C-statistic comparison with partially paired datasets
Does anyone know of an R-function or method to compare two C-statistics
(Harrells's C - rcorr.cens) obtained from 2 different models in
partially paired datasets (i.e. some similar and some different cases),
with one continuous independent variable in each separate model? (in a
survival analysis context)?
I have noticed that the rcorrp.cens function can be used for paired data.
Thanks

hdf-files
Dear All,
I have data in HDF file format and would like to read it into R.
I have tried the package hdf5 without success.
Any ideas and suggestions??
Kind regards,
Katrin

Different output from lm() and lmPerm lmp() if categorical variables are included in the analysis
I've found a problem when using
categorical variables in lmp() from package lmPerm
According to help(lmp): "This function will behave identically to lm()
if the following parameters are set: perm="", seq=TRUE,
center=FALSE.")
But not in the case of including categorical variables:
require(lmPerm)
set.seed(42)
testx1 <- rnorm(100,10,5)

Plotting an Underbrace in R
I need to include some mathematical expressions in a plot I am creating in
R, one of which requires an underbrace, which in LaTeX would be written like
\underbrace{T \cdots T}_{n times}
There does not appear to be a provision for this in plotmath, and I cannot
find anything on the topic in the R-help archive or in a Google search. I
would appreciate some help with this.

short-term postdoc/scientific programmer position
Dear All,
A short-term (approx. 6-month) postdoctoral or scientific programmer
position is available in a computational sciences project in Amsterdam.
The title is dependent on experience. The starting date should be before
the end of 2008, and applicants must be a citizen of a member state of the
European Union.
The ideal applicant would:

new package 'bvls', update of 'nnls'
A new package 'bvls' is available on CRAN.
The package provides an R interface to the Stark-Parker algorithm for
bounded-variable least squares (BVLS) that solves A x = b with the
constraint l <= x <= u under least squares criteria, where l,x,u \in R^n,
b \in R^m and A is an m \times n matrix.
The Stark-Parker BVLS algorithm was published in
Stark PB, Parker RL (1995).

Task View for Chemometrics and Computational Physics
Dear All,
A new task view "ChemPhys" on chemometrics and computational physics is
available on CRAN (http://cran.r-project.org/web/views/ChemPhys.html).
It describes packages and functions that are of use in modeling
chemical/physical systems.
Suggestions and comments regarding this task view are welcome. If you
think a new category, package or function should be added, please mail.

calculate slope of line
Dear All,
I fear that this is a really easy question but I do seem to go around in
circles..
I have 2 points on a plot and would like to calculate the slope of the
line drawn through these 2 points.
that cant be so hard?!
Thank you in advance,
Katrin

lmPerm p-values and multiple testing
I've started using lmPerm in order to perform regressions in R. The
equation I want to fit has the form:
out3 <- lmp(outcome ~ bin1 + bin2 + cont1 + cont2, perm="Exact")
Where "outcome" is a non-normally distributed continuous variable, and bin*
and cont are binary and continuous regressors (similarly, they are
non-normally distributed). Each variable has a length of
