Value Lookup from File without Slurping
Dear all,
I have a repository file (let's call it repo.txt)
that contain two columns like this:
# tag value
AAA 0.2
AAT 0.3
AAC 0.02
AAG 0.02
ATA 0.3
ATT 0.7
Given another query vector
> qr <- c("AAC", "ATT")
I would like to find the corresponding value for each query above,
yielding:
0.02
0.7
However, I want to avoid slurping whole repo.txt

gsub difficulty
Greetings R-ians:
I know what doesn?t work but I don?t know why, nor how to remedy things.
I have a character string containing "." which I want to replace with " "
gsub(".", " ", file.label) replaces the every character with a blank.
However gsub(".xls", " ", file.label) replaces ".xls" with a blank as
expected.
It appears

help with my sloppy syntax
R-ians:
After some effort I coerced my code to do what I want but my syntax is a
kludge. Suggestions on more elegant syntax?
par <- NIM.results$par
do.call("Draw.NIM.POD.curve", list(par[1], par[2], par[3], par[4],
par[5], a.hat.decision, .... et cetera ...
It seems that I should be able to avoid defining the variable "par" and then
specifying each of its elements,

Can't Destroy Dim Names
Dear all,
I have the following matrix:

Named chr [1:32268] "yQAAA" "jQAAQ" "UQAAg" "FQAAw" "1QABA" ...
- attr(*, "names")= chr [1:32268] "CAAAAAAAAA" "CAAAAAAAAC"
"CAAAAAAAAG" "CAAAAAAAAT" ...
I want to destroy the attribute yielding only this:

control L to clear the Rgui screen in Windows
Greetings R-ians:
Searching the Searchable Mail Archives I discovered that ctrl L will clear
the Rgui screen, which is what I'd like to do from a print (or some similar)
statement.
Is there a mechanism to use the ctrl L clear-screen sequence in a script, or
print statement?
Thanks for your counsel.

Data.matrix fail to convert data.frame into matrix
Hi,
With the following codes, I attempt to convert
the data.frame into a matrix.
However I notice that data.matrix function doesn't
seem to work.
__ BEGIN__
dat <- read.table("mydata", comment.char = "!" , na.strings = "null");
# Select n-genes by random sample
# n = 1
nosamp <- 1
geneid <- sequence(nrow(dat))
geneid.samp <- sample(geneid,nosamp)

Which R version created a package?
Greetings, R-ians:
I would like to know which version or R was used to create a given package.
I think I remember seeing that topic discussed recently but cannot find it
among my notes. Can anyone tell me how to determine which version of R
created a package?
Thanks.

Measuring Goodness of a Matrix
Hi all,
Suppose I have 2 matrices A and B.
And I want to measure how good each of this matrix is.
So I intend to compare A and B with another "gold standard"
matrix X. Meaning the more similar a matrix to X the better it is.
What is the common way in R to
measure matrix similarity (ie. A vs X, and B vs X) ?

plotting partial deriviatives
Dear R Helpers:
I am trying to annotate a plot. The following code snippet works, but it is
kind of a kludge since it adds the partial derivative symbols after creating
the plotmath frac(). Is there a more elegant way to write a partial
derivative?

Plot Mixtures of Synthetically Generated Gamma Distributions
Hi,
I have the following vector
which is created from 3 distinct distribution (three components) of gamma:
x=c(rgamma(30,shape=.2,scale=14),rgamma(30,shape=12,scale=10),rgamma(30,shape=5,scale=6))
I want to plot the density curve of X, in a way that it shows
a distinct 3 curves that represent each component.
How can I do that?
I tried this but doesn't work:

trouble with character \u00e2
Greetings R-wizards:
For historical reasons I have filenames with the character "?" and have
successfully used "\u00e2" in its place, with the hoped-for result on all my

However since R2.7.0 I have trouble with savePlot() when the file name
includes that character as it does in this example:

Grouping Index of Matrix Based on Certain Condition
Hi,
I have the following (M x N) matrix, where M = 10 and N =2
What I intend to do is to group index of (M) based on this condition

For each M,
If x_m1 > x_m2, assign index of M to Group1
otherwise assign index of M into Group 2

Conditional Splitting a Vectors into Two Vectors
Suppose I have two vectors of same dimensions:
x <-c(0.49534,0.80796,0.93970,0.99998)
count <-c(0,33,0,4)
How can I group the vectors 'x' into two vectors:
1. Vector `grzero` that contain value in x with `count` value greater
than 0 and
2. Vector `eqzero` with value in x with `count` value equal to zero.
