Factor Loadings in Vegan's PCA
Hi all, I am using the vegan package to run a prcincipal components analysis on forest structural variables (tree density, basal area, average height, regeneration density) in R. However, I could not find out how to extract factor loadings (correlations of each variable with each pca axis), as is straightforwar in princomp. Do anyone know how to do that? Moreover, do anyone knows

Multivariate Regression Trees: how to identify sample units?
Dear friends, I am sudying the mvpart package, that implements Multivariate Regression Trees, aiming at applying it to a biogeographical dataset of tree speces in southern South America. My doubt is how to access plot identities after the tree is produced. For us it is rather important, but I could not find them with neither 'summary(fit)'[where fit is the object containing the

Autocorrelation in R
Hi, I am trying to learn time series, and I am attending a colleague's course on Econometrics. However, he uses e-views, and I use R. I am trying to reproduce his examples in R, but I am having problems specifying a AR(1) model. Would anyone help me with my code? Thanks in advance! Trivial typo in sample help file
Hi, just found a small typo in help(sample). In 'Arguments' section, where says n: a non-negaiive integer, the number of items to choose from. should be n: a non-negative integer, the number of items to choose from. I didn't filled a bug report because this is very trivial. Thanks, -- Fernando Mayer Programa de P?s-Gradua??o em Ecologia (PPGE) Universidade Federal de Santa

Hi I have a FORTRAN version of the L-BFGS-B algorithm and I was comparing it to the code in the lbfgsb.c file available at R-4.0.0.tar.gz Everithing looks the same, except for those two lines that must be printed by the prn3lb function in case of an error (lines 3559 and 3561 in lbfgsb.c): case -5: Rprintf("l(%d) > u(%d). Is it possible to do Ripley's K and L functions analysis with R?
Dear friends, I am studying the spatial distribution of trees in a tropical swamp forest in Brazil, and the spatial association between the trees and other forest and non forest elements. These are point pattern analysis of mapped data, preferentially done with the L function of Ripley. I have recently discovererd the R-project and would like to know whether it is possible to do these

Analysis and graphics by groups
Hello, This is my first post in this e-mail list and I hope it's enough to justify calling for help. In case it's not, sorry. I'm trying to do analysis and graphics using a factor as a criteria to split data and do the analysis/graphics for each subset of data. Right now what I'm trying to do is to fit and plot the following logistic model, according to a third variable named

Can compressed music sound better than uncompressed?
I quote from "Principles of Digital Audio" by Ken C. Pohlmann: "Because perceptual coders tailor the coded signal to the ear's acuity, they similarly tailor the required response of the playback system itself. Live music does not pass through amplifiers and loudspeakers, it goes directly to the ear. But recorded music must pass through the playback signal chain. Much of the

identifying groups in xyplot
There have been posts in the past regarding similar questions, but many of them looked dated. I am using xyplot to show variability within my replicates, and so far so good, but I would like to refine the plot. I've used the code below to graph my response variable against year (coded as a factor with three levels 2009, 2010, 2011). Each replicate is in a different panel (|field). My group

How to calculate the index "the number of species combinations"?
I want to analyze the co-occurrence of some species. In some papers, the authors said that the index"the number of species combinations (COMBO)" is a good index. I try to calculate the index by R language. But I can not get the right value. I think that I do not understand the concept of the index because my english is not good. The concept: *The number of species combinations *This

POSIXct bug for conversion of specific combinations of date and time
Hello everyone, I'm having a big trouble with which seems to be a bug in as.POSIXct() date-time conversion. I have massive GPS datasets in which each location has it's own date and time attribute. As I convert them to POSIXct format, 1300 cases (of about half a million locations) simply return NA values. I picked up a small sample of failed cases and normal cases to demonstrate the

Does the R "statistical language includes modules/packages to carry out nonlinear optimization similar to the SAS NLIN and NLP procedures?
Hello R folks, I'm hoping the answer to the question in the subject line. I have in the past used SAS PROC NLIN and PROC NLP to carry out nonlinear optimizations. I'm wondering if there is analogous ways for doing this using R. If so, could someone please point me to some literature that would help me examine this further? Thanks very much.
