Pedigree / Identifying Immediate Family of Index Animal
I have a data frame containing the Id, Mother, Father and Sex from about
10,000 animals in our colony. I am interested in graphing simple family
trees for a given subject or small number of subjects. The basic idea is:
start with data frame from entire colony and list of index animals. I need
to identify all immediate relatives of these index animals and plot the
pedigree for them. We're

If row numbers can be dispensed with, then tidyr makes this easy with
the unnest function:

Problem with names() in a plot after ordering a data.frame. Syntax or stupidity?
I am a complete newbie in R .
Using R 2.2.0 Windows XP
This started as a simple exercise to see if I could
produce a simple
Cleveland style dotchart with a line from the '2' axis
to the dot rather
than a continuous line as do "dotchart" and
"dotchart2". At least I could not
find that option.
I got a crude program to work but it includes
unnecessary steps.

Solve system of equations (nleqslv) only returns origin
I'm solving 4 complex equations simultaneously. Code is below. The code
returns only zero's for the solution though there should also be a non-zero
result. I'm pretty confident that the equations are correct because they
are straight from a published paper and I checked them pretty thoroughly.
The parameter values I used are from the published paper as well. Any
suggestions for how

In this email to the R-help list: https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-help/2017-June/447474.html

OOP like handling of lists?
Hello,
I am writing a package with a collection of several models. In order to
allow users to play interactively with the models (in contrast to
hacking lengthy scripts), I want to put all what is needed to run a
particular model into a single list object for each model.
Then there will be a collection of functions to run the model or to
modify parameters, time steps, integration method ...,

Our group is also working on implementing the use of R for pharmacokinetic compartmental analysis. Perhaps I have missed something, but

parse/eval and character encoded expressions: How to deal with non-encoding strings?
Hi,
I am intending to save a path-describing character object in a slot of a
class I'm working on. In order to have the option to use "system.file" etc
in such string-saved path definitions, I wrote this
ExpressionEvaluator <- function(x){
x <- tryCatch(
expr=base::parse(text=x),
error = function(e){return(as.expression(x))},
finally=TRUE)
return(x)
}

One key is adjustment of nls optimizer tolerance. I notice it has to be
higher than usual, but, I recovered your noisy "known" parameter values
with an error of K1 (-7%) and k1 (-6%):

odesolve/lsoda differences on Windows and Mac
Hi -
I am getting different results when I run the numerical integrator
function lsoda (odesolve package) on a Mac and a PC. I am trying to
simulating a system of 10 ODE's with two exogenous pulsed inputs to the
system, and have had reasonably good success with many model parameter
sets. Under some parameter sets, however, the simulations fail on the
Mac (see error message below). The

help about solving two equations
I have two matrix s1 and s2, each of them is 1000*1.
and I have two equations:
digamma(p)-digamma(p+q)=s1,
digamma(q)-digamma(p+q)=s2,
and I want to sovle these two equations to get the value of x and y, which are also two 1000*1 matrices.
I write a program like this:
f <- function(x) {
p<- x[1]; q <- x[2];
((digamma(p)-digamma(p+q)-s1[2,]) )^2 +((digamma(q)-digamma(p+q)-s2[2,]) )^2

How to create a data.frame "like" another, but longer?
Hello,
does anyone know of a quick way to create a data frame "like" another, but
with more rows?
What I'd like to do is this:
if mydata is a data.frame like
a b c
1 TRUE yes
2 FALSE no
3 TRUE yes
I'd like to get mydata2 with the same column names and column types, but
without the values and with more rows.
All I could think of was to manually do
