Using a string as a variable name - revisited
I would like to revisit a problem that was discussed previously (see quoted discussion below). I am trying to do the same thing, using a string to indicate a column with the same name. I am making "foo" a string taken from a list of names. It matches the row where "item" = 5, and picks the corresponding "taxon" > foo <- list$taxon[match(5,list$item)] Let's

combining data frames in a list - how do I add breaks?
I'm a week-old R user, and have become stuck trying to create usable CSV outputs for post-processing. I am using the package Rioja, which provides small datasets of results. I am running several analyses in a loop and iteratively adding the results to a *list* ("combined"). Within each iteration I use the following: > combined[[i]] <- performance(fit) With two iterations I

Problems with labels and scaling in star diagrams

remove a row from a dataframe, row names disappear
I find this odd because it doesn't appear to happen in larger datasets. I have the following data set ENV with the first column set as row.names: > ENV TPlog 001S29H 0.601 002S42H 0.602 003S43S 0.779 004S43S 0.702 005S51H 0.978 006S52P 2.718 If I apply > ENV <- ENV[-1,] # remove first row of data (right?) ...ENV comes back as: [1] 0.602 0.779 0.702 0.978 2.718 So I

FW: Drawing maps of UK
Hi Guys Thanks for this! As I am a beginner, I bet I'm running into some really basic problems. Using the example from the Map2poly function in maptools: try <- read.shape("euadmll.shp") mappolys <- Map2poly(try) # this produces 14 warnings() of the type: # 1: level 2 circularity at 62 in: .mtlbuild(.mtafters(r1), rD) # etc # 14: From next release, default hole handling

Re: using shapefile as owin
My sincerest apologies, as this is a very elementary problem, but I have searched through archives and FAQs and on the web, and I am at the end of my own resources. I need to do analysis of a spatial point process occuring with four counties, using spatstat. I've had no trouble importing the shapefiles, but I can't seem to figure out what I need to do in order to use the boundary as an

from long/lat to UTM
Hi: Is there any function in R which can convert the long/lat to UTM(Universal Transverse Mercator)? There are quite a few converters on Internet. However, the interface is designed as input->output which I can not convert lots of locations at the same time. Another question is whether there is a function in R which can tell the time zone from the location's lat/long? Thank you!

Best practice for full stystem backup - equivelent of ufsdump/ufsrestore
I''m looking for a way to backup my entire system, the rpool zfs pool to an external HDD so that it can be recovered in full if the internal HDD fails. Previously with Solaris 10 using UFS I would use ufsdump and ufsrestore, which worked so well, I was very confident with it. Now ZFS doesn''t have an exact replacement of this so I need to find a best practice to replace it.

Dear All, In the moment i'm using the map and maptools package to read shapefiles and display the maps. I'm looking for the possibility to draw points (randomly positioned or positioned according to a grid) into the polygons instead of filling the polygons with colors. For example: a map (shapefile) with 10 countries, 15 points in the polygon of country A, 20 points in the

[PATCH net] virtio_net: fix truesize for mergeable buffers
Seth Forshee noticed a performance degradation with some workloads. This turns out to be due to packet drops. Euan Kemp noticed that this is because we drop all packets where length exceeds the truesize, but for some packets we add in extra memory without updating the truesize. This in turn was kept around unchanged from ab7db91705e95 ("virtio-net: auto-tune mergeable rx buffer size for

Colouring areas on a map with updated maptools functions
Hi - I'm trying to plot a map from a shapefile and then colour different areas of it depending on different attributes of those areas. A couple of years ago I used some code to do this that would plot a map in R from a shapefile (states within a country). It then uploaded a .txt file which had the same number of rows as the shapefile and one column populated with numbers from 1 to 8 which
