lunar notation in crontab
Crontab offers many refined facilities for Western calendaring, but none for traditional Eastern-- lunar-- designations. So for example, if one wants specify regular occurring events on full moons or on new moons, there is no way to do this. Emacs (a text processor!?) accomplishes this. The math for calculating lunar calendaring is already available; mathematical functions are already

Programming Problem (for loop, random # control, 3 dimentional graph)
Dear List, This is just a programming problem which i cannot seem to figure out. I am trying to get a set of power from a test (say, kolmogorov smirnov) out of a distribution (say, G-K distribution) as follows. I am trying to reduce to pain of writing the whole set of data points (p# below) using "for" loop. However, I seem to have some problem in it as the output "M" does not

sample(c(0, 1)...) vs. rbinom
Greetings.? My wife is teaching an introductory stat class at UC Davis.? The class emphasizes the use of simulations, rather than mathematics, to get insight into statistics, and R is the mandated tool.?? A student in the class recently inquired about different approaches to sampling from a binomial distribution.? I've appended some code that exhibits the idea, the gist of which is that using

Normalized Y-axis for Histogram Density Plot
I have the following data which I tried to draw the probability density plot. Here is the code I have: x <- read.table("mydat.txt"); d <- rep(x$V2,times=x$V3); hist(d,probability=T, xlab="FlowSignal"); But why the y-axis range from 0 to 6, instead of 0 to 1? What's the correct way to plot it? #id flowsignal frequency 1 0.67 1 1 0.70 1 1

using stepAIC with negative binomial regression - error message help
Dear List, I am having problems running stepAIC with a negative binomial regression model.  I am working with data on manta ray abundance, using 20 predictor variables.  Predictors include variables for location (site), time (year, cos and sin of calendar day, length of day, percent lunar illumination), oceanography (sea surface temp mean and std, sea surface height mean and std), weather (cos

x and y lengths differ
I have a problem with R. I try to compute the confidence interval for my df. When I want to create the plot I have this problem: Error in xy.coords(x, y, xlabel, ylabel, log) : 'x' and 'y' lengths differ. I try this code: library(dplR) df.rwi <- detrend(rwl = df, method = "Spline",nyrs=NULL) write.table(df.rwi,file="rwi.txt",quote=FALSE,row.names=TRUE)

clustering fuzzy
hello, i'm pete ,how can i order rows of matrix by max to min value? I have a matrix of membership degrees, with 82 (i) rows and K coloumns, K are clusters. I need first and second largest elements of the i-th row. for example 1 0.66 0.04 0.01 0.30 2 0.02 0.89 0.09 0.00 3 0.06 0.92 0.01 0.01 4 0.07 0.71 0.21 0.01 5 0.10 0.85 0.04 0.01 6 0.91 0.04 0.02 0.02 7 0.00 0.01 0.98 0.00 8 0.02

simple intro to cluster analysis using R
I am looking for simple introduction to cluster analysis using R, that would be understandable to a novice in statistics. Or, could someone perhaps help me understand how to proceed in my analysis? I am very new to both statistics and R, but am trying hard to avoid having to use SPSS as everyone around me... I have dataset on people presenting their opinions on different religious

Group permission
Hi Guys, I have a Debian Lenny that acts as the PDC server of my network. This server has some shares that are accessed for different groups of users. So, when an user creates or changes a folder/file inside that shares, the folder/file has its group changed to the primary group of the user that have made the changes on it. How can I determine to which group this folder/file will belong at the

Generating all possible models from full model
Is there a function that will allow me to run all model iterations if I specify a full model? I am using information criteria to choose between possible candidate models. I have been writing out all possible model combinations by hand, and I am always worried that I am missing models or have made a mistake somewhere. It is also difficult to alter models if I want to change a term. For example,

Routes
hi all, I want to move some routing tasks out of the router and into the controller. The goal is to make Merb feel less like mod_rewrite and give the user more control at the controller. The new Router is simple: it takes the path_info (not the whole request) then outputs a controller class and some parameters from the path matching. The rest of the routing would be done at the controller level.
