Help constructing a find_by_sql command
Hello all. I am trying to do the equivalent of: @componentlogs = Componentlog.find(:all, :conditions => [ "cl_compname like ?", @criteria ], :offset => offset, :limit => items_per_page, :order => "cl_spr DESC" ) in a find_by_sql statement. I cannot use the build in because the adaptor isn''t quite right (OCI8) When I use it I get the following error

Loop stopping after 1 iteration
Hi all, This is a very basic question, but I just can't figure out why R is handling a loop I'm writing the way it is. Here is the script I have written: grid_2_series<-function(gage_handle,data_type,filename) series_name<-paste(gage_handle,data_type,sep="_") data_grid<-read.table(file=paste(filename,".txt",sep=""))

Cannot :order when using :offset and :limit in find
Hello all. I am using the Paginate_with_ajax code as described on the wiki but I am running into the following problem. The following code will work fine and retrieved unsorted records in a hunky dory fashion: @componentlogs = Componentlog.find(:all, :conditions => [ "cl_compname like ?", @criteria ], :offset => offset, :limit => items_per_page ) However if I try and add an

nls minimum factor error
Hi, I have a small dataset that I'm fitting a segmented regression using nls on. I get a step below minimum factor error, which I presume is because residual sum of square is still "not small enough" when steps in the parameter space is already below specified/default value. However, when I look at the trace, the convergence seems to have been reached. I initially thought I might

moving mean and moving variance functions
Hello Lets say as an example I have a dataframe with the following attributes: rownum(1:405), colnum(1:287), year(2000:2009), daily(rownum x colnum x year) and foragePotential (0:1, by 0.01). The data is actually stored in a netcdf file and I'm trying to provide a conceptual version of the data. Ok. I need to calculate a moving mean and a moving variance for each cell on the following

nls for piecewise linear regression not converging to least square
Hi R experts, I'm trying to use nls() for a piecewise linear regression with the first slope constrained to 0. There are 10 data points and when it does converge the second slope is almost always over estimated for some reason. I have many sets of these 10-point datasets that I need to do. The following segment of code is an example, and sorry for the overly precise numbers, they are just

Drawing dendrogram
Dear all, I would like to draw a dendrogram and mark some parts/branches (by using "segments") including their labels. If I draw it without specifying the length of x axix, I am able to do that (as in My dendrogram 1 of the following codes). However, if I want to specify the x axix, I am not able to draw marking line (by using "segments") including labels (as in My dendrogram

Another good optimization (for PPC only, though)
Using the PPC frsqrte and fres instructions, I got the percentage time take in the smoothing code in _vp_compute_mask() down from 13.64% to 1.88% of the running time. In my local copy of Vorbis I have a fast_math.[hc] in vorbis/lib and have a _fast_sqrt() inline in fast_math.h. If anyone else wants to try it out, it follows. I can currently encode my test file (the first 15 seconds of

Request - adding recycled "lwd" parameter to polygon
Hello dear members of R-help and R-core mailing list, I am not sure if this request is a "ticket" that should be filled somewhere outside the mailing list. If so, I apologize for not doing and would like to know where I should have filled it. And to the subject matter: I would like to use a command like this: plot(c(1,8), 1:2, type="n") polygon(1:7, c(2,1,2,NA,2,1,2),

for loop or Hmisc library trap.rule function syntax error
Hello: I am new R user stumped why the R code after this paragraph generates "Error: syntax error" messages after each of the last 2 lines. I have tried searching the manuals, Hmisc documentation, contributed manuals, help archives, and Internet. I am running R 1.7.1 under Windows 2000 (I will upgrade when my imminent OS upgrade happens). My data was successfully entered and

suggest enhancement to segments and arrows to facilitate horizontal and vertical segments
I suggest a simple enhancement to segments() and arrows() to facilitate drawing horizontal and vertical segments -- set default values for the second x and y arguments equal to the first set. This is handy, especially when the expressions for coordinates are long. Compare: Segments: < function (x0, y0, x1 = x0, y1 = y0, col = par("fg"), lty = par("lty"), --- > function

Evaluate function on a grid
I have a function in R^2, say f <- function(x,y) { ...skipped } I want to plot this function using contour, persp. wireframe, etc. I know that the function has a global minimum at (x0, y0) The naive approach is to evaluate the function on the outer product of two arrays, like this: sx <- c(seq(-3, x0, len = 100), seq(x0, 3, len = 100)[-1]) sy <- c(seq(-3, y0, len = 100), seq(y0, 3,

Trouble passing arrays to C code
Hello, I'm having more trouble with interfacing with C code. I have a function in C that will return the result of its computation as 3 arrays. The signature of the function is as follows: void lorenz_run(double x0, double y0, double z0, double h, int steps, double *res_x, double *res_y, double *res_z) The function works, as I've tested it from within C itself and the results

arrows: no vectors for "code" and "angle" parameters
I was teaching new R users to make some fun graphs. I had some arrows examples worked up we came across a problem. The arrows function ignores 2nd and following elements of vectors given as code an angle. Would you please consider 1) allowing vectors for code and angle, or 2) returning an error or warning when user mistakenly supplies a vector for those parameters? When code like this is
