Wierd Networking Problem
Hi Guys, I'm 100% sure this is not a Linux issue but I want a second opinion... I have a Linux server running CentOS. It was been absolutely perfect without any errors or problems. Since Monday it has been unable to send email. It is configured to act as a smart host. All email gets forwarded to smtp.isp.net. The server is on a network behind a firewall completely nat'd. No ports

10 Year old IT Infrastructure
Hi Guys, I have a client who hopes to keep their server another 5 years making it 10 years old at that time. At this point there are no plans to add new infrastructure or a new server to the mix. Their business model is fairly static. I'd like to see them upgrade. Can anyone suggest specific reasons why running a business on 10 year old equipment is a bad thing? Specific arguments I can

Internet Load Balancing and Failover
Hi All, Does anyone have any experience connecting two or more DSL/Cable modems to a Linux box to provide load balancing and failover? I've done some googling and found a few resources but very few solid experiences. I'm trying to optimize my LAN->Internet traffic for a bunch of workstations. Shawn

Samba, AD and non AD Machines
Hi All, I have configured Samba 3.0.23 to work with Active Directory. Based on all the tests shown here: http://us3.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/unixclients.html#adssdm Things are working as expected. Most machines and users are working as expected. I do have some Windows machines on another subnet, NOT joined to the domain that are giving me grief. Going to

VPN suggestions centos 6, 7
Folks I would like to have my windows 7 laptop communicate with my home server via a VPN, in such a way that it appears to be "inside" my home network. It should not only let me appear to be at home for any external query, but also let me access my computers inside my home. I already have this working using M$'s PPTP using my home Centos 6 gateway/router as the PoPToP server.

Problems with 2.3TB disk
Hi Guys, I have a server running CentOS 4.2 with a 2.6.9-22EL-smp kernel. The system contains a 2.3 TB RAID 5 array. There is a 20GB root partition with the remainder of the drive configured one large LVM volume. (/u0) I have installed Veritas Netbackup on the server and am running a few tests. Small backups and restores work just fine. When I run a larger backup (500MB) and store the

ACL Support and Samba
I've been playing with filesystem ACLs and wanted to integrate that with Samba to create a more transparent end user experiance. I have set up and tested a JFS partition with ACL support. I can use getfacl and setfacl with no problems to set permissions as needed. It works great. I compiled Samba with ACL support using the --with-acl configure option. Unfortunately I can't seem to

Modem network card conflict
Hi All, Here's a strange one for you... I have a Linux box with a PCMCIA adapter PCI card in it. Plugged into said card is a cellular modem card. I can configure wvdial and dial the modem card perfectly. My ppp0 interface comes up and I can ping everything. I also have a network card on the motherboard. Once again, by itself the network card works correctly. That is with the modem

Looking for Insights
Hi Guys, I had a strange problem yesterday and I'm curious as to what everyone thinks. I have a client with a Red Hat Enterprise 2.1 cluster. All quality HP equipment with an MSA 500 storage array acting as the shared storage between the two nodes in the cluster. This cluster is configured for reliability and not load balancing. All work is handled by one node or the other not both.

PDC over PPTP VPN
Hi. I'm trying to add a client running Windows XP Professional SP2 to a PDC server running Samba 3.0.13 over a VPN tunnel made with PPTP. The VPN tunnel works without problem, and I can see the shared resources on the PDC from the client searching the server with its hostname (I can access to \\server). When I try to add the client to the PDC, Windows XP ask me for the root user, but after

VPN?
Once you have Samba shares up and running on the internal network, how do you go about making them available (browsable) via the Internet--a VPN? I hate to say it but in Windows 2k it's just a matter of a few clicks on the server and client. I'm hoping that it's not much harder with a Linux server/Windows client. Anything involving something like SSH will be too hard for most users.

Authenticating PPTP users against Samba/LDAP
Hi, I have a few remote user who use a PPTP based VPN. The server is running PoPToP (http://www.poptop.org/), and a pppd patched to support MPPE/MPPC for (some) added security. Currently, users authentication information is stored in plaintext in /etc/ppp/chap-secrets. I'd like to be able to put users into LDAP, and have ppp authenticate either directly against LDAP, or against Samba (with an
