Prevent indexing depending on variable
Hi guys, I''m using attachment_fu on my site to allow users to upload pictrues. Pictures can be set to only allow friends to view them. The problem I''m having is ferret is indexing the images along with their thumbnails which means I end up with a lot of broken images in the search. Also it''s indexing images whose privacy is set to 1 (friends only). How could I go about

Odd indexing issue
Hey Dave, I just contributed $100 to the ferret donation box. My project is earning no money yet (but hopefully will), for now I hope this helps you out and covers me for asking stupid questions ;). To get a distance sorted output, I am passing an array of the id field from a ferret search through to mysql in a custom select statement. SELECT ... id IN (#{ids.join(",")}) This has

indexing a document object fails
Hi, I''m trying out the example (more or less) straight from the tutorial: doc = Document.new doc << Field.new("id", "a", Field::Store::NO, Field::Index::UNTOKENIZED) doc << Field.new("title", "b", Field::Store::YES, Field::Index::UNTOKENIZED) doc << Field.new("data", "c",

Indexing fails -- _ntc6.tmp exceeds 2 gigabyte maximum
Ferret 0.9.3 Ruby 1.8.2 NOT storing file contents in the index. Only indexing first 25k of each file. Very large data set (1 million files, 350 Gb) Code based on snippet from David Balmain''s forum posts. After 6 hours, Ferret bails out with Ruby "exceeds max file size". Cache: -rw-r--r-- 1 bill bill 2147483647 2006-06-01 22:45 _ntc6.tmp -rw-r--r-- 1 bill bill 1690862924

Indexing and searching across multiple locales
Hi - I''m currently investigating support for Ferret and content that spans multiple locales. I am particularly interested in using stemming and fuzzy searches (e.g. with slop factor) across multiple locales. So far I''ve followed the online docs for implementing a Stemming Analyzer, and it is working for English terms just fine. I''ve also written a method to import data

some items not indexed properly.. how to fix?
I''ve got ferret enabled for :name and :description. One of the items it should be indexing has a name of Flow Yoga searching for ''Flow'' finds it but searching for ''Yoga'' does not. I also have Elation Yoga in the database searching for ''Elation'' finds it and searching for ''Yoga'' also finds it. Anybody know why

Index returning ids that are one less than they should be
I''m saving records to an index like so: index << {:id => id, :email => email, :contents => contents, :date => found_on} In debugging my code, it appears that whatever I set a record''s id to, when I find that record in a search, it returns the id minus 1, so if the first record I store in my database has an id of one and I store its counterpart in my index,

Indexing Speed?
Hi all, Have been looking at lucene and ferret. Have noticed that ferret takes ~463 seconds to index 200Mb of docs, whereas lucene takes ~60 seconds. I''m using the standard "get you started" sort of code provided by both libraries. My ruby code is: (abridged) @index = Index::Index.new(:path => inIndexPath) def createIndex(inRepositoryPath)

Ferret not building index successfully all of a sudden
I''ve been using acts_as_ferret for a couple of months now. Everything was going fine. Suddenly, however, when I try to rebuild my index, only 1 of the 2 models I index gets indexed correctly. Looking in the ferret_server logs, it says that both were successfully rebuilt. However, one of the indexes has no data in the folder. The other was index correctly. The odd thing is that this only

wrong indexing when I use disable ferret and ferret update i
I am using acts_as_ferret plugin. ITs working great on my local but when i put it on my textdrive server indexing is not proper. If I delete the indexes created, and search then the new set of indexes seem to work fine. But when I use ferret_create(I have do so for a new entery in my db), the whole indexing thing goes wrong. I get wrong results. Is this due to character encoding? Thanks

Ferret indexing problem through rake tasks
I''m having a weird problem. Recently, on all my environments, one of my two indexed models is not returning any results to acts_as_ferret. However, the folder is being created for it and Im not receiving any errors. On my two models, I call the following: Book.rebuild_index User.rebuild_index When I call those commands through either my live app "ruby script/server" or

"tried to use a closed index"
Sorry in advance for the newbie question. Can''t get aaf going and can''t find similarly stuck folks on this forum. I''m running Rails on my local machine in development mode. I installed ferret 0.11.0 gem, and the most recent stable aaf plugin (as of today). I''m having trouble getting the most basic functionality working. In my model Recipe, I have:

A few questions about numbers and dates
Hi, I just noticed that Ferret seems to convert every field to a string [ruby code appended for those interested], which has thwarted my attempt to format Dates (to "dd/mm/yyyy") and Floats (to "n.nn") for consumption further down the line based on the class of the field stored. I considered pre-formatting Dates and Floats prior to indexing, which would store the field

disable indexing for an object
Hi, I have a project where the user adds content to the database, but before it''s indexed they have to confirm it via email. How can I disable indexing for just one particular object, and then after confirmation let ferret know about it? - Radu -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Indexing problems 10.9/10.10
I''ve been having trouble with indexing a large amount of documents (2.4M). Essentially, I have one process that is following the tutorial dumping documents to an index stored on the file system. If I open the index with another process, and run the size() method it is stuck at 90,000 documents. Additionally, if I search, I don''t get results past an even smaller number of

Two repeatable crash bugs in Ferret proper
Hi guys! Been reading this list for a while. I have two repeatable Ferret crash bugs, both seg faults. 1. The first bug appears to seg fault Ferret when you use quotes in a search argument (eg ''file_name:"file name"'') 2. The second bug appears to seg fault Ferret when you attempt to index text with very long tokens (above 256 chars). It may have something to do with

Finding related items (like latent semantic indexing)
I''ve been trying to use Classifier::LSI to provide a means of finding ''related items'', where each item is a one line description of a product. Although on small samples the Classifier works great, it completely baulks on my current dataset of 3000 items. I''ve started to look at ferret this morning, following a post on the ruby mailing list. I''d

Ferret 0.11.4.win32 indexing speed vs Ferret 0.10.9.win32
Firstly, thanks Dave for all your hard work. Ferret Rocks!, I am just testing 0.11.4.win32 and it seems to work just fine, however the index creation phase of my app is perhaps 3x slower under 0.11.4 vs 0.10.9 Details follow: System: windows xp sp2, index on local hard disk, Ruby 1.8.6 Run #1, Ferret 0.10.9 - Reboot - Build index, 35,000 rows added in 297 seconds - Run #2, Ferret 0.11.4 -

Ferret Indexing
