Dear R users, I'd like to create a block diagonal matrix with each rows in a matrix. Here is a simple example. (In fact, the matrix is big) x <- matrix(1:20, 4,5) > x [,1] [,2] [,3] [,4] [,5] [1,] 1 5 9 13 17 [2,] 2 6 10 14 18 [3,] 3 7 11 15 19 [4,] 4 8 12 16 20 With each rows in matrix x, I'd like to make the matrix below.

I expected this script to show nine panels, each with a plot of the function. But when I run it, only the diagonal panels have content. Executing > print(trel_1) shows what I expected in the upper left corner. I am using R ver. 2.11.0 and lattice ver. 0.18-8 on Windows XP under Eclipse and StatET. I create each matrix V.i in a for loop (1 to J), so each time I'd like to augment V with the most recently calculated V.i, such that I'll have V after the final iteration of the for loop.
