klaR stepclass
Hi,
I'm trying to use "stepclass" to do a stepwise variable selection with
method=lda. I keep getting this warning message, which shows up once
for each variable added to the model during variable selection:
Warning message:
error(s) in modeling/prediction step in: cv.rate(vars = c(model,
tryvar), data = data, grouping = grouping,
I don't know how to interpret this warning. I

help with stepclass (klaR)
I use Windows, R version 2.5.1
When I try to run stepclass (klaR) I get an error message/warning saying:
1: error(s) in modeling/prediction step in: cv.rate(vars = c(model, tryvar),
data = data, grouping = grouping, ...
Actually, I look 16 warnings of this type. Can anyone tell me what this
means?
Also, it returns only 2 out of the 79 variables as important, however these

Getting runtime error in stepclass
Hi!
I got the following runtime error when I tried to use svm method with
stepclass.
Error in "colnames<-"(`*tmp*`, value = c("0", "1")) :
attempt to set colnames on object with less than two dimensions
I repeated the same sequence of statements but this time I used the
classification function used in the example, i.e., "lda" and it worked
fine

Discriminant analysis - stepwise procedure
Dear R users,
I have some environmental variables and I need to find the best combination
of them in order to separate two main groups (coded 1 and 2). I have
performed a discriminant analysis using the stepclass function as a method
for selecting the most relevant environmental variables.
The problem is that this function includes a parameter (start.vars) and my
results change a lot when I

"unvector" ?
Hi ev'rybody,
is there a way to pass a vector to a function
expecting separate arguments?
more specifically, I have a character vector, say u
and I want a single string, but
>paste(u)
doesn't work, so I would like something like
>paste(unvector(u)).
I am interested in a solution to the general problem too,
as the only one I found is maintaining two versions of the
functions I

censored counts and glmer/glmmADMB
dear R-users,
I have to model counts where all counts above some threshold
have been censored. In the same dataset I have too many zeroes for
a Poisson or even a negative binomial distribution to make
sense, so I would need a zero-inflated-censored negative binomial
family for use in glmer (or glmmADMB?). That seems not to exist.
my question is :
how could I add a custom-built family of

what is the difference between survival analysis and (...)
Hi everybody,
recently I had to teach a course on Cox model, of which I am
not a specialist, to an audience of medical epidemiologists.
Not a good idea you might say.. anyway, someone in the
audience was very hostile. At some point, he sayed that
Cox model was useless, since all you have to do is count
who dies and who survives, divide by the sample sizes
and compute a relative risk, and if there

Questions about use of multinomial for discrimination.
Dear All,
I am looking at discriminating among several individuals based on a few
variable sets (I think some variables do not make sense unless they are
entered together, so I "force" them into the models together, hence
datasets). I have done so with linear discriminant analysis (LDA) using
"MASS::lda", with acceptable results. However, one of my collaborators

regularized dfa rda (Klar): problems with predictions
Dear all, I am trying to do a n-fold cross-validation for a regularized discrimant function analysis using rda from the package klaR. However, I have problems to predict the groups from the test/validation sample. The exmaples of the R documantation and some online webpage also do not work. Does anybody know what I have done wrong?
Here my code

Question:shardsplot (package:klaR)
Dear all,
I have a question on the shardsplot package:klaR(see the below Example).
Plese tell me the meanings of " logstand <- t((t(logcount) / sdlogcount) *
c(1,2,6,5,5,3))", much more.
Why does this example use "c(1,2,6,5,5,3)" ?
Examples:
# Compute clusters and an Eight Directions Arranged Map for the
# country data. Plotting the result.

[klaR package] [NaiveBayes] warning message numerical 0 probability
Hi,
I run R 2.10.1 under ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) and klaR version 0.6-4.
I compute a model over a 2 classes dataset (composed of 700 examples).
To that aim, I use the function NaiveBayes provided in the package
klaR.
When I then use the prediction function : predict(my_model, new_data).
I get the following warning :

modifynig some elements of a vector
He everybody,
I want to add 1 to some elements of a vector:
x is a vector
u is a vector of idices, that is, integers
assumed to be within the range 1..length(x)
and I want to add 1 to the elements of x
each time their index appears in u
x[u]<-x[u]+1 works only when there are no
duplicated values in u
I found this solution:
tu <- table(u)
indices <- as.numeric(names(tu))
x[indices]

SORTING Arrays by index value
Hello, I'm somewhat new to R. I've searched the archive for the last year
and tried to consult the manual pages for the following problem, but did
not find an answer.
I want to sort an array by the index values. Here is the array

Combinatorial problem
I have been struggling trying to write some code to produce all
combinations subject to some restrictions. I thought someone might have
some bright ideas.
I have 11 values which fall into 5 groups. I want all combinations of
2,3, and 4 values where each value must be from a different group. The
numbers in the groups are different. Here is a definition of the groups:

plot.igraph
I am having trouble plotting one of my graphs (think graph theory graph with
edges and vertices, not scatterplots or histograms). For some pairs of
vertices, I want multiple edges to be visible in my graph. As an example of
this, in my script below, I want two edges to be visible from vertex 1 and
vertex 9 (among some others) yet when I plot it, only one edge is visible.
