insert eps into microsft word
it seems that word can not read encapsupalted postscripts generated by R
I used this command
postscript("output.eps",horizontal=F,onefile=TRUE)
since onefile=TRUE produces an encapsualted postscript
actually what I'm trying to do is to insert the postsript file into a
word document
since other formats like jpeg and bmp do not reproduce the same quality
like postscript

R GUI dies using postcript() in Windows XP Pro
Dear List,
My colleague has been having a problem with the following data and
plotting commands. The example below is part of a larger set of plots,
but I've isolated the problem to this example using this small dataset
(below), which kills rgui consistently. My version info

par(mfror=c(1,2))
dear list,
i have a problem using the par function.
in one graphic device i want to have two plots so i tried to use
par(mfror=c(1,2)).
of course it worked out, but the height now is twice the length of the width
for each single plot.
what i actually wanted is something like par(mfrow=c(2,2)) where only the
top (or bottom)
two plots are drawn with entire length proportions of 1 to 2 ( height 1,

layout() and postscript()
HI,
I would like to know if it's possible to create a postscript file with
multiple graphs . I'm creating some graphs by the means of a loop and I want
to save each graph in the same file (splitting making the device by the
number of graphs).
Do I have to use the par(matrix()) option, the layout() function or the
split.screen() one ?
Thanks

pretended size postscript and size of the graphic device window
Dear list members!
I've two questions concerning graphic export:
a) I want to export my graphics as PostScript files. in this way I use the postscript() function. The tricky part is that they must have a pretended size (7 x 7 cm) and an absoulte font size (10pt).
b) how can i (permanent) change the size of the graphic device window?
Best regards

Saving plots to file
Appologies if this has been addressed before, but I can't seem to find it in
the help archives.
I'm looking to do something like the following but it looks like save.plot
is deprecated.
save.plot(plot(glm1$residuals,gain,main = "Hist of residuals and
gain"),file="Desktop/hist1.png")
Thanks in advance,
Sean

problems with submitting an eps-file created in R
Dear all
I've got some problems submitting a manuscript, because I can't manage
creating the favourable eps-file of a graph created in R. The journal's
graphic requirements are as followed:
format: eps
width: max. 6 inches
resolution: min. 1000 dpi
supported fonts: Arial, Courier, Helvetica, Symbol, Times, Charcoal,
Chicago, Geneva, Georgia, Monaco, Zapf, New York

problem with legend on other graphics devices
Hi,
I have a bit of a problem with a legend in png, eps and pdf plots
produced from a custom plotting function. I was writing a little
function to produce some stock plots for a routine analysis conducted in
our lab. I have a wrapper function figures() (see below) that produces
eps, png and pdf versions of the lab output. When I draw the plot on the
X11() device the correct amount of space is

patch for textspecial and defaultfont in xfig
Hello,
The current xfig device lacks the functionality to set the
textspecial flag and use the defaultfont in xfig. This is necessary
when you want to export to xfig and use interpreted text (e.g., $
\frac{1}{e}$ gets interpreted by latex). The attached patch adds this
functionality.
Why would you like to do this?

Error in old$command == "default" : comparison (1) is possible only for

The function postscript() is creates a list called "old". the function
wants to access old$command, but old does not have a component called

Problem with figure size when embedding fonts
Dear Colleagues:
I need to make a graphic that uses the Nimbus rather than Helvetica font
family so that the font can be embedded in the encapsulated postscript
file. This is to satisfy a requirement from a journal for electronic
submission of figures. I do the following:
postscript('lowess.eps', onefile=FALSE, pointsize=18, horizontal=FALSE,
family='NimbusSan')

orientation of eps files
hello,
i have a problem with the orientation of eps files produced with the postscript() command. i have generated some eps files with R using:
postscript(file = filename, horizontal = FALSE, paper = "special", onefile = F
ALSE, height = height, width = width, pointsize = pointsize)
now, when i include these eps files into a standard paper document (ie. a4 paper, portrait orientation)

Adding pagebreaks on files???
Hi
Does anyone know if its possible to add pagebreaks to an pdf through an R
command? I'm running a loop where each session exports an pdf graph. Each
image becomes a separate file, but I would like to have them in the same
document but on separate pages.
Does anyone know a solution or workaround?
Regards, Tom

Q: obtaining non-transparent background in png
I am not understanding something about generating PNG plots.
I have tried several ways to obtain something other than a transparent
background, but nothing I've done seems to change the background.
For example:
dev.print(png, width=800, height=600, bg='red', filename='example.png')
which I thought would give a red background, simply gives the same
transparent background I

some EPS rotated in journal preview
I am trying to send a manuscript to a journal.
One of the figures build by R is in the right orientation and 4 are rotated clockwise 90 deg in the preview.
I used the right click save to PS option and I used the command line

Sweave and multiple graphs
Dear list,
I am using Sweave to build a small report. I want to produce a series of
figures, each figure containing a number of plots and then have them
included in the Sweave file.
An example would be to :
postscript(file = "ANCbwplot%03d.eps", onefile = FALSE, other options...)
oldpar <- par(mfrow = c(2,2))
....
do lots of plots to produce a number of eps files
....

postscript()-resolution
Dear users,
another question concerning graphics for publications. My favourite journal
wants .eps-graphics,
and from older postings i adapted the following code:
postscript(file="Figure1.eps", title="Figure 1", width=11.5, height=8,
paper="a4",onefile=FALSE)
However, when checking the properties of this file, it is a .ps and not a
.eps file. So, i konverted to

Publication quality graphs
Dear all,
A journal in which we wanted our manuscript published requires the
figures as a tiff, eps or PowerPoint formated. I tried converting .jpeg
files to these formats but it looses its quality both on the screen and
on paper. Could some one please help.
Thanks in advance,

How to open more windows to make more graphs at once!
Dear R users,
I have a data frame (test) including five columns of upper (numeric), lower (numeric), observed (numeric), best_sim (numeric) and stname (factor with 80 levels, each level with different length). Now I would like to write a short program to draw one graph as follow for each level of stname but I would like also to draw each time 12 graphs for the 12 levels of stname in the same
