trouble parsing a date using strptime()
Hi, I am having a trouble parsing dates using strptime() that I get in the format of year and week number. The data looks like this "201127" which means year 2011 and week 27. I would like to graph this using ggplot but then I get a gap between 201054 and 201101 so I thought I would just easily convert it. I tried to use strptime and as.Date and the format string of %Y%W but it seems

strange problem with strptime and date variable
Hello all, I am manipulating a large database with 70,000 records. "strptime" generates a date variable but R treats some of the values as NA. I attach a simple example below. I have spent hours on this problem. Any hint would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Edwin Sun # =======start of sample code ============= > x <- c("2005-04-02 19:03:00", "2005-04-03

Can strptime handle milliseconds or AM/PM?
I'm trying to proess date/time fields from files that were given to me to analyze. Any clues what I'm doing wrong with strptime? This seems to fail the same way under Linux or Windows. For ?strptime would it make sense to explain %OS3 somewhere besides the Examples? > # Why does %OS3 work here? > format(Sys.time(), "%H:%M:%S") [1] "16:45:19" >

strptime() keeps emitting warnings after establishing a handler with tryCatch()
Hello, I cannot reproduce this behavior and, as documented, the posted code doesn't issue warnings due to a wrong timezone but I'm running sessionInfo() R version 4.0.3 (2020-10-10) Platform: x86_64-pc-linux-gnu (64-bit) Running under: Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS Matrix products: default BLAS: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/blas/libblas.so.3.9.0 LAPACK:

LC_TIME not set correctly by Sys.setlocale() ?
Related to the following question on Stackoverflow: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/44723690/unexpected-behavior-of-sys-setlocale#44723690 It appears as if Sys.setlocale() does not update LC_TIME correctly for use in date formatting. Although R reports that LC_TIME is changed to the new setting after use of Sys.setlocale(), as.Date() still uses the old settings. The only way to update this is

strptime() keeps emitting warnings after establishing a handler with tryCatch()
Dear list members, I have come about a peculiar behavior in R (4.0.2) which I would describe as a bug. On macOS, where `strptime()` raises a warning for invalid timezone identifiers, the following code will continue to raise the original warning with every subsequent call to `strptime()`: ``` # attach a handler for warnings for this call only: tryCatch(strptime('2020-10-31 18:30', format

Error: Cannot Coerce POSIXt to POSIXct when building package
A newbie here - please forgive me if this is a basic question. We have an in house package built in R 2.2.1 (yes we're a little behind the times at our firm)and would like to rebuild it using R 2.5.1. However, when I try and build the package from source, I keep getting this error: Error in as(slotVal, slotClass, strict = FALSE) : no method or default for coercing "POSIXt"

difference in sort order linux/Windows (R.2.11.0)
Dear R users, I'm a bit perplexed with the effect sort has here, as it is different on Windows vs. linux. It makes my factor levels and subsequent plots different on the two systems. Given: types <- c("PC-D-Euro-0", "PC-D-Euro-1", "PC-D-Euro-2", "PC-D-Euro-3", "PC-D-Euro-4", "PC-D-Euro-5", "PC-D-Euro-6",

Timezone issue with strftime/strptime and %z and %Z
Hello! I've been trying to get this right for quite a while now and fear there is an easy solution I just don't see. I did not have this problem in Linux, and I searched r-help and Google but did not find a solution, but of course I am grateful for and resources I might not have found our not understood yet. I try to parse a time stamp with time zone. I essentially just want to parse the

can't merge zoo ojects and convert to ts (been trying for 2 days)
I'm stuck, but am sure it can be done I just don't understand how. I have data in an irregular timeseries. I want to be able to use stl to visualise the data (see seasonal parts etc), so I need to change to regular series of class ts (I think). I am using 2 zoo objects one is regular and the other is my irregular data. I am then merging to create the object I want but when I try to change

Can strptime handle milliseconds or AM/PM?
Readers, Responding to an old post (http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/e2/help/07/06/18850.html), and using the example in the manual: monthextract<-strptime("20/2/06 11:16:16.683", "%m") monthextract [1] NA Why is the result 'NA' and not '2'? -- r2151

Running strptime against all dates from around 1946, only 5/3/1992 was converted as "NA". Even stranger, it still seems to have a value associated with it (even though is.na thinks

problem with unlist POSIX date at midnight
Dear R-users, I use unlist of POSIX dates to extract the year, hour etc. With that I can search for files in my database which are in the form 'yyyymmddhh_synops.txt' However, I get stucked during midnight where unlist just gives NA's. The script is given below, the problem accurs at acc.period[16] (midnight). However when I write out the character, unlist works well. But

POSIX primer
I have not used POSIX classes previously and now have a need to use them. I have sports data with times of some athletes after different events. I need to perform some simple analyses using the times. I think I've figured out how to do this. I just want to confirm with others who have more experience that this is indeed the correct approach. If not, please suggest a more appropriate way.
