x86_64 kernel compilation
If I can squeeze a message between the discussions on security (:-)) I have been trying to compile a kernel on an x86_64 box under CentOS4.1 and now 4.2. The problem is that neither make xconfig or make gconfig work: make gconfig * * Unable to find the GTK+ installation. Please make sure that * the GTK+ 2.0 development package is correctly installed... * You need gtk+-2.0, glib-2.0 and

Strange issue with device-mapper lib in CentOS
Hello all, a couple of weeks ago I've been installing CentOS 4.2 on a very-old server machine with MSI server board based on Intel GX440 chipset, two Xeons 500Mhz and one 1Gig of RAM. There is an AMI MegaRaid 467 installed as a storage controller, which causes some troubles with installation, as stock CenOS4 install and production kernels doesn't have older megaraid.ko module compiled,

Library
Can someone tell me where I can find glibc-2.3.3 for either x86-64 or most likely i386. My yum stuff must be broken, or I don't know how to use it cause it can't find the lib. I'm looking on the CD's also, but so far, no luck. Thanks... -- Snowman

tar vs. star vs. something-else-I-don-t-know-about
Hello all, today I've been sitting at work and upgrading a very-very-very old server with RedHat Linux 6.2 installed up to CentOS 3.8. The process went smoothly, as it is not the first time I was doing the things like this. Just after upgrading I went to rpm -qai list and got an interesting observation: there are at least two "tar" utilities installed on the system. One is tar, and

4.4 update quits unexpectedly
After 2 good updates to 4.4, my 3rd is giving me trouble. I did all 3 installs the same: yum clean all yum update python-sqlite sqlite yum yum clean all yum upgrade This one, however, quits during the header download. I get "[Errno -1] Header not complete, trying another mirror", then "[Errno 256] No more mirrors to try". I am not going thru a proxy, and I can't find

"undefined symbol: _pam_make_env"
Hello, A while ago I downloaded and compiled PAM 0.99.x and installed it over the default CentOS PAM installation. Of course, this premature decision led to root and FTP access being fully locked down and inaccessible. When I `su -`, it prints "su: incorrect password" before it gives me the chance to type a password. When I `sudo su -`, it prints "sudo: pam_authenticate:

I need glibc 2.19+ for 32 bit CentOS 6.8 or CentOS7
Hello all-- Due to a proposed changeover to build machines for a project I'm involved with, I need at least glib 2.19. Right now I have glib 2.12, and even on CentOS7-32 bit, what I see is glib 2.14. Is a higher glib available anywhere that might work with my current 6.8. I see I can download it from SourceForge but I am wondering what the results might me. I really like CentOS and would

Yum, duplicate packages, 4.3->4.4 upgrade.
Hi, I am running a CentOS 4.3 machine. I wish to move on to 4.4. My problem is that I have some 60 duplicate packages listed below. The kernel and gpg-pubkey packages are different versions of the same (none for the gpg) architecture. All the rest are a x86_64 and i[356]86 pairs. 1. Is this a problem? 2. If yes, what should I do? a) remove the duplicates (the i[356]86) and then 4.3 ->
