Processing large datasets
Hi R list, I'm new to R software, so I'd like to ask about it is capabilities. What I'm looking to do is to run some statistical tests on quite big tables which are aggregated quotes from a market feed. This is a typical set of data. Each day contains millions of records (up to 10 non filtered). 2011-05-24 750 Bid DELL 14130770 400 15.4800 BATS

[Fwd: Re: the mgcv package can not be loaded]
Sorry, I forgot to be more specific. I am using Windows XP. I am using R.12.2 I installed both packages from the install packages menu. I always write library(name.of.library), and it is enough. But when I write library(nlme), R does not find nlme right away I load nlme first and it says package was downloaded succesfully. However, when I try to do this again in another day, R cannot find

Transfer R workspace on another PC
Hi list! I have recently tried to take my office work home, meaning that I tried to transfer my "... .RData" workspace from my PC on my laptop. The office PC runs on Windows XP and my laptop runs on Windows Vista. I have saved the workspace at the office PC and kept it in a usb drive. When I tried to open it on my laptop I got an error: "Fatal Error: Unable to restore saved data in

Running Shell Script with R
I'm having some trouble getting my shell script to work. I've checked out the Intro to R Manual and a host of other websites, but I still can't get the script to work when I submit the job to the cluster. Here is my main R code: ##Load Libraries ##... ## Load Time Data Args <- commandArgs(trailingOnly = TRUE); print(Args); timeDat <- read.flowSet(files=NULL, path=Args[1]);

"Dumb" proxying?
I'm a database noob, and it really seems like it would be overkill for my setup: I just want to proxy all connections from my DMZ to my internal mail server -- same internal server for all users. I used to use perdition for this set up, but am having issues getting it to play nicely with my new servers. Can I bypass all of the SQL stuff and just have dovecot forward all POP/IMAP

Commands failing silently?
Hello all: I have a couple CentOS 4 servers (all up-to-date) that are having strange command failures. I first noticed this with a perl script that uses lots of system calls. Basically, sometimes a command just won't run: thoth(52) /tmp> ls thoth(53) /tmp> ls thoth(54) /tmp> ls thoth(55) /tmp> ls learner lost+found/ thoth(56) /tmp> ls learner lost+found/ thoth(57)

R 2-14.0 locking up
Dear R People: I'm working with R-2.14.0 created from source on a quad core Windows 7 machine. Starting yesterday, nearly everything I run just sits. When I hit escape or Ctrl C, nothing happens. Has anyone run into this, please? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks, Erin -- Erin Hodgess Associate Professor Department of Computer and Mathematical Sciences University of

A very simple question
Hi all, My apologies for a very simple question. I just downloaded R 2.6.0. I want to bring in all of the objects from 2.5.0 that I see when I type ls(). I have no idea how to do that. Thanks in advance. EOF within quoted string
Yes. I tried that already. Not straightforward. data <- read.csv("20_newsgroups.csv",fill=TRUE,as.is=T,header=F, quote="", sep=",", encoding="UTF-8") This line does read it haphazardly. The emails in the column are split into multiple columns and there are several columns with just ?NA?. Totally 202 columns. And then I removed columns with NA?s and

Hi, Reading http://ssc.wisc.edu/~ahanna/20_newsgroups.csv after downloading it using data <- read.csv("20_newsgroups.csv",header=TRUE) throws this. Warning message: In scan(file, what, nmax, sep, dec, quote, skip, nlines, na.strings, : EOF within quoted string So, for example, the first line in the file is this. This column contains only such text. Is there a way read it ?

locking problems with RHEL 3 and dovecot
I just migrated from a FreeBSD/Sendmail/UW-IMAP setup to RHEL 3/Postfix/Dovecot (1.0a5 currently). Both systems used Procmail as the final delivery agent (into inboxes or . Since the changeover, things have *mostly* been going ok, but I've been having some problems that I think are locking-related. I'm getting reports from users about IMAP hangs (mostly from Thunderbird). Sometimes I see

As a package author, is there a way to specify that your package is architecture (x86_64) specific?
Hi, Essentially: subject line says it all. I've created a package that wraps an external c++ library (which I didn't write) that only successfully compiles on 64bit machines. I'd like to make the package broadly available, but is there a way to get it on CRAN if the 32-bit builds break by specifying its 64-bit only somehow? Luckily, I've ./configure'd my

(PR#4450)
Hello, When I use det() and qr() on complex matrices the result is in some cases indeterministic. The documentation speaks of numeric matrices (and not of complex matrices) but det() uses qr() which should handle complex matrices correctly. I've also tried using only qr() with similar results. det() returns a value that is not the determinant of the complex matrix (in accordance with

I'm running a Samba PDC at home (v2.2.5, recently upgraded from v2.2.3 in an attempt to solve this problem) on RedHat 7.3. But, I want to mount a couple shares from the domain clients to the server, and that works just fine except for one client. fujisawa(6) ~> smbmount
