strange strsplit gsub problem 0 is this a bug or a string length limitation?
I was working with the rmetrics portfolioBacktesting function and dug into
the code to try to find why my formula with 113 items, i.e. A1 thru A113,
was being truncated and I only get 85 items, not 113.
Is it due to a string length limitation in R or is it a bug in the strsplit
or gsub functions, or in my string?
I'd very much appreciate any suggestions

script.aculo.us: pause before effect.appear
I''ve created a simple script (below) which calls the effect.appear script in
order to make a group of items appear at the page load. I would like to have
the images randomly appear at different times; e.g. the 3rd image might
start appearing 2 seconds after load, the 6th image immediately after load,
the first image 1 second after load, etc...
How can I achieve this affect?

choosing a random sample by precentage
hi all
i have found the follwoing way to choose a random sample by sample size (200):
ten_per_T2000 <- F_T2000_All[sample(nrow(F_T2000_All), 200), ]
but i wondered if there is a way to choose a sample size by
precentage (10% etc..)

zero random effect sizes with binomial lmer
I am fitting models to the responses to a questionnaire that has
seven yes/no questions (Item). For each combination of Subject and
Item, the variable Response is coded as 0 or 1.
I want to include random effects for both Subject and Item. While I
understand that the datasets are fairly small, and there are a lot of
invariant subjects, I do not understand something that is happening

register spilling and printing live variables
Hello,
I have studied register allocation in theoretical aspects and exploring the
same in the implementation level.
I need a minimal testcase for register spilling to analyze spilling
procedure in llvm. I tried with a testcase taking 20 variables but all the
20 variables are getting stored in the stack using %rbp. Maybe my live
variable analysis is wrong. Please help me with a minimal testcase

Measuring boot time
Hi
Some time ago I wrote this mailing list about some extra time that it takes for my system to boot and I don't know where it came from.I'm using a custom BIOS which loads at 1 second and now I've found out that it takes for the bootloader and OS an extra 1 second to load when keyboard is disconnected.I got from the BIOS engineer the following explanation and steps to take:

Reading in FORTRAN data using R
Hi There:
I was wondering if there is a way to read FORTRAN list data (similar to
IDL's readf function). I often use FORTRAN for most of my number
crunching, and use something like IDL to visualize and perform
statistical analysis on that data. Since the each file is rather large
(>100 Mb), formatting the output into columns or tables is impractical,
hence the "list"
