RSQLite bug fix for install with icc
Seth, I encountered problems installing RSQLite, R-2.7.0, on RHEL4 using Intel 10.1 icc, My sysadmin helped me track down the problem and kindly forwarded me the fix, which corrected the problem. What follows is from the sysadmin. Mark I looked at the error, looks like there is a bug in the source code. I've attached a new tarball, hopefully fixed. I added #include <sys/types.h>

S4 coercion responsibility
Should functions or the user be responsible for coercing an S4 object argument containing the proper object (and thus should below be considered a bug in the packages or not)? The example is with RSQLite but the same thing happens with RMySQL, and other DBI packages. > library("RSQLite") Loading required package: DBI > m <- dbDriver("SQLite") > con <-

Compress string memCompress/Decompress
Hello, I would like to compress a long string (character vector), store the compressed string in the text field of a SQLite database (using RSQLite), and then load the text back into memory and decompress it back into the the original string. My character vector can be compressed considerably using standard gzip/bzip2 compression. In theory it should be much faster for me to compress/decompress

Data type problem when extract data from SQLite to R by using RSQLite
Hi there, When I extract data from SQLite to R, the data types (or modes) of the extracted data seems to be determined by the value of the first row. Please see the following example. When I put the missing values first, the column extracted is of the mode character. > str(dbGetQuery(sql.industry, + "select pya_var from annual_data3 + order by

How to Read a Large CSV into a Database with R
Hi, I'm working in R 2.11.1 x64 on Windows x86_64-pc-mingw32. I'm trying to insert a very large CSV file into a SQLite database. I'm pretty new to working with databases in R, so I apologize if I'm overlooking something obvious here. I'm trying to work with the American Community Survey data, which is two 1.3GB csv files. I have enough RAM to read one of them into memory,

New package RSQLite.extfuns and minor upgrade for RSQLite
RSQLite.extfuns provides SQLite extension functions for use with RSQLite. The package is a wrapper of extension functions written by Liam Healy and made available through the SQLite website (http://www.sqlite.org/contrib). You can make the extension functions available on a per db connection basis like this: library("RSQLite.extfuns") db <- dbConnect(SQLite(), dbname =

dict package: dictionary data structure for R
Hi all, The dict package provides a dictionary (hashtable) data structure much like R's built-in environment objects, but with the following differences: - The Dict class can be subclassed. - Four different hashing functions are implemented and the user can specify which to use when creating an instance. I'm sending this here as opposed to R-packages because this package will

RSQLite 0.6-7 -- changes to dbGetQuery semantics
RSQLite 0.6-7 has been uploaded to CRAN and should hit a mirror near you in the next few days. This version changes the behavior of the dbGetQuery method to make it more consistent with dbSendQuery. Specifically: 1. dbGetQuery now closes a complete result set as dbSendQuery does. 2. If there is an incomplete result set open, dbGetQuery still opens a new temporary connection, but now issues

The RSQLite version of dbGetQuery drops colums
Hi all, I just noticed (the hard way of course) that when a query returns 0 rows, the columns in the resulting data.frame get dropped as well. See the following example code (where conn is an active connection to an SQLite db): > dbGetQuery(conn, "select 1 as hey, 2 as ho where 1") hey ho 1 1 2 > dbGetQuery(conn, "select 1 as hey, 2 as ho where 0") data frame

Side-effects of require() vs library() on x86_64 aka amd64
RDieHarder fails its regression tests on x86_64 (aka "amd64") at CRAN (using Debian), and I see the same on Ubuntu 8.10 in 64 bit. No issues on 32bit. One odd thing is that the program behaves well if run via R --no-save < tests/RDieHarder.R but NOT when started using R --slave < tests/RDieHarder.R as R CMD check does. So I tried different things related to startup
