Sparseby Problems
I've got a problem with the sparseby command (reshape library), and I have
reached the peak of my R knowledge (it isn't really that high).
I have a small data frame of 23 rows and 15 columns, here is a subset, the
first four columns are factors and the rest are numeric (only one, line54 is
provided).

Non-convergence error for GLMM with LME4?
Hello! I am trying to run a GLMM using LME4, and keep getting the warning message: "In mer_finalize(ans) : false convergence (8)" I am quite new to R, and in looking into this thus far, it appears that there are a variety of reasons why this might occur, such as needing to standardize some parameters or if all subjects in one combination of parameters all have the same outcome. I also

Normalizing grouped data in a data frame
Hi
I am a newbie to R but have tried a number of ways in R to do this and
can't find a good solution. (I could do it out of R in perl or awk but
would like to know how to do this in R).
I have a large data frame 49 variables and 7000 observations however for
simplicity I can express it in the following data frame
Base, Image, LVEF, ES_Time
A, 1, 4.32, 0.89
A, 2, 4.98, 0.67
A, 3, 3.7, 0.5

equivalent of Stata "by construct"
I am evaluating a switch from Stata to R. I don't need to extensive Statistical methods, but the main reason I am exploring the switch is the coding flexibility in R (e.g. Stata does not support linear/quadratic programming). I have been going over the R syntax and I had a quick question:
In Stata, one has a very useful construction called "by", e.g.
by month signal: gen xxx =

host_with_port in config/environment.rb
Hello everyone... i''m Italian, sorry for my poor English, but I find
myself in difficulties with this method.I don''t need to redirect the
logout of rubycas in a host other than localhost... when the decoy in
"config/environment.rb" of course tells me ''method ''host_with_port''
undefined''... I looked in the folder of ruby and i saw that

Equivalent to a BY command in SAS
Hi,
I'm very new to R and absolutely love it. Does anyone know how to use
something in R that functions like a BY command in SAS?
For example, let's say you have a variable x, and you want to see the mean.
Easy...
> mean(x)
But what if you want to see the mean of x conditional on another discrete
variable? My best attempts so far are something like...
> mean(x, y_cat=1)

How to quickly convert a data.frame into a structure of lists
Hello,
This is my first project in R, so I'm trying to work 'the R way', but it
still feels awkward sometimes.
The problem that I'm facing right now is that I need to convert a data.frame
into a structure of lists. The data.frame has columns in the order of tens
(I need to focus on only three of them) and rows in the order of millions.
So it's quite a big dataset.
Let say
