rgl: How to position a window during open3d call
Dear all, The documentation on the function open3d in the rgl package, reads: open3d opens a new rgl device, and sets the parameters as requested. I want the new rgl device (window) to be sized and positioned in a specific place on my screen. So, I try to set the "windowRect" parameter as follows: > library("rgl") > open3d(windowRect=c(100,100,500,500))

rgl: axis/viewport/box problems in persp3d()
Dear expeRts, I am a new user of rgl, below is my first trial to plot a simple function in 3d. I managed to put the axes in the right locations, but: (1) The xlab, ylab, and zlab arguments are ignored; how can I put in axes labels? (2) Since I removed the axes in persp3d() the viewport is too small; is it possible to keep the size of the viewport? (3) The box is not correctly drawn, there

movie3d function in the rgl package
Dear list, I'm using the function "movie3d" in the package "rgl" to create a .gif animation of a 3d graphic. The program "ImageMagik" is working properly, R packages are working, basic examples available in the manual also working fine. Problem Solved: when I tried to create more complex movies, i.e. combining different views and zooming, the R-console crashed

overlaying points and lines on a surface3d rgl plot with axes
Hi R users and experts, I am interested in learning more about the use of 3D plots. Specifically, I want to add points and lines to a surface plot. And get the axes and labels plotted also. Here is what I have tried with an example data set : library(rgl) vol2 <- 2*volcano # Exaggerate the relief library(reshape) mvol2 <- melt(vol2) str(mvol2) # First, persp and persp3d plots do not succeed

Defining origin for rotation in RGL device
Hi all, How can I tell RGL to set the center for the rotation to the origin of the coordinate system (0,0,0). It seems that the default is to use the center of the display not the origin of the coordinate system. open3d() lines3d(c(0, 1), c(0,0), c(0,0)) lines3d(c(0,0), c(0, 1), c(0,0)) lines3d(c(0,0), c(0,0), c(0, 1)) TIA Mark ??????????????????????????????????????? rgl: coordinating and saving viewpoints, zoom, scale for multiple images
Context: I have two or more rgl-based views of a given data set, perhaps fitting different models, or showing different things across views. I want to be able to hand-rotate, zoom, scale one view to something I like, and then show the other views with matching viewpoints and scaling. so that one could flip back/forth among graphs and see only the relevant differences. In 2D, all this usually

rgl rotations
Is there a way to change the viewpoint using view3d (or rgl.viewpoint) with respect to the image that currently appears rather than the perspective that rgl thinks is the default? For example, if I create an image and then perform what should be a no-op: rgl.viewpoint(userMatrix=rotationMatrix(0,1,0,0)) the image is rotated. Then I can perform rotations on the result without surprises. But I

[RGL] Need help to modify current plot
Dear folks, I have created a plot on RGL device :   x = 1:6 y = seq(-12, 5, by=1) z = matrix(0, length(y), length(x)) z[13,3] = 1; z[13,4] = 1.011765 surface3d(x, y, t(z), col=rainbow(1000)) grid3d(c("x-", "y-", "z"))   Now I want to draw 2 lines along x=3 & x=4, over the surface (with different colour). Could somebody help me how to draw that?   Thanks,

How to chain user mouse handlers in rgl
Dear Rglers, With rgl, I would like to set marker when a button is pressed, but leave the standard trackball handling otherwise. Thanks to Duncan and Oleg for helping me handling key down. How do I say in a custom mouse handler "after having done your work, forward to standard trackball once only"? The example below shows the idea, but it works only once, then reverts to standard

Rgl and plotmath symbols (via sprites): a trial
Dear all, Below is some code where I try to get plotmath symbols in an rgl plot. Duncan Murdoch kindly suggested to use a "sprite" for this. As you can see, on can get it to work, but my knowledge about grid and rgl is too limited to perfectly solve the problem. 1) As you can see (please rotate the plot a little bit so that (0,0,0) is "in front"), the quality of the .png

ImageMagick not seen by movie3d function from rgl package
Hello R-users, I have downloaded and installed a binary version for Windows OS of ImageMagick (ImageMagick6.5.6-10-q16-windows-dll.exe), I have installed the rgl package and i've tried running the following example from ?movie3d() library(rgl) open3d() plot3d( cube3d(col="green") ) M <- par3d("userMatrix") play3d( par3dinterp( userMatrix=list(M,

Saving surface3d Output
Hello, Please could someone advise if it's possible to save the graphical output from the surface3d() function? I have tried the dev.copy() function to save as a pdf but an error message says I cannot copy from the null device. surface3d grid from xyz dataframe
Hi List, I am trying to plot a grid with an overlayed height. I have a dataframe with four variables: x,y,gridvalue,height. The dataframe has 2.5mio observations (ie grid points), I assign colors through the gridvalue using map_color_gradient thus producing: x,y,gridvalue,height,gridcol as variables of the dataframe. The grid dimensions are 1253 x 2001 (=2507253 data points). My attempts with

movie3d in rgl object 'movie' not found
Hello, I am trying to save a .gif movie using movie3d from the package {rgl}. I am using the following code combined with the globe example on the ?movie3d page. I've installed ImageMagick and the directory seems to be working properly, i.e. when I do Sys.getenv("PATH"), C:\\Program Files (x86)\\ImageMagick-6.7.0-Q16 shows up. #### library(rgl) open3d() lat <-

3d polar coordinates in rgl function view3d()
Dear all: I'm enjoying using rgl and I want to set a specific viewpoint. I understand that view3d() will do so by setting the 3d polar coordinate angles, theta and phi. In standard polar coordinates, theta is the angle away from the X axis in the X-Y plane and phi (inclination angle) is the angle between the Z axis and the radius vector It appears that when you use view3d() theta is

Can a dynamic graphic produced by rgl be saved?
Dear r-helpers, Can one save a dynamic graphic produced by rgl, e.g.: open3d(); x <- sort(rnorm(1000)); y <- rnorm(1000); z <- rnorm(1000) + atan2(x,y); plot3d(x, y, z, col=rainbow(1000), size=2) as a dynamic figure that can be embedded in a pdf? _____________________________ Professor Michael Kubovy University of Virginia Department of Psychology USPS: P.O.Box 400400

question on rgl.surface
I'd like to use rgl.surface (or some other function if more appropriate) to create a horizontal and vertical transparent grey slice (plane) running through both the x and y origins and extending across the z axis, i.e. the 3-d equivalent of the normal 2-d coordinate axes we are all familiar with. The examples for rgl.surface are a bit more complex than what I need and I am having trouble

rgl: cylinder3d() with elliptical cross-section
For a paper dealing with generalized ellipsoids, I want to illustrate in 3D an ellipsoid that is unbounded in one dimension, having the shape of an infinite cylinder along, say, z, but whose cross-section in (x,y) is an ellipse, say, given by the 2x2 matrix cov(x,y). I've looked at rgl:::cylinder3d, but don't see any way to make it accomplish this. Does anyone have any ideas? thx,

windows limits
Hello, Using the rgl package, I can set the device window to any dimension (that I have tested): par3d(windowRect=c(1,1,700,700)) With windows I can't get the window to span from the top to the bottom of the monitor. In the following, no matter how large the ypinch value gets it stops, leaving about 2 inches of space at the bottom of my screen: windows(record=TRUE, ypinch=1100, xpinch=10,
