Removing Embedded Null characters from text/html
Hi, I'm trying to download some data from the web and am running into problems with 'embedded null' characters. These seem to indicate to R that it should stop processing the page so I'd like to remove them. I've been looking around and can't seem to identify exactly what the character is and consequently how to remove it. # THE CODE WORKS ON THIS PAGE library(RCurl)

RCurl: using netrc with curlPerform
Hello, I am having trouble getting the curlPerform function to authenticate using the .netrc file. From the documentation I've read it certainly seems as though this function should be able to authenticate via the .netrc file. The example I am using here comes from the "R as a Web Client- the RCurl package" paper and demonstrates using the .netrc file to access the

USING TWO ACCOUNTS WITH BROADVOICE
Hi, I have two accounts with broadvoice. Now, I want to be able to distinguish between them. I though that this would be simple by adding "/EXTEN" at the end of the register statement. For example: register => num1:pass@sip.broadvoice.com/1000 Unfortunately, this is not working. When I call into my box I hear busy tone. My config looks like this: [root@voip asterisk]# cat sip.conf

download/retain text file structure with RCurl/getURL()
Dear list, I'm trying to download a text file directly from the internet using the RCurl package and the command getURL. Duncan Lang graciously helped me solve the first step in this problem using the following command: ################# txtfile <- getURL('ftp://ftp.wcc.nrcs.usda.gov/data/snow/snow_course/table/history/idaho/13e19.txt', ftp.use.epsv = FALSE) #################

confused by lapply
Description: 'lapply' returns a list of the same length as 'X', each element of which is the result of applying 'FUN' to the corresponding element of 'X'. I expect that when I do > lapply(vec,f) f would be called _once_ for each component of vec. this is not what I see: parse.num <- function (s) { cat("parse.num1\n"); str(s) s

Runaway icecast again (more YP issues)
Hi: The sysadmin on the system where the icecast server I more or less administer runs sent me an E-mail today saying that icecast had pushed up the system load to over 8 and that he had to kill it off. Some discussion and examination of the log files suggest that there's a problem with removing streams from the YP server. The main source on our server is on a machine that's used for
