Samba 2.2 vs. 3: Domain Member & Winbind quick question
I have a Samba 2.2 box set up as a member server in a Windows domain. Any random Windows domain user can connect and a local Linux system account is created on the fly, as it should. I am trying to do the same on another box with Samba 3. However, when I connect from a Windows domain member, I get prompted for credentials. If I enter domain\username and my password, I connect and a local Linux

Keychain Patch Try II
Sorry; here's the message I sent with the Keychain Patch yesterday. I didn't realize that the list wouldn't extract the text parts of the message. Enjoy. Hey all, Here's the patch to let SSH store passwords in the Mac OS X Keychain. I don't know whether you guys want to include it or not with the distribution; some people have said that since Keychain is not an open

Thanks to Marc and Ingimar for their suggestions, I think we've cracked it. When Keychain runs it prompts the user for their private key password then stores the

Mac OS X Keychain Support
Hello, I'm a Mac OS X user, and I got tired of typing my password every time I want to login, but didn't want to use ssh-agent and the like. So, I grabbed the code for OpenSSH 3.7p1, and made some modifications which allow passwords to be stored and recalled from the OS X Keychain. The reason I'm posting to this list is that I'd like to make these modifications available to

flood of (auth in progress) connections from unresponsive windows client crashing samba
We have been experiencing a debilitating 'bug' in samba where something is causing a flood of the messages seen below in smbstatus and the network drives ( in our case N: ) on all clients become unresponsive. In fact, the entire client becomes unresponsive, essentially making them unusable until samba is restarted. We first saw this and connected it to the following open bug in samba

keychain problem
hello centos.. I am having a very annoying problem on my network right now. it looks like every time I try to add my ssh key to keychain I have to issue a command just to get my ssh subsystem communicating with the ssh-agent: I have this line in my .bashrc file $(keychain --eval --quick --quiet private_key1 private_key2 private_key3) If I try to perform ssh-add I get the message: [bluethundr

trouble installing Math::BigInt module
I had to move a perl script from an old server to a new one. Both the old and new servers are running "CentOS release 5.10 (Final)" and perl v5.8.8. (But the problem I'm running into appears to be a package management problem and not a Perl problem which is why I'm posting it to a CentOS list.) The line of code in the script that attempts to open a Net::SFTP connection,

flood of (auth in progress) connections from unresponsive windows client crashing samba
Unfortunately I do not have the ability to add the user/group information to AD directly at this time. Does anyone know exactly what the following error message "means"? It shows up every time these symptoms occur, and if I could understand why the lookup fails, I might be able to prevent the issue. "lookup_name_smbconf for CLIENTHOSTNAME$ failed"

folding Apple tweaks into openssh
Hi. Apple have a bunch of patches to openssh that they have folded into the version that's shipped with MacOSX. Some of these are very convenient: like automagically starting an ssh-agent at login/boot time and the ability to have SSH passphrases stored and fetched from the Keychain. It would be nice if these could be considered for rolling in to a future release of openssh. FWIW

openssh-unix-dev Digest, Vol 8, Issue 15
I think what Mr. Farr is referring to is keychain support. Keychain is provided as part of OS X. Apple published an API for it. An OS X compile would store and retrieve keys from Keychain in lieu/addition to the SSH Agent. Keychain is to OS-X what the ssh-agent is to ssh. This makes perfect sense, and I haven't been sufficiently peeved to do this yet, but I have dreamt of this myself. It

Problems with Apple Mail: Enter Password for Account "..."
Hello I have on Ubuntu 12.04 a postfix 2.9.3-2 mailserver with dovecot 2.0.19 I get email from my pc (thunderbird), my smartphone (k9mail) and my MacBook (Apple Mail 4.6 - 1085 on Mac OS 10.6.8) all with IMAP and SSL. All is working normally but sometimes I get an error message from my MacBook, which is irritating. It says this (more or less): "Enter Password for Account "..."

Apple's SSH x OpenSSH (brew) x CTK x Security Key types
Hi, What I was trying to do (apart from toying with stuff) was to get a realiable, single, portable/importable credential that would be universally available whenever I need it but in normal operation would be either stored in or wrapped by Secure Enclave (this means EC keys), instead of provisioning 5 resident FIDO keys, one Secretive SE-wrapper key and a backup key. (I know, I could use

Change in behaviour for the "%U" substitution in 4.10.8?
Hi knowledgable Samba folks, I have a Samba server (Ubuntu 18.04, with the packages from apt.van-belle.nl so that I can run recent versions of Samba with Time Machine). This box is configured to use Active Directory authentication as a domain member. Happy to share relevant parts of configuration if necessary, feel free to just ask. I have two shares that are configured to use %U username

Source keychain credentials in Perl?
Keychain is quite a useful tool for automating SSH logins without having to use password-less keys: http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/keychain/ Normally it is used like this to set the SSH_AUTH_SOC and SSH_AGENT_PID variables: source ~/.keychain/hostname-sh (This is what's in hostname-sh) SSH_AUTH_SOCK=/tmp/ssh-XXn47DUn/agent.16721; export SSH_AUTH_SOCK; SSH_AGENT_PID=16722; export
