Implementing Silverman's Negative Reflection
Hi!
I'm trying to implement in R in an easy way the negative reflection method
described in Silverman (1986) on p.31, ie I have a non-negative dataset and
would like to estimate the density by applying a reflection method where the
reflected points have weight -1.
I thought there should be a way to evaluate the wanted kernel at the
required points, in other words to calculate formula (2.16):

KS Test question (2)
Hi R Users,
I have two vectors, x and y, of equal length representing two types of
data from two studies. I would like to test if they are similar enough
to use them interchangeably. No assumptions about distributions can be
made (initial tests clearly show that they are not normal).
Here some result:
Two-sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov test
data: x and y
D = 0.1091, p-value < 2.2e-16

greatest common divisor
Hello,
Is there a function in R with which we could find the greatest common
divisor directly?
Or is there a funciton, which could help us to find the remainder of a
division directly?
Best wishes! Thank you!
Your truly, Qing

multivariate distributions
Hi,
How can I generate data from multivariate gamma distribution & multivariate
beta distribution?
I only found command for multivariate normal only.
Many thanks in advance :)

Double Integration
Dear R helpers
I am working on the Bi-variate Normal distribution probabilities. I need to double integrate the following function (actually simplified form of bivariate normal distribution)
f(x, y) = exp [ - 0.549451 * (x^2 + y^2 - 0.6 * x * y) ]
where 2.696 < x < 3.54 and -1.51 < y < 1.98
I need to solve something like
INTEGRATE (2.696 to 3.54) dx INTEGRATE [(-1.51 to 1.98)]

Levels in returned data.frame after subset
Dear List,
When I subset a data.frame, the levels are not re-adjusted (see
example). Why is this? Am I missing out on some basic stuff here?
Thanks

Connect to server
Hi,
I am aware that this question might be a basic one.
I did browse the help and archives but I still haven't understood
how to do the following:
I run R locally and would like to read in data from a server
for which there is a username and password. That is,
how do I open a connection to a server with a password?
Thanks,

constrained optimization
Is there any R package addressing problems of constrained optimization ?
I have the following "apparently" simple problem:
Given a set V with fixed cardinality: nv
Given a set S whose cardinality is a parameter: nHat
Let the cardinality of the intersection S.and.V be: nHatv
The problem consists of maximizing nHatv/nv subject to a penalty if nHat >

Colour makes my life; but not my bwplot (panel.violin)
Using Trellis, am successfully setting up a number of panels (25) in which I
have two box and violin plots.
I would like to colour - one plot as RED and the other as BLUE (in each
panel). I can do that with the box plots, but the violin density areas just
take on one colour.
My basic call is as follows:
bwplot(rmsd ~ file | code,
data=spread_data.filtered,
panel = function(...,

Is there any function available to do stepwise selection of variables in Conditional(matched) logistic regression( clogit)? step, stepwise etc are failing in case of conditional logistic regression. Please help.

an R function to search on Prof. Baron's site
Inspired by the functions that Barry Rawlingson and Dave Forrest posted for
searching Rwiki and R-help archive, I've made up a function that does the
search on Prof. Baron's site (Thanks to Prof. Baron's help on setting up the
query string!):

Confidence interval for response variable in mixed effects models
HI,
I am using lmer() for a simple mixed effects model. The model is of the form
logit(y)~ x + (1|z), where x is an indicator variable and z a multi-level
factor.
I would like an estimate of the response variable (either y or logit y) with
an associated confidence interval for a given value of x.
There does not appear to be a predict function written for lmer().
The output for the fixed

searching Jonathan Baron's R Site
First, my site will be down December 27-28 because of a network
upgrade at Penn. It will also be down at least one day before
that, while I upgrade the operating system. (And another day
some time in January because of a planned power outage.)
Second, I have replaced the search engine in my R site:

I am now using Namazu instead of HtDig. The direct link to the

I am very new on 'R', so excuse me if I ask something wrong.

Each column has data value. Now I want to produce 2-d color maps,

ggplot2 reorder factors for faceting
Dear List
I am trying to draw a heatmap using ggplot2. In this heatmap I have faceted my data by 'infection' of which I have four. These four infections break down into two types and I would like to reorder the 'infection' column of my data to reflect this.
Toy example below:

Confidence Intervals for Odds Ratios in multivariate logistic regression
Hi all,
I am trying to fit a logistic regression for a bivariate response using five
independent variables in a stepwise procedure. My outputs look okay but does
any one know (or is there any literature on) how the confidence intervals
are calculated for the reported odds ratios..?
Thanks!
