VirtualDub and enconding with DivX, XviD
Hello, I am trying to get the latest wine (Wine 20030219, fake windows) working with the GordianKnot (0.27). Unfortunately, Virtual Dub is not be able to compress a avs-file with the DivX-codec. It crashes if trying to. Also, it would be nice to compress an mpeg-source with Xvid but also it crashes. BTW, VirtualDub does not list it in its codecs window ?f "msvfw32" is set to

iterate users with passwd-file passdb?

What do you mean by "iterate"? If you mean whether you can look up a password entry in a multi-entry file, then yes, definitely. If you mean to sequentially go through it and do a first/last/best match,

confusion and frustration with zpool
I have a zpool which has grown "organically". I had a 60Gb disk, I added a 120, I added a 500, I got a 750 and sliced it and mirrored the other pieces. The 60 and the 120 are internal PATA drives, the 500 and 750 are Maxtor OneTouch USB drives. The original system I created the 60+120+500 pool on was Solaris 10 update 3, patched to use ZFS sometime last fall (November I believe). In

slow loops in Monte Carlo Simulations
Hi there, I am running Monte Carlo Simulations in R using ordinary "while (condition)" loops. Since the number of iterations is something like 100.000 and within each iteration a given subsample is extended sequentially it takes hours to run the simulation. Does anyone know if there is either a way to avoid using loops in Monte Carlo Simulations or how to include possible faster

Output to sequentially numbered files... also, ideas for running R on Xgrid
Hello, I have some code to run on an XGrid cluster. Currently the code is written as a single, large job... this is no good for trying to run in parallel. To break it up I have basically taken out the highest level for-loop and am planning on batch-running many jobs, each one representing an instance of the removed loop. However, when it comes to output I am stuck. Previously the output was

Problem with blocking workers
Hi Folks, I found this thread http://rubyforge.org/pipermail/backgroundrb-devel/2007-March/000790.html on this mailing list that describes pretty much the same behaviour that I experience as well. My problem is, that I have no chance for putting a "sleep 0" in an iteration because I have no Iteration. What I?m doing is executing a stored procedure in a sybase db that could take from

Problems with paste and blank
Hi there, I've got the following problem under Windows XP, R 2.5.1: When I'm pasting some objects: Stadtwerksname<-"Mannheim" Laufwerk<-"C:\\" paste(Laufwerk,Stadtwerksname,".csv") I get the result: [1] "C:\\ Mannheim .csv" The problem's are the superfluous gaps/blanks between the three parts. Is there a way to get rid off this

NT domain logon questions
Hi. Myself and a anti-Micro$oft companion tried to get NT domain logons working yesterday and seem pretty close, but not quite. Samba is 1.9.18alpha3, server is an Ultra-2 running SunOS 5.5.1. Encrypted passwords seem to be working, a la smbclient and mostly from NT, "mostly" because it *seemed* to be working but we did have some problems with home directories in smbpasswd changing

Help with error in "if then" statement
Dear list, I'm afraid this is a mundane question. Here's the background: I've produced a function which allows me to sequentially measure angles and distances from a specified reference point to a curve defined by empirical data points while (i.e. using a while loop) the angle being measured is within certain bounds. Because the curve is circular I need to pars the data

to remove an error with log(zero)
Dear R family I have an arbitrary column vector. 1 2 4 0 7 5 0 0 0 9 11 12 When I attempt to take natural logarithm of the series, as you guess there is an error message. To overcome this problem, my idea is to replace a zero or zeros in a row with appropriate numbers. In order to implement it, I need to detect where zeros are. Then I am going to take the average of two adjacent neighbors. In the

FastAGI Command Execution
I've noticed that with FastAGI (and maybe AGI) that when you sequentially send a sequence of dial commands, if the call is picked up, that after the call ends, the Fast AGI script keeps executing the commands! Is there anyway to stop execution once a call is picked up? I think looking at the result codes after the Dial to determine if the call was picked up or not is not a good idea... if it

readLines problem in iteration
Hi there My script at each iteration produces a .dat file which I save in a directory with write.table. Then I need to read each line of this file and create a directory for each line and put elements of that row in that directory. I do it with the following script which I have inserted somewhere between my outer iteration loop, it works fine for the first iteration, but the problem is that it

Adressing multiple cores (CPUs)
Dear all, I'm sitting here just in front of my new PC@work and wonder about the following question: * How can I adress multiple CPUs (cores) out of R to speed up the simulations I run? * What are the prerequisites to do so? Maybe anyone could give me a hint where to start reading? Regards, Thomas P.S.: I searched the R-archive to find an answer but did find none.

Iax2 ringtone problem
Hi, i have a problem with iax2 and ringtone. Here is the call path pstn -> asterisk -> iax -> firefly or any iax phone. My problem is when i receive a call on my iax phone, the ring sound is very distort and bad. If i open my sip phone, and receive a call from my pstn, the ring is like dring dring, very normal. Otherwise, it is like a machine gun with iax Help would be really
