Newbie Questions - Yum, etc.
Hi All: My name is Peter J. Mignone and I have a little Linux experience. From what I have read about CentOS, it appears very interesting so I am trying it out. I get a header.info error when I tried yum which I have never used. How do you set up yum? Where do you point it, etc.? If my understanding is correct about the licensing, I should turn off anything pertaining to the Red Hat Network.

How to create an R RPM from source
I use some computers that run older versions of Redhat Linux such as EL3. RPMs for the current version of R are no longer provided via CRAN for these older operating system versions. How can I compile my own RPM for the current version of R, which I could then use to install R quickly and easily on multiple machines? Perhaps the answer to this would be a useful addition to the manual R

Disable SSLv3 in sendmail in CentOS 5
RedHat released sendmail-8.13.8-10.el5_11.src.rpm which includes sendmail-8.13.8-ssl-opts.patch which adds support for disabling SSLv3 and SSLv2 in sendmail.cf But as far as I can see there is no support in sendmail.mc - I can't see how to compile sendmail.mc to get the required line ServerSSLOptions in sendmail.cf Does anyone know how to do this ? -- Andrew Daviel, TRIUMF, Canada

I am scratching my head about sendmail for a simple thing: I have a CentOS 4 box on which I would like to receive e-mails. when I type 'telnet localhost 25' I can connect successfully to the sendmail service. Now if I type: 'telnet 192.168.0.30 25' on the same host the connection is refused. It also refuses connections from another host. I have edited the

Hi all, I set my sendmail.mc file to have a SMART_HOST entry of mail.xyz.com I do "make" and "service sendmail restart" ... I should be good, but no. :) If I do "host mail.xyz.com" I get the correct address and if I "telnet mail.xyz.com 25" I get a connection. however when I do a test mail - its trying to RELAY to another host. Configuring sendmail in a corporate environment
I have a stock CentOS 5 system as far as email (sendmail) is concerned that is on our corporate LAN. I am not trying to set up a mail server; I merely want our CentOS systems to be able to send out emails. This works as long as the recipient's domain is our local domain. Any email send to recipients that are not in our local domain get stuck in the queue: # mailq

CentOS 5 & sendmail configuration
I'm attempting to configure sendmail to relay outgoing mail to an internal smtp server. I found that the commented line in sendfile.mc that starts with 'dnl define(`SMART_HOST'... needed to be uncommented and a valid value inserted. No problem there, but when I attempt to 'make -C /etc/mail', I get WARNING: 'sendmail.mc' is modified. Please install package

Sendmail conf
A long time ago someone helped me with setting up sendmail to simply queue and relay mail. They suggested: 1) edit /etc/sysconfig/sendmail and set "DAEMON=no" 2) edit /etc/mail/submit.mc and set FEATURE(`msp', `[IP.of.relayhost]')dnl Given the sendmail-cf RPM is already installed a "service sendmail restart" is enough to a light, direct submitting sendmail

Sendmail Configuration Problem - 550 5.1.1 - User unknown Problem
Hi, I'm having this Sendmail configuration problem and stuck. I've been doing googling/reading posts and none of the solutions matched my problem. I'm doing some testing, and have been getting this 550 5.1.1 ....User unknown error when I send the email to my company's email address. When I send it to an external email address, such as yahoo, the message delivered successfully.

sendmail many emails
I was getting MANY emails from XXX.hinet.net - kind of filled my mqueue directory. I stopped sendmail. removed all the files in mqueue, added to sendmail access a REJECT for hinet.net This certainly seems to help - but is that the correct way to take care of this sort of thing? Thanks, Jerry
