Allowing RIP broadcasts?
This is kind of an odd request so I''ve got the asbestos undies on. I have a client who currently has a layer 3 switch plugged into a cisco pix. Routing is handled via RIP and now the client wants to insert a linux box running shorewall behind the PIX and in front of the switch to act as a content filter+backup firewall. The immediate problem I forsee happening is that RIP broadcasts to

does wine honor smb files
Putting on my asbestos flame suit ;) All of my windows programs are on another pc and are only available over the network via smb (samba). The "C" drive is mounted in fstab like this: //p500/c /p500-c smbfs guest,rw Can the wine.config file be modified to point to the appropriate windows directories on the other system? defining a formula method for a weighted lm()
In the vcdExtra package on R-Forge, I have functions and generic methods for calculating log odds ratios for R x C x strata tables. I'd like to define methods for fitting weighted lm()s to the resulting loddsratio objects, but I'm having problems figuring out how to do this generally. # install.packages("vcdExtra", repos="http://R-Forge.R-Project.org")

Please help a struggling student with data set-up for
Hi, I agree with Ista that you need the second option. So long as you don't want to look at interactions between condition and item it shouldn't be a problem that you don't have the same items in each condition. However, it may be difficult to find a main effect of condition that couldn't also be attributed to items within that condition. So long as this isn't an issue for

Please help a struggling student with data set-up for lmer crossed random effects
Hi all, I am just starting my first models in R and am having trouble with some of the basics. The main things at the moment are about setting up my data correctly. I have a repeated measures design-all participants complete 4 experimental conditions. I want to fit a linear mixed effects model with crossed random effects for subject and item. I have 4 conditions, 6 items per condition. Because

I've been googling, but haven't come up with a satisfactory answer to the question of how I permanently turn off wifi on a workstation or server (which are *all* hardwired). I see I can turn wifi off... but I don't know that it's permanent. mark

Hi all; I'm trying to display a 2 panel plot for the Puromycin data from R with 2 different non-linear models fitted to each group. GPFS and Windows file attributes
I was reviewing the GPFS VFS module this afternoon after I had a request to add Thumbs.db to the hide files option. Now I was under the impression that the GPFS VFS module mapped this through to the Windows attributes on the under lying file system. That is assuming that your GPFS file system is sufficiently recent to support Windows attributes. I did some experimentations with a Terminal

There are two parameters "nis homedir" and "homedir map" that seem locked to NIS although it would be extremely nice it they just worked in conjunction with automount/autofs

Logon scripts in Windows 2000
I am certain this is a stupid question, but I have been reading books and searching Google for the answer and have come up blank. Are domain logins required for login scripts to work or will they work in workgroup mode as well? Thanks in advance and I have my asbestos underwear in case the question is really stupid

Is g.711 supported for transcoding in *?
Okay this may be a very noobie question, but I've looked around the WIKI and haven't found anything about this. I was looking at some VO-IP phones, an they list one of the codecs as g.711, this isn't listed on the * page I was looking at, is this also known as another name, or is it not supported by *?
