OT dovecot w/postfix, mysql , postfix does unnecessary lookups
I know this unnecessary lookups question is really a postfix one, but I'm curious if anyone else sees the behaviour of postfix continuing looking up users after it clearly have got its answer that it is "not a local domain" response. (this msg is an extract from what I sent to WV some time ago, with him showing absolutely no interest, I got bored tonight so thought I'd throw

JDataFrame API
Hi Folks, If you need to send data from Java to R you may consider using the JDataFrame API -- which is used to convert data into JSON which then can be converted into a data frame in R. Here's the project page: https://coherentlogic.com/middleware-development/jdataframe/ and here's a partial example which demonstrates what the API looks like: String result = new JDataFrameBuilder()

high-dimensional contingency table
Dear Friends. I am just starting to use R. And in this occasion I want to construct a high-dimensional contingency table, because I want to crate a mosaic plot with the vcd package. My table is in this format: año ac.rep cat.gru conteos 1 2005 R parejas 253 2 2005 N parejas 23 3 2006 R parejas 347 4 2006 N parejas 39 5 2007 R

converting .doc to html
Anyone got a preferred program or package for this? I'd like a *good* one, and Word or OO.o's save as html in no way qualifies as other than amateur crap. So far, with a little googling, I've found the wv package. wvHtml works, but I don't like the output - it insists on <div>, and on &rhquo instead of plain, simple ". mark "what, ask for an opinion in

Dear R Users, In the expresso function, which combination of these methods for data pre-processing (when using affymetrix oligo arrays) is the best: bgcorrect.metod = rma rma2 mas normalize.method = qspline quantiles loess pmcorrect.method = pmonly subtractmm mas summary.method = liwong avgdiff medianpolish mas There are many options within each method. I would appreciate a hint on the best

Lattice device page options-margins
I am using lattice to make figures as pdfs: trellis.device(device = "pdf",file = "Figure6.pdf",color = FALSE) I need to specify some blank space on the left-hand margins (the pages will be bound so we need about 0.5 inch)). I have tried a number of solutions but none seems to work (e.g. par.set). Can this be done when initiating the plotting device? Or is the some other way

boxplot with average instead of median
I really like the ease of use with the boxplot command in R. I would rather have a boxplot that shows the average value and the standard deviation then the median value and the quartiles. Is there a way to do this? Chad Junkermeier, Graduate Student Dept. of Physics West Virginia University PO Box 6315 210 Hodges Hall Morgantown WV 26506-6315 phone: (304) 293-3442 ext. 1430 fax: (304)

More elegant magnitude method
I have a need to find the order of number to get a scaling parameter as a power of 10. I have a function that works *so far*, but it is ugly and probably buggy. In the interest of avoiding code-based outliers in my data, I thought I would ask if anyone here has a better way. > scl <- function(x){ + length(charToRaw(format(trunc(x), scientific = F)))-1} > a <- 123456789 > b <-

Two dimensional Array defined on intevals
Hi I am new to R and am trying to set up a two-dimensional array/matrix with the elements defined by the function similar to below. Been trying to use outer with apply but can't seem to get the indexing quite right. Is their a simple way of accomplishing this task ?? ----- / | 1 x < 0.5 & y < 0.5 |

Constructing titles from list of expressions
Hello! I have the following problem: I have a function to construct three surfaceplots with a marker for an optimum, each of the plots has as title paste("Estimated ",pred.var.lab," for ",var.lab[1]," vs. ",var.lab[2],sep="") with different var.lab[1,2] each time. My problem is now that I need to allow for plotmath expressions in the variables pred.var.lab

Issue with pkgconf when upgrading to 4.4.1
Hi all, I am running Ubuntu 20.04.6 (focal) (yes, planning to upgrade soon) and just updated to 4.4.1. However, the process did not quite go as smoothly. 'sudo apt upgrade' ran but 'r-base-dev' was not updated because of a dependency issue: [08:57] ? wviechtb at wv-x5 ? ~/ ? sudo apt upgrade r-base-dev Reading package lists... topTable function from LIMMA
Dear R-Help, I am using the function "topTable" from the LIMMA package. To estimate adjusted P-values there are several options (adjust="fdr" , adjust="BH") as shown below: topTable(fit, number = 10, adjust = "BH", fit$Name) I guess any of these options (fdr, BH, etc.) is using a default of FDR=0.05 which is quite conservative (i.e., very

JDataFrame API
Hi Simon, Thanks for your feedback. -- this is an observation that I wasn't considering when I wrote this mainly because I am, in fact, working with rather small data sets. BTW: There is code there, it's under the bitbucket link -- here's the direct link if you'd still like to look at it: https://bitbucket.org/CoherentLogic/jdataframe Re "for practical purposes is

Indexing Elements of a Dataframe
Hello List-Members, Let's say that I have the following code: for (i in c(10, 20, 30)) { for (j in c(200, 400, 600)) { ... ... x <- "something" * (code here) } } * Now, x is some result that I want to put into a results "matrix" that looks like this: 200 400 600 10 20 30 I came up with an ad-hoc solution adding some counters (called
