Stepwise regression
I am using stepAIC for stepwise regression modeling.
Is there a way to change the entry and exit alpha levels for the
stepwise regression using stepAIC ?
Many thanks,

Spatial Statistics: surf.gls
In an experimental setup we obtain z-data samples at equidistant grid points.
The surf.gls (Kriging) algorithm produces an error under this circumstance when performing the Choleski decomposition.
A workaround is to dither the grid coordinates using (x <- rnorm(length(x)) ; y<- rnowm(length(y))).
Question: Is this an expected behaviour of the surf.gls function ?

accessing information in data.frame
After reading a data.frame using, such as a <- read.spss("data.sav")
I want to give the column index 'i', or a[i] to a function, which after
some calculation, should print out the results to the standard output.
I am struggling how to access the data itself, as e.g. sum(a[i]) does
not work in this context. In addition I need to know the name of the
variable within the

Hello!
I like to PXE boot the 'Dell 32 Bit Diagnostics' tool. I can create a

step function for glm()
Hi,
is there a possibility using the step() function together with a glm()
model, to force keeping some of the covariates in the model ?? and not
having them dropped ??
Thanks,

Statistical data and Map-package
Dear helpeRs,
I'm working with the map-package and came upon a problem which I
couldn't solve. I hope onee of you can. If not, this can be seen as a
suggestion for new versions of the package.
I'm trying to create a map of some European countries, filled with
colors corresponding to some values. Let's say I have the following
countries and I assign the following colors

Maps, Eastern Europe
Dear all,
I would like to employ a European map in a presentation. My idea was to
use:
library(mapdata)
map("worldHires", c("Austria", "Switzerland", "Germany"))
where I include all countries from my analysis as a vector of character
strings like in the example above. Unfortunately, I was unable to
specify the Baltic States (Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia) or

map question
Would anyone with experience with the map functions know how to divide
Czechoslovakia into the Czech Republic and Slovakia. They have been two
separate countries for some time now. I'm thinking about the worldhires
map database in particular.

How to draw a map of Europe?
Hi R users,
I need to draw a map of select European countries with country names shown
on the map. Does anyone know how to do this in R?
Also, is it possible to draw a historical map of European countries using R?
Thanks a lot for your help.

Has the support for these chipsets been added to yum

filled maps
Hi R-Help,
I would like to make filled contour maps of ocean data overlaid by
costlines from the map package.
I can draw the filled contours and the coastlines om the same plot, but
the filled contour also covers part of the land. To get rid of that I
tried to draw a filled coastline map on top of the filled contour, but
the filled map only draws the closed contours - so most of the land is
