Trivial patch for merge.Rd
Hi all,
After replying to r-help earlier today on the merge() related thread, I noted a trivial grammatical error in the description for the 'suffixes' argument in it's help file.
A patch against the current SVN trunk version of merge.Rd in ..library/base/man is attached and pasted here:

Computing loop trip counts with Scalar evolution
Hello.
I tried to get the trip count of a loop with Scalar evolution. I got inspired from
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/13834364/how-to-get-loop-bounds-in-llvm .
However the analysis described there doesn't work well for the second inner loop of
thes function below (although if we declare Bcols a short it works well):

sink() and source()

I have a problem running a R script actually I'm using source() and sink() and it doesn't work

merge() generates a factor: bug?
Hello,
When I merge two dataframes, each created by read.table and containing no
factors, the result has columns which have been converted to factor. I think
this is a bug (and may be related to some fixed bugs, eg PR#1102, PR#1121), but
will await comments before submitting. Also, I'm not sure if the bug is in
merge() or in read.table(). I am using R-1.4.0 patch 1/13/02 on Solaris 2.6.

Matrix interesting question!
hi,
I have been trying to do this in R (have implemented it in Excel) but I have
been using a very inefficent way (loops etc.). I have matrix A (columns are
years and ages are rows) and matrix B (columns are birth yrs and rows are
ages)
I would like to first turn matrix A into matrix B
And then I would like to convert matrix B back again to the original matrix

lme4 and false convergence
Dear R-users,
I am using the most updated package of lme4 (lme4_0.999375-2). I have a
data set consisting of ~900 observations at ~440 independent survey
sites. There are an unbalanced number of surveys at each site. I am
attempting to develop several models evaluating the presence/absence of
a species (PRES) at these random sites (SITE) using a number of

Hello. I came across your response in an R forum and could use your help. I have a data set with 472 rows. I want to delete rows 416 through 472. The name of my data set is MERGE.

Spatial join – optimizing code
Hi,
Few days ago I have asked about spatial join on the minimum distance between 2 sets of points with coordinates and attributes in 2 different data frames.
Simon Knapp sent code to do it when calculating distance on a sphere using lat, long coordinates and I've change his code to use Euclidian distances since my data had UTM coordinates.
Typically one data frame has around 30 000 points

Version 2.7.2 GUI acts awkward?
hi,
I am running R 2.7.2 Windows - recently the GUI-windows (for example to
"change directory" or "read in R-scripts") do not open - well, they
open, but close down directly afterwards. I can't select a directory or
file ...
I tried re-installing R - same problem again.
does anybody have an idea?

R2WinBUGS awkward to use
Hi All
Does anyone know if I can avoid to use the write.model() function below? I dont
want to do this. Can't bugs() do that automatically for me just by specifying
the 4th argument 'model'? Just I like I am also using the 'inits' object!
If I use 'model' in the same way as I use 'inits' I am getting the error:

Awkward escaping with five backslashes within \code{ } in new parse_Rd
Hi R-devels,
I noticed that you are working quite actively on the new Rd-parser
and have made it the default renderer in R-2.10.0dev. So I would
like to come back on an issue I have already raised on this list
last November
("Two minor escaping issues using \preformatted{....} in Rd format")
My setting has slightly changed as \preformatted, AFAICS is not
supported within \describe

seq(2,5,-2) not an error but NULL

This may belong more to r-develop, but general discussion may be useful
(for the how many-th time ?)
seq(2,5,-2)
seq(5,2,2)
both result in
Error in seq.default(2, 5, -2) : wrong sign in 'by' argument
But often, if not always, mathematicians and programmers want a
behaviour e.g. in for loops, where this statement results in an empty
statement, that is

This two-part patch for supermin implements device trees (for ARM).
The first patch introduces a more rational way to handle command line
