question on maximum of each row of the matrix
Hi,
I used the apply()function to compute the maximum of the each row of
the matrix, but in my application sometime the matrix has just one row,
and the apply() dosen't work.
Could you please give me some hints?

Hi,
I am making some intensive simulations for the testing of a Population Monte
Carlo algorithm. This involves also a study of the CPU times in two different
case.
What I am trying to measure is the "real" CPU time, the one which is independent
on the %CPU.
I'm using the

graphics site
About six months ago there was a reference to a site (in french) that
did a spectacular job of demonstrating R's graphical capabilities.
My bookmarks were recently wiped and I cannot find this site despite my
best googling.
Anyone have the address which I have done a miserable job describing?
Thanks.

How to plot multiple graphs?
Dear R helpers,
I have following data.frame giving asset class (i.e. bank, corporate,
sovereign etc. as there could be number of classes) and rating-wise default
frequency.
I need to plot graphs for each of these classes i.e. bank, corporate and
sovereign where I will be plotting ratings (AAA, AA, etc) on the x-axis and
their respective default probabilities on Y-axis.
I have tried to write a

A question about data frame
A very simple question. With a data frame like this:
> n = c(2, 3, 5)
> s = c("aa", "bb", "cc")
> df = data.frame(n, s)
I want df$s[1] or df[1,2], but how can I get rid of the extra line in
the output about the factor levels:
> df$s[1]
[1] aa
Levels: aa bb cc
Thanks,

Adding data to existing plot with new=TRUE does not appear to work
Dear all,
I am trying to shove a number of cmdscale() results into a single plot
(k=1 so I'm trying to get multiple columns in the plot). From ?par I
learned that I can/should set new=TRUE in either par() or the plot
function itself. However with the following reduced code, I get only a
plot with a column of data points with x==2.
plot(1,10, xlim=range(0,3), ylim=range(0,10),

Overlay Boxplot with scatter plot
I am trying to make a box plot and overlay it with a scatter plot from
another data.frame. I was able to successfully create the boxplot, but
when i tried using points(x~y...) the dots did not show up.
example code
aa<-(300,300,300,300,600,600,600,600,900,900,900,900)
bb<-(13,12,14,11,56,44,34,75,22.,34,22,98,59,55,56)
cc<-(13,12,14,11,56,44,34,75,22.,34,22,98,59,55,56)

two graphs
Dear R community,
I am plotting a histogram and would wish to display another variable of
the same dataset in a very narrow heatmap just below the x-axis. Never mind
the specifics of my task: How can I draw a second graph/image just below a
first graph/image?
Thank you!
Georg.

chi-squared test
I don't quite understand the difference between the two methods for
performing a chi-squared test on contingency tables: summary(table())
and chisq.test()
They may different results. E.g.:

bb <- as.factor(c(1,2,2,2,1,2,1,2,2,2,1,2,2,2,1,1,1,2,1,1))

bb <- c(bb, bb)

Counting Frequencies in Data Frame
Hi,
I am sure there is an easy way to do it, but I can't find it.
I have a data frame that has 15 columns and 7000 rows.
The only values inside the data.frame are "aa", "ab", "bb" as you can see an
example bellow.
1 2 3
1 aa ab ab
2 ab ab ab
3 aa aa aa
4 bb bb bb
What I would like to do, is to generate a vector (or another data.frame)
with 7000 rows, and 3
