Festival Woes
Asterisk v1.0 is running on RH 9. I installed festival RPM (festival-1.4.2-16.i386.rpm) and edited the festival.scm file to add: (define (tts_textasterisk string mode) "(tts_textasterisk STRING MODE) Apply tts to STRING. This function is specifically designed for use in server mode so a single function call may synthesize the string. This function name may be added to the server safe

glmmPQL: Na/NaN/Inf in foreign function call
I'm using glmmPQL, and I still have a few problems with it. In addition to the issue reported earlier, I'm getting the following error and I was wondering if there's something I can do about it. Error in logLik.reStruct(object, conLin) : Na/NaN/Inf in foreign function call (arg 3) ... Warnings: 1: Singular precistion matrix in level -1, block 4 (...) 4: "" The

glmmPQL / "system is computationally singular"
Hi, I'm having trouble with glmmPQL from the MASS package. I'm trying to fit a model with a binary response variable, two fixed and two random variables (nested), with a sample of about 200,000 data points. Unfortunately, I'm getting an error message that is difficult to understand without knowing the internals of the glmmPQL function. > model <- glmmPQL(primed ~

Asterisk not working with Festival
Hello, I am having a Mac 10.6.4 (Snow Leopard). I have compiled and built Asterisk 1.6.2.9 and Festival 2.0.95:beta on my machine. Asterisk is working fine with SIP channels without Festival. I have written following context in extension.conf: [connect-to-me] exten => s,1,Answer Exten => s,n,SayDigits(?1?) exten => s,n,Festival(hello john) exten => s,n,Hangup I use call files to

Practical work with logistic regression
Dear all, I have a couple of short noob questions for whoever can take them. I'm from a very non-stats background so sorry for offending anybody with stupid questions ! :-) I have been using logistic regression care of glm to analyse a binary dependent variable against a couple of independent variables. All has gone well so far. In my work I have to compare the accuracy of analysis to a C4.5

Training parameters for a HMM
Hi, I'm a newbie to the world of HMMs and HMMs in R. I've had a look at the hmm package and the RHmm package but I couldn't see anything straightforward on how a labelled sequential dataset with observed values and underlying states might be used to construct and train a HMM based on that data and no pre-computed values for the transition, emission or initial state distributions. Does

ANOVA of a sort
Dear R Help, I have a general question - I know this is the R list, but I hope someone can help me out a little as I've always found the help here to be absolutely fantastic. I have run a psychological study where participants are given multiple stimuli and their responses to those stimuli are measured on the same numerical scale, i.e., the data is something like Participant Stimulus

Newbie-ish question on iteratively applying function to dataframe
Hi, I am trying to recursively apply a function to a selection of columns in a dataframe. I've had a look around and from what I have read, I should be using some version of the apply function, but I'm really having some headaches with it. Let me be more specific with an example. Say I have a data frame similar to the following A x y z r1 r2 r3 r4 0.1 0.2 0.1

[LLVMdev] Getting lld to compile on Mac OS X Lion
Hi, What are the steps I have to follow to compile lld on a mac? I've compiled and installed llvm+clang+libc++, but clang won't use the updated version that I installed in /usr/local/ If I just hack it and put the updated headers in lld's directory, it will compile it, so I suppose it's the libc++ that's bundled with Mac OS X that is too old. The steps I took were: compile

MITOOLS: Error in eval(expr, envir, enclos) : invalid 'envir' argument
R-users & helpers: I am using Amelia, mitools and cmprsk to fit cumulative incidence curves to multiply imputed datasets. The error message that I get "Error in eval(expr, envir, enclos) : invalid 'envir' argument" occurs when I try to fit models to the 50 imputed datasets using the "with.imputationList" function of mitools. The problem seems to occur

lme4 install trouble
After upgrading to R 2.6.0, I'm having trouble running lmer: model <- lmer(primed ~ log(dist.time)*role + 1|target.utt, data=data.utts) Error in UseMethod("as.logical") : no applicable method for "as.logical" So I thought I'd upgrade lme4 to the latest version, but unfortunately the compilation fails - perhaps there's a missing #include: R CMD INSTALL

Festival and Asterisk - different voices?
Just curious to know if anyone uses Festival with * and whether or not you've got a different voice than the default. I'm looking at doing a commercial application but my boss doesn't want to shell out the $ before we do some real world testing of * and Festival. Specifically, I'm looking for a female voice, preferably US English. Any suggestions? Thanks, MC

Festival Issues
Hey All, I now have Festival compiled, installed and running using the instructions on the Wiki page. When I try to change the voice that is being used however, I am running into a problem. I get the following in the festival server log: Cannot open file /tmp/est_10877_00000/utt.wav as tokenstream Wave load: can't open file "/tmp/est_10877_00000/utt.wav" Cannot load wavefile:

[LLVMdev] Tablegen bug???
Should tablegen detect this as an error, or is it documented as a limitation somewhere that we've missed? In the tablegen-generated file AMDILGenIntrinsics.inc, we have a bunch of if statements comparing strings, many of which are dead, preventing correct recognition of some intrinsics in the their text form. I'm not quite sure what GET_FUNCTION_RECOGNIZER is used for, but if it's

[LLVMdev] Tablegen bug???
If the source being scanned has "llvm.AMDIL.barrier.global, it will match the first barrier test and return AMDIL_barrier, not AMDIL_barrier_global. app_festival volume problems
I'm using app_festival to speak some text to callers. I'm having two problems with this. The first is with IAX calls (I've not tried others) the first few seconds of the speech is garbled. The second problem I'm having is the the volume of the speech IS VERY LOUD. I tried putting the following in the siteinit.scm but it didn't seem to make any difference. (set!

Remus blktap2 issue
Hello, I have been playing around with Remus on Xen 4.0.1, attempting to fail-over for an HVM domU. I''ve run into some problems that I think could be related to tapdisk2 and its interaction with how one sets up Remus disk replication in the domU config file. A few things I''ve noticed: -The tap:remus:backupHostIP:port|aio:imagePath notation does not work for me, although this

(lme4: lmer) mcmcsamp: Error in if (var(y) == 0)
I've got a problem with "mcmcsamp" used with glmer objects produced with "lmer" from the lme4 package. When calling mcmcsamp, I get the error Error in if (var(y) == 0) { : missing value where TRUE/FALSE needed This does not occur with all models, but I can't find anything wrong with the dataset. If the error is in my data, can someone tell me what I am looking
