proposal TipsAndTricks/EditorDefaultNano
On my systems, I set nano to be the default editor. Is this something that can be done with some sort of configuration script? I don't find anything like system-switch-mail for editors. I do it in my kickstart files, but it can easily be done from a command line. Since nano is only useful to people using the command line, I think it completely appropriate... Is a document describing

nano-setup with fixed routes.
Hi everyone, I have a linux-box connected to an internal LAN and two ADSL-connections. I am using the nano.txt setup with patches applied, and everything is working fine. My problem is that I want to route traffic to some specific hosts (DNS and mail-servers) to a specific ADSL-line. I have tried to add the following ip route add 195.82.195.0/24 dev eth0 src 83.72.197.108 proto static table

Trying the configuration in nano.txt
Hi! (I sent other mails some time ago, about not-using the Julian''s patches). When I try the configuration from Nano.txt, having the Julian''s patches applied, only the first ''hop'' of the routing table "222" is used (according to tables shown in Nano.txt). I saw that this question was asked some time ago, with no answer. Maybe someone can tell me the

iproute2/nano-howto: dual external routing, a "virtual subnet"
A site I administer has dual T1''s. We have this set up according to NANO-HOWTO[1] using Julian''s routes patch on a late model 2.4 kernel. All is well, has been working well for a long time. Recently one of our T1 providers went belly up and we got something better. Now we have a /28 where previously we only used one IP per interface. Present interfaces: eth0 - T1#1, single

Sessionbased traffic on NANO?
I use the wellknown nano setup (by Christoph Simon) on a few sites with success. From time to time a user approaches me with problems that seems to originate from the fact that only trafic to the samt DST IP on the net will get out the same link. The problem happens with traffic from applications that contact different IPs in the "same session". An example is Anarchy Online, where

Problems with ICQ etc. on nano-setup
I administer a nano-setup on a dorm-network with a couple of hundred active users. The setup uses 2 x 2 2Mb/s DSLs, meaning two DSLs from each of two different ISPs. It works fine except for some minor glitches: https-sites often kicks users. This was solved by tying outbound https to a single DSL. Not the best solution but it works so far that users dont kicked from the sites anymore. Now

pesky \usage-warnings with R CMD check
I?m in the process of preparing a package for CRAN. The package is called ?exportR? and since it really just consists of one function, I found it natural to call it ?exportR? too. The function returns a function that does the actual job, but it is set up to work in different ways, depending on the arguments given to its creator. In short: library( exportR ) exporter <- exportR( the, arguments

Quicktime 2 Theora Transcoder's Nano-Howto
After a bunch of cumbersome testing I was able to transcode a Quicktime MOV file to OGG with theora and Vorbis. The method's a bit fumbly, but it works... It is automatable except for the initial audio decoding. Software used: Xine, oggenc, ffmpeg, ffmpeg2theora, oggzmerge Step 1: Get the video out of Quicktime ffmpeg -i infile.mov -b 5000 -f mpeg2video outfile.mpg Step 2: Get the video

Via Nano X2 Support?
Hi! Recently got a Via VE-900 board from Fry''s. It has a via nano x2 chip on it, and suggests that it has Intel-compatible virtualization extensions. Has anyone worked with this board yet? I thought it would be nice to have a lower-powered, nearly silent Xen machine sitting on my desk. I tried booting into Xen, but it said it didn''t recognize the processor. I can post

Fwd: cgroup OOM killer loop causes system to lockup (possible fix included)
Hi all, Please find below a complete transcript of the emails between debian/kernel-mm mailing lists. I've had a response back from someone on the deb mailing list stating: ==================================== The bug seems to be that sshd does not reset the OOM adjustment before running the login shell (or other program). Therefore, please report a bug against openssh-server.

computing var-covar matrix with much missing data
Is there an R function for computing a variance-covariance matrix that guarantees that it will have no negative eigenvalues? In my case, there is a *lot* of missing data, especially for a subset of variables. I think my tactic will be to compute cor(x, use="pairwise.complete.obs") and then pre- and post-multiply by a diagonal matrix of standard deviations that were computed based

writing R shell scripts?
I'm new to the list. I've used R and S-PLUS a bit for about 15 years but am now working to make R my main program for all numerical and statistical computing. I also use Octave for this kind of work and I recommend it (it is also under the GPL). Here's my question: In Octave I can write shell scripts in the Linux/UNIX environment that begin with a line like this...

AAF and DRb with highlighting
How would I change this method in order to get highlighting working with DRb? I''ve given up on searching on Google, I''m getting no results that are actually helpful. def self.find_storage_by_contents(query, options = {}) # Get the index that acts_as_ferret created for us index = self.aaf_index.ferret_index results = [] default_options = {:limit => 10,
