Dates plotting backwards
Hello, I am having a little trouble formatting my dates correctly. When I plot something using the following commands, R plots the most recent date on the left of the figure and then earlier date on the right of the figure. Given that English is read from left to right I would like to have the dates on my figure arranged in the same way. I am sure that this is something fairly simple but I was

Using ifelse and grep
Good Morning, I am trying to create a new column of character strings based on the first two letters in a string in another column. I believe that I need to use some combination of ifelse and grep but I am not totally sure how to combine them. I am not totally sure why the command below isn't working. Obviously it isn't finding anything that matches my criteria but I am not sure why. Any

Vertical subtraction in dataframes
Hello all, I have not been able to find an answer to this problem. I feel like it might be so simple though that it might not get a response. Suppose I have a dataframe like the one I have copied below (minus the 'calib' column). I wish to create a column like calib where I am subtracting the 'Count' when 'stain' is 'none' from all other 'Count' data for

Drop non-integers
Hello all, I have a fairly simple data manipulation question. Say I have a dataframe like this: dat <- as.data.frame(runif(7, 3, 5)) dat$cat <- factor(c("1","4","13","1","4","13","13A")) dat runif(7, 3, 5) cat 1 3.880020 1 2 4.062800 4 3 4.828950 13 4 4.761850 1 5 4.716962 4 6

Hydrology plots in R
Hello, I am trying to create a plot often seen in hydrodynamic work than includes a contour plot representing the water speed with arrows pointing in the direction of flow. Does anyone have any idea how I might add arrows based on wf$angle (in the example below) to the plot below? Thanks in advance! Sam library(lattice) speed <- runif(100, 0, 20) wf <- data.frame(speed) wf$width <-

Kolmogorov-Smirnov test
I got a distribution function and a empirical distribution function. How do I make to Kolmogorov-Smirnov test in R. Lets call the empirical distribution function >Fn on [0,1] and the distribution function >F on [0,1] ks.test( ) thanks for the help -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Kolmogorov-Smirnov-test-tp23296096p23296096.html Sent

Kolmogorov-Smirnov test
Hi, I have a problem with Kolmogorov-Smirnov test fit. I try fit distribution to my data. Actualy I create two test: - # First Kolmogorov-Smirnov Tests fit - # Second Kolmogorov-Smirnov Tests fit see below. This two test return difrent result and i don't know which is properly. Which result is properly? The first test return lower D = 0.0234 and lower p-value = 0.00304. The lower 'D'

Kolmogorov-smirnov test
Is the kolmogorov-smirnov test valid on both continuous and discrete data? I don't think so, and the example below helped me understand why. A suggestion on testing the discrete data would be appreciated. Thanks, a <- rnorm(1000, 10, 1);a # normal distribution a b <- rnorm(1000, 12, 1.5);b # normal distribution b c <- rnorm(1000, 8, 1);c # normal distribution c d <- rnorm(1000,

k-sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov test?
Hello, I would like to conduct a k-sample K-S test, but cannot find reference to its implementation in R. Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks, Mark [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

How to calculate p-value for Kolmogorov Smirnov test statistics?
Although I saw this issue being discussed many times before, I still did not find the answer to: why does R can not calculate p-values for data with ties (i.e. - sample with two or more values the same)? Can anyone elaborate some details about how does R calculate the p- values for the Kolmogorov Smirnov test statistics? I can understand the theoretical problem that continuous distributions do

Kolmogorov smirnov test
Hi r-users,   I would like to use Kolmogorov smirnov test but in my observed data(xobs) there are ties.  I got the warning message.  My question is can I do something about it?   ks.test(xobs, xsyn)           Two-sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov test data:  xobs and xsyn D = 0.0502, p-value = 0.924 alternative hypothesis: two-sided Warning message: In ks.test(xobs, xsyn) : cannot compute correct

kolmogorov-smirnov for discrete ordinal scale data
Hi, I was wondering whether there is an implementation of the Kolmogorov-Smirnov goodness of fit test for discrete, ordinal scale data in R - I've only managed to find the test for continuous data. Thanks! Gila

Error Bars in lattice- barcharts
Hello, I am attempting to write a script that adds error bars to a barchart. I basing my attempt heavily on the following thread: http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/e2/help/06/10/2791.html I can't seem to get around the problem that was discussed in the thread. The following example should illustrate my problem. Sorry about the messy example but I am 1) trying to make it as close as possible

modified kolmogorov-smirnov
I'm trying to use modified Kolmogorov-Smirnov test with a Normal which I don't know it's parameters. Somebody told me about the lilifor function in R, but just can't find it. Does anybody know how I can test with the modified Kolmogorov-Smirnov test? Porqu? usar una base de datos relacional cualquiera, si pod?s usar PostgreSQL?

Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, which one to use?
Hi, I have two sets of data, an observed data and generated data. The generated data is obtained from the model where the parameters is estimated from the observed data. So I'm not sure which to use either one-sample test ks.test(x+2, "pgamma", 3, 2) # two-sided, exact or two-sample test ks.test(x, x2, alternative="l") If I use the one-sample test I need to

linear model and by()
Hello R list, This is a question for anyone who has used the by() command. I would like to perform a regression on a data frame by several factors. Using by() I think that I have able to perform this using the following: > lm.r <- by(master, list(Sectionf=Sectionf, startd=startd), function(x) lm (tot.c ~ starttime, data = x)) So that is, I would like to perform separate regressions for

Selecting the first row based on a factor
Hello there, I have a situation where I would like to select the first row of a particular factor for a data frame (data example below). So that is, I would like to select the first entry when the factor1 =A and then the first row when factor1=B etc. I have thousands of entries so I need some general way of doing this. I have a minimal example that should illustrate what I am trying to do. I am

Kolmogorov Smirnov Test
I'm using ks.test (mydata, dnorm) on my data. I know some of my different variable samples (mydata1, mydata2, etc) must be normally distributed but the p value is always < 2.0^-16 (the 2.0 can change but not the exponent). I want to test mydata against a normal distribution. What could I be doing wrong? I tried instead using rnorm to create a normal distribution: y = rnorm

permutational Kolmogorov-Smirnov p-value for paired data
Dear List, I am new to R and find it very powerful. I would like to compute the permutational p-value for paired data using Kolmogorov-Smirnov, but the built-in ks.test does not have this option, unlike the t.test which has a paired=TRUE flag. Has someone written a library or a routine that does this? Alternatively, if someone could show me how to do pair-wise permutations in R, then I can
